Lol, I haven’t heard of a single person who’s enjoyed these shows.

The thing is, what else you going to watch on appletv+ ? There's nothing else except these shows and they are terrible (except the morning show). This is like hollywood video rental store vs blockbuster back in the day. Except it's not even hollywood video calibre, it's like a mom and pop VHS rental shop off the university school district.

Said it BEFORE, I'll say it again.

ATV+ will be a $5B USD annual loss until they decide to kill it, perhaps 3-4 years from now.

The first two episodes of "See" get a D- grade !

About equal to the last (horrible) season of Game of Thrones.

GoT was a solid A up-until their last season, with some episodes A++ !

So Apple is Doomed ™?

As someone who rarely watches tv in general other than whatever Star Trek is going on and never watched any sitcoms or anything in primetime since I've worked afternoons to late nights since I was 16... the only Apple TV+ show I've started watching was The Morning Show basically because a friend told me I would like it and I do like it... and I barely know who the stars are since I don't do pop culture... but I did work in local live news as a cameraman and production assistant when I was 16 till I went off to college at 17, brings back memories... I have the free year for buying an iPad for my nephew.

My money is on TV+.

I don't care for the show but See gets an 83% from the audience. Since when is that a D? The audience is all that matters, not critics.

Ha you beat me to it! The shows I've sampled so far have stellar production values, and if I had to bet right now I would go with ATV success, especially at $5/month $50/year. If they continue to hold that price while adding shows they should do well. I'm waiting for Amazing Stories to come out with fingers crossed.

that’s not how different options works. People don’t have to choose between The Mandalorian (which could be drek, who knows) and The Morning Show. Shock, they can watch both.
Especially when millions of people will be getting the first year free. Brilliant marketing IMO.

I was sceptical, yet have really enjoyed both 'The Morning Show' and 'See'.

I wish we could binge watch yet understand the need for pacing on a new service.

It really is. Pay $50 at the end of your free year and it’s a lot like $2/month for the first two years, while content is relatively sparse.

btw, I very rarely say I told you so, but I took a lot of heat for postulating an ATV+ price of $1.99-2.99 last April. Even at $4.99 I still feel vindicated, considering how surprised people were by $4.99, compared to the Netflix/Hulu range that most expected.

(This was before Disney+ announced at $6.99, when nearly everyone assumed both services would price at $10-15.)

Wow the ratings for the Morning Show have been terrible. Apple must have already promised a second season from the start.

Watched the first episode of TMS and my wife and I both really liked it, need to see how the rest plays out. We haven't caught any of the other shows at this time.

I've only watched the first episode of "See" and I thought it was pretty good but I really like "The Morning Show". Great acting, good writing, and excellent production values. I'm looking forward to more episodes.

I saw the first three episodes of Game of Thrones and hated it.
I'm just not into fantasy that much. And there was so much sex, that I felt tricked into watching. So I stopped. I did like the first two episodes of See though.

wait until you see the lady masturbating to pray in see...
Yeah. That part was pretty unusual to be sure; I’m a little surprised Apple went with that to be honest. I’d agree with the general opinion See is receiving. It is a very strange movie, but I still am intrigued by the plot, so until I get totally frustrated or sick of it, I’ll probably keep watching it.

Apple HAS TO renew these shows for Season 2 because it's all they have at the moment. :)

I think the shows are all the same as Netflix and others. Same people. Same community of actors. Just different wallets.

It’s like people have never seen an original show or something. Netflix and others has these by the hundreds. There’s no special Apple ingredient here. They’re not made in China.
It’s like people haven’t seen Netflix and the others at all. If they did, Apple wouldn’t get away with releasing one episode per week when the others usually release a full season of a series at once. I realized that immediately upon looking at the show listings on Apple TV+, but it seems no one else did. There isn’t a single comment about Apple releasing an episode per week vs others releasing a full season at a time, which I am surprised about.

The Morning Show is exceptional, IMO, and we really like See as well. See is a little different, but that kind of show is bound to be. I've seen the first episode of GoT and it was frankly off-putting and bleh. After watching the second episode, See is definitely getting more and more interesting.
Yeah, but they should already have released the full first season by now if they truly want to compete with others such as amazon prime or netflix, not just three episodes on premiere day and then one episode per week. A great example of arrogance. Apple basically ignoring the competition as if it didn’t exist.

I have no idea why people think Apple is going to be long-term successful in this space…

Success in media and content has very little in common with things that they have traditionally been great at.

This is a hardware and software engineering company at its core and its best.
(The former much more than the latter)

because anything with an apple logo gets bought up by the dumb (w/money). You need quality shows and so far there are none. The dumbest show has to be that dickens show.

I am starting to think that Netflix’s strategy of releasing the entire season at one go may eventually backfire on them.

What I find myself doing with new Netflix shows is to watch a few episodes, then start scrubbing through the next few to get to the good parts, or skipping right through to the last episode to see how it all ends. At what point does it stop being a tv series and become one very long (and poorly-edited) movie? It’s just exhausting at the end.

With an episode a week, there is no pressure to binge all the episodes at one go. You can relax and watch just one episode a week, which in turn increases the likelihood that people actually watch it from start to end, then take the time to sit back and reflect over what you have just watched.

This also allows Apple to get around not having a back catalogue of content, because right now, there is always something fresh to look forward to every week (new episodes of See and Morning Show for me). This means that with a 10-episode series like See, Apple is able to stretch it over 2 months. Unlike Netflix where you can finish watching it over the weekend.

I don’t think this is a case of Apple being arrogant and ignoring the competition. Rather, Apple is watching and taking notes and learning what works and what doesn’t in the world of streaming video and I think Apple has (rightly) come to the conclusion that binge watching is not a trend they want to encourage in their subscribers.

And I think that Apple ultimately made the right call here. TV+ is a nice complement to my existing watching regiment (YouTube, Netflix, a bit of prime), and I value the new content it brings very much.

Welp maybe our complaints help. I hear top shelf is an option again in tvOS beta. Good to see Apple listening.

So far I’m liking all I’ve seen on TV+. Dickinson was the surprise for me as I’m surely not the demographic they were looking for. Quirky and fun to watch! You wouldn’t think a 75 year old straight white male would be into such a show.

Interesting! I’ve been waiting until there’s a little more content to start my trial, but based on your recommendation maybe I’ll go ahead and pull the trigger :)

Apple actually says they’re not targeting demographics as a traditional network would do; not having to cater to advertisers makes that possible. Their thinking is that if they put forth quality content, it will find an audience. I’m optimistic.
