It showed desperation, that's for sure. Apple Inc can do whatever they can and want; the iPhone 4's image and Apple's reputation have been seriously damaged, their credibility tarnished in front of our eyes. There were never so many angry people on Macrumors before...

The videos were doctored. E.g., n97 mini was in energy saving mode in which the antenna software behaves differently than under normal operation. Droid X was apparently not in 3G network in the first place.

Have any evidence or just posting more fud for people to believe as truth?

They were probably about to sued to bankruptcy by other manufacturers.

Do you think these videos contained anything that wasn't the truth? If you think so, please post any examples. Quite tellingly, none of the companies in their press releases made any such claims. They were all waxing lyrically about how much time and effort and experience they put into their antenna design, cleverly avoiding any claims that Apple wasn't saying the truth.

Lets, see lying about the competitions products to make yours less crap than it actually is. Steve Jobs lying in public about the other companies?

That there is enough to blow Apple back 10 years.

Again, you make totally unfounded claims. I bet you can't find anything said in these videos that is not the truth. But if you can, tell us, and maybe tell the SEC. They would be very interested if the CEO of a company lies about his own and competitors products in public and would be very keen to hear of any evidence from you. On the other hand, they are _not_ interested in someone blowing hot air.

absolutely. Apple knew about their flaw from the beginning (why they released bumpers to start with). Apple attempted to fake videos of other phones signal dropping in an effort to make their phone seem normal. I love Apple computers, but when it comes to the iPhone, Apple is just so lame.

Are you high? I can make my wife's droid x drop a call completely by holding it a certain way! Have yet to drop a call on my iPhone 4

Support for this?

It was a mistake from the start to talk about competition. They should concentrate on their own products. I am glad to see them correct their mistake, even if the reasons for doing that might not be the right ones.

I agree to a point. But I also feel Apple has every right to spread the "damage" across the playing field. When other products want to deem themselves "iPhone killers" or whatever, I feel it's fair game. All's fair in love and war.

This is the best I could find (last comment on the page):
"There just two bars of battery left on Nokia N97 min. This does mean that Nokia N97 mini was actually running on Power Saver Mode. May be they dropped the battery to 1 bar and then just charged it little to bring the second bar up.

If you notice all the other phone , they all have full charge.

Nokia phone provide extra power to antenna if the signal is low. This seems all a setup by Apple, Why they didnt show this with Full Battery Power."

Additionally, in the Droid X demo, the phone lacked the 3G icon next to the recetion bars.

A good move on Apple's part, finally. Those videos didn't have anything to do with the actual iPhone 4 issue in the first place and only served to spread FUD about the industry.

Very happy iPhone 4 owner here, but I think Apple have made a serious design mistake. There's a YouTube video of a guy causing the signal drop with a paperclip, with no skin contact - I'm no expert, but I don't believe this is the same issue as the traditional attenuation experienced with most phones. It seems like the 2 antennas (wifi + gsm) are being bridged, which is causing interference of some sort.

ROFL, just played with my mates new iPhone 4g in Australia. Put my thumb on the little part connecting the antenna. BOOM No effect (hardly), turns out that Australian mobile network is more powerful than the American one? Who would have known.

Ingenious, since now the bickering has virtually dematerialized. We've subconsciously come to terms with the non-issue, through Steve's sensual words impregnating the thought into our very impressionable cerebrum. Bravo!

This is why I love Apple; they do all the deciding for me!

Yeah, hilllarious.

Too bad less than one percent of Applecare members experience the problem you're talking about.

Link to proof of your claim ? (I think you're mixing up the 0.55% stat again... It's not about the number of americans affected by the issue. It's about the number of iPhone 4 owners who called Applecare about it as a primary issue).

That's the long and short of it. There will be residual affect, but right now, people are still waiting for iPhone 4's to come through. More than ever, people are quizing complete strangers who tell them... yes, this issues is overblown. The videos served their purpose. Apple made its point. Time to move on. Leave the videos on YouTube, and update the new iPhone 4 models in the pipeline by coating or anodizing the external metal band. It is what it is.

N97 mini: Watch the video, look at the battery indicator. There's your proof.
Droid X: Watch the video, look at what network it's on. There's your proof.

Sued for what? They first would have to prove that it’s not true, then prove they suffered damages. Other manufactures didn’t even deny it. Apple proved their point, I’m sure that’s why they took it down.

The videos did nothing for me as there is a big difference between "Death Grip" that may handsets have and the "Death Touch" that the iPhone 4 has.

Even if they show a demonstration of another phone degrading in performance, not just loss or non-loss of bars, when you touch it with a finger or have it just resting/sitting in a hand - it doesn't solve the iPhone 4 issue.

I planned on using mine in a case most of the time anyway because I'm a klutz!

Yep, and besides, I'm rather enervated with this issue, what is now a non-issue. The problem is evident, but as much as Apple spent producing and disseminating the phone, a recall would never have occurred. Their chosen road proved to be effective too. This is why Apple has a lucrative business. Marketing geniuses.
