Not seeing what the obsession is with Disney. Setting aside the Star Wars and Marvel franchises, the rest of their catalog is nothing but duds and g-rated films/tv shows. They've had occasional successes such as Sixth Sense, but they are all movies most people have seen a hundred times that are now making the rounds on TNT, USA, etc.

So the story now is that despite a relative lack of success beyond their anchor franchises, they are going to somehow revolutionize streaming with content that will blow your mind away.

Yet the only new content they've announced so far consists of mostly reboots and animated films (i.e., the same shows they've been recycling for years).
Ever heard of Pixar? Or that's nothing because it's animated and rated G?

I like how you just just dismissed everything "Disney" because it's G rated like they aren't popular. Ever heard of Toy Story, Aladdin, Frozen, Cars, Nemo, Lion King, Maleficent, etc?

Toy Story, Lion King, and Aladdin were 3 of the top 6 movies of 2019, all doing over $1B in sales, so they are successful and people like the content.

What about the Pirates franchise? Marginally successful? LOL!

I mean, you can hate on the princess concept and classic Disney all you want, but they keep making them in different ways because people watch them and like them.

Disney is devastatingly dominant in their content ownership. They control Hulu, ESPN, ABC, Fox assets (Simpsons, Family Guy, etc), National Geographic, A&E, History, etc etc etc. Their content is endless and surely has something you would want to watch.

For $6.99/month, it's easily the best value available.

Disney is the King of content.

I have no idea why people think Apple is going to be long-term successful in this space…

Success in media and content has very little in common with things that they have traditionally been great at.

This is a hardware and software engineering company at its core and its best.
(The former much more than the latter)

6.99 wont include all that. Disney brand content for the most part. The old stuff. Marvel and Star Wars but you’ve seen those several times already. A couple of original content shows with much not ready for the next few years.

Seems like a decent value. But something tells me you’ll quickly tire of it. No one in my household watches Disney channel as it is. This is something you may wanna pay for one or two months out of year to catch any original series in a binge. Similar to cbs, hbo, or Apple. This is why Disney is trying so hard to get people locked in for 3 years.

Netflix and amazon remain the only ones where people might pay continuously. Netflix because they overspend. Amazon for shipping.

Says you “Get the best of Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic” for $6.99/month or $69.99 per year. Not sure what you don’t get, but Disney content is better than Netflix or Amazon...that’s their advantage.

They’ll also have 30 seasons of the Simpsons and Mandalorian, which is new. And they’ll add all the time.

You’re severely underestimating the pull of Disney’s best in industry content. It really doesn’t matter if your family watches the Disney Channel.

Oh and 4K isn’t extra, you can stream on 4 devices simultaneously, and you get unlimited downloads. You can also bundle with ESPN+ for $12.99, and get access to tons of sports content.

Rotten Tomato audience scores don't mean much. The audience of a show is a self-selected group who are watching because they are interested in that particular show. Those who register a score on RT are a self-selected group from that self-selected group. It is pretty standard for shows with mediocre reviews to have much higher audience scores. Audience scores simply are not going to tell you much about a show's ability to draw in or retain viewers.

I don't think the renewals are a surprise. This is a long term investment for Apple, and any show that is better than a disaster has to be renewed. Apple doesn't have the mass of content necessary to shuffle out shows at this point. Apple TV+ is not about making money right now. It is about building a base of customers willing to shell out money in the future.

Sure I’ll grant you it’s better. Heck I bought most the movies. But I already own what i would want to watch? I get it. The mandolin Star Wars thing is new but I’ll wait til there’s a season or two on there.

Still you’d think people would get tired of Disney all the time.

That’s the thing though. Disney owns so much stuff that isn’t just princesses and Marvel. Go look at their owned library. It’s insane.

I got a 4K Apple TV, so I could get a year free of the service.

I have two Apple TVs that are a few years old. Actually, I have like, six of the original. haha

I started watching the shows.

I did not like any of them.

I finished the Dickinson a few days after starting and it was ok. But, four episodes. haha Wow, that is worth it. I am not even going to worry about watching them, I mean, any time soon. It was not good enough to push me into watching.

The show with Aniston, just seems like it will have such over acted roles and so many overly dramatic moments.

Then, I tired Disney + and kind of laughed.

In no way, is Apple + on the same level as Disney +.

What in the hell is there to look forward to with Apple TV +? A few more episodes of shows with a mediocre script?

Unless they start doing something completely different with the service, I think they will have to drop it.

They just tried to fast.

Get some movies and shows that have at least ten episodes ready, before you launch.
