For the record

For those of you who want Apple to adopt Blu-ray, I don't think it's ever going to happen. Everything is going to online streaming. Apple can charge a higher margin by denying you Blu-ray. Get used to it...

Finally !!!!! :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

I'm happy , slight bump in battery life , updated processors ...

gonna get my 15" finally , feel for those who were waiting for the 13" though...

Aussie prices down $200 :D

$1999 Macbook Pro

Hate to sound like a broken record but anyone reading MacRumors would know that the $1999 Macbook Pro is a joke unless you really don't want to mess with doing anything yourself. $200 extra to get a negligible increase in MHz and 180GB hard disk space? For ~$200 you can get a 1TB drive from MacSales for it!

Agreed, but this is Apple.

I am surprised there are SO MANY people

NOT READING THE SPECS!

There is no i3 or i5 in the 13" Macbook Pros, and there is NO i7 in the 17" model.

People have been waiting so long that they aren't even bother reading the specs before they are buying.

I just did a BTO for the i7 in the 17" model. FYI.

Sh*t! I thought I was gonna be the first one to reply. Other than that, and in regards to the update, I respect the almost-price match for Canadians... We're still paying $50 CAD more than Americans!!!

Did you consider taxes? Canadian prices are inclusive of taxes, US prices are exclusive of taxes.

I knew I should have sold my macbook last week :( Oh well it will be hitting ebay today maybe

No it was not.

Yes it was!

£80 Extra for a non-glass covered screen
£150 Extra on base model
£20 Extra on £500 GB 7200 HD

Very Very disappointed with this.

With Applecare as a necessity (After 2 year old MBP C2D motherboard went, following its Faulty HD, RAM, SD and Battery replacements) the cheapest way for me to get a 15" Mac Laptop with a Matt Screen is to spend £1900! (That's $3000 US folks) :(

Not being a troll as I am a long time mac user got to say I am disappointed that the 13inchers have remained almost the same cpu wise.

Glad I got a 13" vaio Z to keep me going till a proper refresh comes out.

15" mid end looks pretty good and finally a high-res display option!

Why oh why oh why oh why would you want a 1080p display on a 13-inch screen?

I never said I did. I just said that I was not unrealistic of me to expect a 1080p display on a 15" MBP when Sony is putting a 1080p display in their 13" Vaio Z.

About Time

This a very welcome update with overall improvements. But 256mb video memory on the low and mid range 15"??? Seriously?? 512mb should be standard with 1gb option.

Since the MacBook Pro 13" has been changed (better battery life), I guess that means there won't be a 13" MBP with i5 or i7 processor for a while.

I wouldn't be concerned given that the difference between Core 2 and the i5 or i3 (I doubt you'll see the i7 in a 13.3 inch form factor) is marginal at best - I've compared what I have to the refresh and its of only of great improvement if you haven't upgraded in a couple of years otherwise you're better off sticking to what you have and waiting until next year which should hopefully result in the massive change.

From what I understand we're on the minor release of the Intel CPU's and the next release will include major improvements so unless you really need to upgrade you might as well wait till then :D

Wow. What a disappointment. Nothing at the smaller/lighter end of the spectrum of note. Airs unchanged? 13" left behind with C2D's? Wow.

It implies the direction in which Apple is headed. ;)

Agreed! I am very glad to see that the 17" didn't get a price increase and that it still has an express card slot.

Enjoy the update while you can folks, it'll be another year before we see anything new in the MBP front. It'll be two iPad updates, an iPhone update and a Mac Pro update before then. There are only five people working on Mac OS 10.7 right now, so we may not even see an update for that any time soon.

Seems that everyone who waited for a marginal improvement in the processor is disappointed, even though it shouldn't be a surprise.

It's a life cycle bump in hardware. Exactly what was expected.

or maybe you should just read ANY article about screen resolution. manufacturers of televisions DON'T make 15" tvs in 1080p for this very reason. Good luck going to a brick and mortar retailer and finding any selection of 15" 1080p tvs.

oh, and ps. im in my upper 20s, grandpa.

AND im isf certified. do a little research on that, then ill let you sit at the big kids table to talk.

To weigh in... for television or motion video content, perhaps the higher resolution is indistinguishable. But if a screen shows a line 1px thick on a black background, you'd be able to detect it... after all this is a laptop computer, not just a video player.

and... back on the update - I'm disappointed, but since I'm in the market for a new Mac Pro, it's mainly because I'm now apprehensive as to what's in store there - particularly as I'm be paying in sterling...

Third party sellers

Anybody know when third party retailers get these? Like Best Buy or Amazon. Have some giftcards from Amazon and would like to purchase from there.

Dj

If you are a DJ, which macbook would you choose? Why?

I am a DJ, when I upgrade I'll go with a 15" i7 because you're never going to upgrade your processor, and a high res screen. All DJ software runs fine on my 2006 C2D MBP though so it shouldn't matter too much what you get. Things to consider when using a computer for DJing, bigger computer means greater surface area to knock over and spill drinks on. Smaller computer means more difficult to read song names if computer is placed far away from turntables, CDJs, or midi equip.
