I would tell you to review the iPad forum but I have a feeling that message would be lost on somebody so insistent on keeping their head in the sand.

Seriously? You do understand that that is a small sample of folks. Most of whom choose to gripe and moan and not to do things like return it.
Even if there are 1000 unique units covered there th full sales at this point are likely one million plus making them a tiny fraction of users. Even if you generously say they are one tenth of the folks with problems that isn't a sizable cut to the tune of every unit, virtually or not

I can't believe that Nobody has mentioned that in the ad, the person zoomed in on a video. That is a feture that is very much needed

I only talked to the guy for about one minute and was told that Apple was looking into this so I am guessing that more than 10 people have an issue.

They look into everything for all new products, standard practice. That's why they encourage folks to return 'bad' units those first few weeks. They call it Early Field Failure Analysis

so basically they are telling us the only difference is that it is faster lighter and thinner and we should buy a new one for that. O ya we got a back camera that is useless to 99% of us and a front for facetime which again almost no one uses.

It is very obvious when someone has no idea what they are talking about, and just making up false information.

have one but that commercial makes me want to puke. Once you use one and realize it's limitations, it's not so magical. It's a fun consumption device which you can get some work done on, but without real multitasking, it's lack of real technology actually hinders and isn't so magical.

I think what you don't realize is that for people who love the iPad either:
a) They don't need something more powerful, or
b) They have other devices (laptops, pcs) that do what other things they want to do.

I fit in camp B. I use my iPad for web surfing, reading, sharing pictures, while listening to Pandora. Could I use my laptop for this? Sure I could - Yes. But I enjoy using my iPad for these types of tasks. It's more comfortable using for these tasks, and more enjoyable.

Think about this for a second. Why do you have a toaster? Can't you toast bread in your oven by putting it on broil? A toaster has so few features compared to an oven. What's the use of a toaster? This points out the reasons for an iPad. My 'toaster' isn't my only cooking device in my house, but it complements my stove, just like my iPad complements my laptop.

nice - short and sweet commericial - wish my corporate company would use ipad2 and iphone4 - their stupid excuse for years is blackberry is more enterprise secure - yeah so so f---in boring - aapl rules over rimm

This edition will be forever known as the light bleed model. Mine has it, only slightly annoying. But it certainly knocks down the resale value, almost forcing me to consider exchanging it. Also slightly annoying.

Obviously this is just a figment of your imagination :D After all, people like that one guy here who claims to have seen 14 iPads say that this problem does not exist.

So, quit seeing what is not there and enjoy your iPad. (facetiousness intended)

I love Apple but these Apple apologists are quite entertaining.

Since so many of the units purchased in the last two weeks are destined for resale overseas (read the Asian scalper threads) have not even made it into the hands of the end-user, you have no idea how many will be returned.

No need to thank me for pointing out the obvious to you and your fellow apologists.

Apparently "virtually every" doesn't mean what you think it means.

Those who don't see the light bleed are simply in denial. It is a known problem affecting this version of the iPad. If you took a few minutes to read the iPad forum, you'd know that.

I love your analogy, I'm going to use it all the time now!

The book being read in iBooks is Kook: What Surfing Taught Me About Love, Life, and Catching the Perfect Wave, by Peter Heller.

Virtually every unit huh.

Well I have seen tons of postings all over about 'I got the new ipad' with no mention of said problems.

I bought one opening weekend for home use and one last week for work with nada. All nine of the cast on my current gig have problem less iPad 2s, plus the office has gotten close to 100 units all with no issues.

Perhaps by 'virtually every' you mean 'not even one percent of what has been sold' because that is probably the real number

Every unit I've seen (admittedly only 3 friends but every one in the store) has had it. You won't notice it under bright lights... hence the "none of my office co-workers have it" or "nobody in band class" replies but if you ever watch any movies on it and have the black bars you WILL notice it. Any dark backdrop from any game or wallpaper will show it.

I've seen some with very little and some with a horrible amount of bleeding.

Best thing would be to go to the "using your iPad" forum here and see the dozen's of pics that fully show the problem.

If yours doesn't look like this or if you never have a dark pic or app on it... great!

But don't claim the issue doesn't exist... Apple's own forum has a monster thread about it and the thread here at MacRumors is HUGE :(

When Apple has their Quarterly press conference expect the iPad 2 to list 4+ million or more sales with back orders in the millions.

The return rate of all Apple products, across all of their hardware lines are lowest in the entire industry.

The iPhone 4 fiasco had a return rate half of that of the iPhone 3GS that everyone loved.

iPad return rate is at 2%: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-20030211-37.html

Look to that being at or lower for the iPad 2.

A really good representation of what Apple is striving to do in the "post PC" era. It's not about tech specs anymore (although those are still important things). Rather, Apple is leading in the innovation of consumer experience, which perhaps, is more essential to a product's success than simply its size, memory, screen resolution, etc. The future leaders of technology will be the ones that entice their customers through the brilliance and personal connections made with their products.

Engadget wrote a great article about this a while back, in case you're interested.
And if you're not interested, maybe you'll prefer this link instead. :)

Thank you for your comment! You hit the nail right on the head. Most people don't understand that simple idea.

Apple is all about the "experience."

My little nephews and nieces know how to work iPad without anyone showing them how to do it and their 2, 3, and 5 year olds.

You can have the fastest, biggest cpus and cameras but what really matters is how easy the product is to use and the experience you get from it.

It is very obvious when someone has no idea what they are talking about, and just making up false information.

I like the iPad... but I don't see any "false information" in his post. At all.
What was false?

You may not like his tone but I would suggest not getting emotionally involved in a toy.

I don't care how much I spend on something - I can fully and happily point out it's faults. I can never understand how a lot of people instantly get totally defensive about something the moment they spend money on it. It's like their ego is too frail to admit anything they might have bought isn't "perfect".

I got news for you - nothing is.

I signed up to post to MacRumors just now so I could post and let you know your analogy is perfect. Excellent post.
