Yep. I’d say that description is pretty much exactly reichstag.7 months of blm rioting and looting and no one said a word but 2 hours of people walking in and taking selfies and no one with weapons and the world ends lol goodnight everyone
It's not a new precedent, it's been that way forever. No matter what side of the argument one lands on, these actions set a new precedent for communication gatekeeping and information sharing. How much power are we willing to yield to such gatekeepers?
There is a difference between reasoned, polite dissent, and providing a platform for dissemination of misinformation or other kinds of communication designed to incite violence or distrust of well-established societal norms (e.g. the rule of law and the democratic process).Good. All social media should have the power to censor anyone who doesn't agree with the Democratic/liberal way(s) of thinking.

Big difference. Parler talk is “all nig#+#^ should be hung by a tree like their ancestors and we should gut fa;&(ots up their ... throw moltitov cocktsins in the window of...” and mean it. That’s not protected by the fifth amendment and their threats did they mean to carry out that is the kind of **** you see on parler. Every other platform with block the post and Bam the user for posting it.yeah, here's reality. I remember seeing PLENTY of tweets from BLM groups that had no problem with stating they had every plan on going after anyone and everyone who didn't comply and or agree to their demands.
Of course no one is going to complain about those types of posts.....
Bravo! Yelling FIRE in a crowded theatre isn't allowed. The 1st amendment has nothing to do with this. Apps or publications that encourage violence and spread demonstrably false material deserve to be run into the ground. Private Companies still don't have to take orders from one man or one party.
Please explain. Are you saying that in a Capitalist Economy, a Private Company actually has a choice in who they deal with?
Goes off to meditate on the terms Liberal Economy, Capitalist Economy, and the like...
I just checked the top 30 U.S. trends. It’s not trending, but when it was shown in the sidebar earlier today for me, I checked it out. It was mostly people discussing some MAGA terrorists who were saying that on Wednesday while they were breaching the Capitol building. And yet "Hang Mike Pence" is trending on Twitter. I am sure Apple is just about to ban the twitter app.
The Republican Party that loathed outsider Donald Trump from the very beginning? The one that stabbed him in the back, almost universally? There exist myriad reasons why this hypothetical conservative party is not for me, but I’d welcome it with open arms at the expense of the disgrace that’s been made of the Republican Party at the hands of Trump and his lackeys.
Yeah they should. They have the 1A rights to. The 1A also allows anyone who doesn't like that to go start their own platforms. I agree it's scary to have power consolidated in tech firms, but there's nothing the government can do about this without violating even more freedoms.Good. All social media should have the power to censor anyone who doesn't agree with the Democratic/liberal way(s) of thinking.

Proof? And did you report the offensive tweets to Twitter? Or did you just come here to complain?
They are a private company that is publicly traded. “Private” in that the government doesn’t run it; “publicly traded” in that effectively any adult with the money to do so can buy shares. Contrarily, “public” means the government runs it and “privately held” means that not just anyone can invest.Honest question - are they a private company or a publicly traded company?
They would still need one to do that, but that's indeed not Apple's problem.Parler can do what they what on their own website
Agreed. Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act makes it completely unnecessary for Apple to be acting in this manner. With Google’s ban, Apple had the incredible opportunity to establish itself as the free-speech alternative, along with being the privacy-minded alternative, to the fearsome and disgusting Google.
Instead, their cultural impulse towards increased censorship led them down a dark and endless path.
I’ve been a single-brand Apple loyalist for 30+ years. Now I’ll be returning the 8 Apple devices I purchased for Christmas, and seeking alternatives at every possible turn as I move away from the company forever.
You totalitarians can commence your little celebration now.

Publicly traded. That's still private sector, if you were thinking otherwise.Honest question - are they a private company or a publicly traded company?

"In other words, online intermediaries that host or republish speech are protected against a range of laws that might otherwise be used to hold them legally responsible for what others say and do." - EFF
The point of Section 230 is so that Facebook, Google, Apple etc don't need to run amok with their lawyers banning every other user in case of lawsuit.
The bar should be extremely high for censorship. As in, so high that it's nearly impossible to reach it. Hating Trump isn't a good enough reason. Liberals get so trigged by the bad orange man, it's unreal. This is Trump-ban domino effect. I knew it wouldn't stop with him, I knew libs in power wouldn't be able to help themselves by only going after the bad orange man.
Did you miss the news that, after Sunday, with their host AWS booting them, that’s not an option, either.Speaking of iPhones, did you know that back before the iPhone there was something called the "web browser" which is how people accessed things like Twitter or Parler?
Did you know that's still on your phone?
Isn't the inability to be a little bit civilized and not repeat lies and spew hatred on one hand and know how to spell properly (or even use a spellchecker) on the other hand twice the same root cause: lack of education ?It’s hate or spelling, but never both, it seems. ::: facepalm :::
