It’s like people haven’t seen Netflix and the others at all. If they did, Apple wouldn’t get away with releasing one episode per week when the others usually release a full season of a series at once. I realized that immediately upon looking at the show listings on Apple TV+, but it seems no one else did. There isn’t a single comment about Apple releasing an episode per week vs others releasing a full season at a time, which I am surprised about.

Yeah, but they should already have released the full first season by now if they truly want to compete with others such as amazon prime or netflix, not just three episodes on premiere day and then one episode per week. A great example of arrogance. Apple basically ignoring the competition as if it didn’t exist.
I am starting to think that Netflix’s strategy of releasing the entire season at one go may eventually backfire on them.
What I find myself doing with new Netflix shows is to watch a few episodes, then start scrubbing through the next few to get to the good parts, or skipping right through to the last episode to see how it all ends. At what point does it stop being a tv series and become one very long (and poorly-edited) movie? It’s just exhausting at the end.
With an episode a week, there is no pressure to binge all the episodes at one go. You can relax and watch just one episode a week, which in turn increases the likelihood that people actually watch it from start to end, then take the time to sit back and reflect over what you have just watched.
This also allows Apple to get around not having a back catalogue of content, because right now, there is always something fresh to look forward to every week (new episodes of See and Morning Show for me). This means that with a 10-episode series like See, Apple is able to stretch it over 2 months. Unlike Netflix where you can finish watching it over the weekend.
I don’t think this is a case of Apple being arrogant and ignoring the competition. Rather, Apple is watching and taking notes and learning what works and what doesn’t in the world of streaming video and I think Apple has (rightly) come to the conclusion that binge watching is not a trend they want to encourage in their subscribers.
And I think that Apple ultimately made the right call here. TV+ is a nice complement to my existing watching regiment (YouTube, Netflix, a bit of prime), and I value the new content it brings very much.
