If you need a desktop, Hackintosh. Not really sure what to say if you're looking for a laptop. I thought Windows was the devil, but after using it for almost a year with my built PC, I don't really mind it since I spend most of my times on that thing with the apps and their individual interfaces.

Yeah, that's the problem. I need a laptop, I really want OS X, but I also want reasonably functional hardware. So I have no clue what to do here. I did not anticipate Apple retroactively disabling the prior-gen machines.

That's not what the Wikipedia page for the MacBook Pro says.

Uhh... No. Anyone can edit anything on wikipedia, Apple doesn't even maintain whats up there. You buy something from some seller, you contact with the seller about what you are purchasing. Not wikipedia, not forums, but the seller. If its purchased from a website, link us the page and we can see if the dGPU is listed there, then its false advertising. Otherwise you are just not being a smart customer and started assuming things.

Really? They're under no obligation to keep selling every single configuration for a model that's now been replaced by a newer one. Most companies stop selling old models completely once a new one is out. If you want the dGPU keep your eyes on their Refurb store or look to other retailers.

Well this sucks. I'm one of the people who can't type on the new keyboard (RSI problems), and I was thinking to go to the 2015 model... But I actually need the GPU.

So now what? I can't actually get the 2015 model either, because it got replaced with a stripped-down model?
It didn't get replaced with a stripped-down model, rather the higher-end model was discontinued.

You have external GPU options, but yes that's for people who don't want a desktop.

The new radeon is not that bad, its 965m performance.

This thread....haha you didn't even know what you ordered. Yes they are no longer offered since they launched the 2016 MBP....

I was under the impression that the 15" ones with the higher-end CPUs were all discrete GPU hardware in the past, since normally the high-end machines have been. Sadly, I didn't go write down all their specs, because I didn't expect Apple would change them.

Well at the end of the day, it's your decision. But there's no laptop out there from Apple that gives you the necessary performance of a dGPU without: 1) It costing a fortune, and 2) It possibly failing in the future because of Apple's wonderful laptop designs. I just want to input to say that a nice looking laptop like the Razer Blade with the GTX 1060 would be my ideal choice after looking at what Apple offered. But yes, it's either the comfort of macOS, or the power of your own computer. Good look either way.

You were under the wrong impression then. As I said above to the op, you don't get the radeon for spec bumping the base model.

Yeah. I could get a 2.8GHz model with the M370X, but apparently because Apple it would get randomly throttled and not actually run at spec. So that's probably off the table. And the new ones have... issues. So, yeah, I got nothin'.

The only way to get a '15 w/ M370x dGPU after Apple announced the new lineup on Oct. 27th, is through Apple refurbished - or if you want new, a third party like B&H or Amazon.

I just got my new 2015 MBP 15 inch 2.8GHz 16GB 1TB direct from the factory in China and it's missing the AMD Radeon M370X !!!!!!!!!!

Part No. Z0RF00004
Family ID: Z0RF

**** you Tim. **** you you ****ing *******.

Thanks for the laugh, take this as a life lesson to read and know what you are buying. Nobody's fault but yours. Harsh but true.

New dGPU's have issues?

The dGPU's don't. The machine has some annoyances which would eventually get resolved, lacks magsafe which I consider a serious problem, but mostly, I can't type on that keyboard without pain. So basically I can use the new machine as a very odd desktop, or as a laptop very briefly, or with external keyboard and mouse. (The trackpad is also really not impressing me, it's not great at clicks, mostly because it's too large and it's too easy to bump part of it while trying to touch another part.)

Meh. I'm just really bummed. I am not emotionally ready to move away from MacOS, but it's not as though Apple's willing to sell me machines that are even close to working for me.

It doesn't say dGPU anywhere. It just says iris pro.

Lol op thought you could just order the 2.5 or 2.8 and it would automatically come with the Radeon. Even when the model came out last year, you could of ordered it with just the integrated graphics and spec the machine however you want so I don't see the problem.

Reading comprehension could of saved you a a huge headache.

it wont list the M370X in the "About this mac" section unless you are currently using it, so click 'system report' - 'Graphics' and it should list it there, my 2015 MBP has it and it is the pre config 2.5/512gb

Hmm.. causes pain? The keys are bigger, and they make a sound when clicked. The trackpad is to large ? you either click it or you don't, you can't just tap it and it click something, it needs to be intentional. Have you had a chance to actually use it yet?

Maybe you should read the technical specifications...

Anyways, I don't care anymore. I ordered a refurbished model a few moments ago and just returned the new one to my local Apple store. In fact, I just saved $86.6. Apple had to pay for express shipping from China for the new one and now they have to sell my new one as a refurbished because I opened it. haha.
