Excited about the watch, but obviously would wait for reviews to jump in or perhaps wait the 2nd generation which could happen in 2017 if apple only sell apple watch for 2.8 million, imho.

You're willing to wait two and a half years for a watch. It doesn't sound like you are too excited after all

iOS and OS X work perfectly for me. Not a single problem. I'll be up a midnight to pre order the Apple Watch. The more of you who stay away from it, the easier it will be for me to get one. Waterproof, I don't need. I don't need to wear it in the shower.

It's actually hilarious to listen to you guys complain and point out why you won't buy it. Apple is actually aware of every single objection you have. Raising your objections here over and over again will get you nowhere. The watch will be what it will be in it's first generation. And Apple knows it will sell a millions of them without your participation. And they don't care. So, instead of moaning and groaning, find another solution that will make you happy. I promise you that Apple won't mind one little bit and your lost sale will be insignificant. You aren't nearly as powerful as you'd like to think you are.

I think it's pretty funny that so many people are lining up to buy a product they know pretty much nothing about just because Apple made it. I sure hope the Apple Watch delivers upon the hype. I don't wear a watch and nothing I've seen about the Apple Watch so far makes me think I'll buy one. From my perspective, it's a very expensive iPhone accessory with limited use and value. I'm looking forward to a proper launch, though, and to learning about its full feature set. My prediction: first and even second quarter sales will be very strong thanks to the fanboy market. After that, sales fall off a cliff.

12 inch MBA = 12 inch "iPad Pro". You heard it here first.

remember before the first iPad. everyone thought it was going to be a touch screen MBA?? Most predicted 999 price range because of it.

then what we got was a blown-up iPod touch.

Macbook pro update?

Is there any estimated date to updating the macbook pro line? Not the air, but for pro? Is it likely that new air and pros come out at the same time?

Will they release the new laptops along with Apple watch event in march?

Not to be a party pooper, but I'm just not interested in these devices. I really wish apple would listen to people on this site and continue developing their desktop line up and focus on making Mac OS 10 as great as it can be. That's what the mac experience is really all about. #

I think Apple prefers to listen to people whose advice won't lead them into bankruptcy.

Seeing how Apple always has a proprietary connector (FireWire, 30-pin, Thunderbolt, Lightning), I wouldn't count on it.

no, yes, no, yes.
50% correct, not bad

----------

If the only purpose of the port was to charge and transfer data, that might be the case. But the Lightning Connector was designed to do so much more. The main advantage is that the pins can be dynamically reassigned to do different things at different times. This allows it to also be an audio/video out port and I believe that there were other purposes foreseen as well.

One could argue that these other uses of the Lightning port are rarely used by most people and that they can be replicated by Airplay/Bluetooth. So maybe Apple would decide that the extra functions aren't needed. But to just say that Apple chose a proprietary connector just to be different is wrong. They chose it because it offers additional capability that a normal USB connector cannot.

Lightning was released outdated and needs a mini computer in the HDMI adapter to work.

----------

Everyone keeps forgetting that Apple was told by European regulators that they have to use Micro USB for their devices: http://www.patentlyapple.com/patent...ndard-port-for-european-idevices-by-2017.html. I'm sure Apple would prefer Lightning but they don't want to make European only versions of their devices, so here we are.

Lightning was released after the European requirements, apple is already in compliance, no need to change for that.

I will definitely be holding off until apple watch 2.

My needs:
wear in shower
wear while sleeping so I can track sleep and have a vibrating alarm so I don't wake up my partner.
36 hours battery life so I can wear at night

Sense by Hello will fix that (sleeping) problem.

I'll wait for the reviews, if the watch suck. I still have my mechanical auto watch to accompany me for another 2 years :D

Hehe, why are two wrong? Apple always tries to make a big shift in ports but it never really worked. When all devices used a regular usb port, they came with FireWire and 30-pin. When everyone uses HDMI ports, they use Thunderbolt. When everyone uses micro usb, they use Lightning.

Sure, these ports may do a better/faster job, but the peripherals that make use of them are so expensive, no one buys them. In the end, it's just a nuisance. Because, next do all your other devices, you still need to bring ''special'' Apple cables.

Both 1394 and thunderbolt are not proprietary.

Show me one apple device that has a 30 Pin connector instead of a "normal usb" connector? I believe you are talking about the opposite end of the cables.

HDMI and thunderbolt are almost completely different, maybe you are thinking about displayport.

Such as? I'm sorry but are completely mistaken

I'm curious too, 30 Pin and lightning are extremely successful. 1394, mini DP and thunderbolt are not Apples.

The only one I can think of might be the ACD connector, not sure as I know nothing about it.

On a sidenote micro USB was released in 2007 and is already obsolete. The Apple 30 pin connector will have had a longer run on flagship devices than Micro USB.

All I would like to know is the water resistivity or lack thereof for the Watch.

You can drop water on that but not swim with it

If this is true, I wonder if this signals a shift away from the Lightning connector. Apple wouldn't shift to USB-C for just one device. If they do ditch Lightning, that would be one of their shortest-lived standards. But USB-C at least will be more compatible across a range of devices.

LIghtning is used for mobile devices like iPad, iPhone and iPad.
It is never used for computers like the 12 inch Macbook, therefore it can't be dropped (cause it never was used). Macbooks use different things like miniDisplay Port for which HDMI and VGA adapters exist and usual USB 3.0

Yeah, sorry I was thinking about display port. Thunderbolt is still backwards compatible and it's advantages are faster transfer speeds and hooking up multiple monitors. But isn't it basically the new FireWire? You got people using usb 2.0 then 3.0, while Apple comes with something that's a bit faster while less affordable, with that you'd also need a new adapter if you want to use thunderbolt to connect it to a monitor or tv via hdmi.

I'm just not sure it thunderbolt was a smart thing and I think it's being used a lot less, like FireWire was. Even on the 13' Retina MacBook Pros, they put two of them while I'd happily have one more usb port instead.

Classic Apple - promising but proprietary, closed, expensive "standards" that never take off outside of Apple, live a short life and die a sudden death. They just keep doing it over and over.

Well, except for that USB thing of course.

The thing people don't seem to understand is that Apple has specific reasons for its connectors. The 30-pin connector had power (initially 5 and 12 volt), digital video, digital audio, analog audio, and a bunch of control channels. What do you want Apple to do, put a*f*cking centronics port on the iDevice line? Lightning - it's fast, reversible, and has power. And it's robust.

They could have used USB. Sure: the connector is big, retarded, and is being replaced. What about mini and micro USB? They didn't exist when the iPod was released.

Even today USB C still too big for mobile. For previous USB versions, it's a pain to insert them. I've almost broken my Samsung devices trying to shove the damn micro-usb cable in. I inevitably have to try to insert a USB cable twice. It's stupid.

If people with this attitude had their way we'd be using ultra-wide SCSI cables on our phones, and trying to figure out how to screw in the DB25s.

Does not change the fact that Thunderbolt and 1394(firewire) are not proprietary.

I'm happy I do not have an extra USB port on my Macbook Air instead of the thunderbolt port. Without the thunderbolt port I would not be able to hook up my external display. USB type C might change this, but for now happy with the thunderbolt port even though I never use the thunderbolt part of it.

I'd love an iPhone with a USB B connector

I want an 8" floppy drive on my :apple:Watch.

Yeah okay, I just read up on that one, my bad.

I'm also happy about my only thunderbolt port on my Air since I also use it for my external monitor. I never meant Apple should remove it in favor to usb. I just think they shouldn't include two of them on the retina models since those offer a hdmi port. I'm looking into getting a retina model, and wished it had 1 usb more in favor to 1 thunderbolt port. Since it already has 2 AND a hdmi port, it seems overkill.

Anyways, back on topic. I'm interested to see what they'll do with this type C connector and what inconveniences it might bring. :p
