And now I want an apology from those that denied that these "budget" phones weren't selling well.

I told you. Retailers don't discount on things selling well.

(Slams door)

We want an apology from you once we get the official figures!

too expensive, iPhone 5 looks and feels better and it is cheaper for about 130 euros in my country comparing with 5C. I know a lot of people who bought iPhone 5 not so long time ago. Price is fine, quality is good, hardware is superb for normal usage.

Just make it in some other colors like black and grey, and show the kids in those CW and MTV shows using them, and they'll sell like hotcakes. I'm not sure if lowering the full price would help, since people are already getting them for $99 on contract. If they end up being free on contract then they can't sell the supplies of the 4S.

the 5c will be $0 with contract when the holiday season approaches. Mark my words.

We're not afraid of color, but most men have completely different color preferences than all the teenage girls the 5C is marketed towards.

I don't want bright, shiny, sparkly, trendy, neon colors that scream-out to the world, "Hey, look at me! I really want your attention so you will notice how "cool" I am!"

In my opinion, It's really narcissistic, much like the majority of American women/girls now.

Holy cow, look at this ad. Just wall-to-wall teenage girls as far as the eye can see.

Im a guy and like the colors. What I don't like is the a6, same camera as 5, and no FP scanner all for a measly $100 savings.

If I'm paying hundreds for a phone, then I can afford another $100.

As a car guy you ought to know all about resale value. 5c is last years phone in a new body.
That's it.

Last time I bought a new car I spoke to the car dealer, and he said he definitely has lots of customers who buy a brand new car, drive it until it falls apart, buy a new one. Some had bought three cars off him, and he was sure they would buy the fourth in ten years time :D

I also prefer the black or gray. Don't know if that makes me more "grown-up" but I have a hard time believing that people would choose the 5C over the 5S if it had a black or gray version. I do prefer it over the pastels-as you do-but I still would want the A7, Fingerprint Sensor and improved camera in the 5S.

I was thinking about upgrading as my girlfriend's iPhone 4 is near death and I was going to give her my 5 - decided to wait for the iPhone 6 because the 5S doesn't have much real extra value for me (5 is fast enough, don't lock the phone) and the 5C doesn't really appeal - too expensive and poor colour options for me (I like the plastic body though).

I'm not some roid freak macho man but then I always buy cars in dark metallics rather than pink or yellow as well, just me and quite frankly a lot of guys have similar taste.

No. A "black market" is an illegal market.

According to the article in question:
The official price of iPhone 5c in China is 4448 Yuan ($726). But there is a thriving grey market over there, with iPhones bought in the U.S, Europe and Hong-Kong, illegally smuggled into the country.

A market that sells items illegally smuggled into the country seems illegal to me. And that fits the definition of "black market" for you.

I am surprised they are still making a lot per day considering we are seeing a ton in the retailers.

I have seen many buying.

If this is true, Apple Doomsday posters, sorry it's not like they stop making them as the projections since to indicate the gazillion out there are not enough during the holiday season.

So there's something wrong with me because I'm a 28 year old straight guy with a yellow phone?

Nope. I am generalising but if I polled 1000 guys I expect the vast majority would choose a dark shade or bold colour over a pastel one, simple as that. Check out sales figures and demographics for most big purchases with colour options and you'll see what I mean. I have to deal with this stuff all day long as a product designer making things sold around the world.

I assume you mean 5s...

But why are you saying this like it's some sort of shock? This is the way Apple has done business for 3 or 4 years now. They've always sold "last year's phone" for $100 less than the new model.

You're acting like it some sort of shocking revelation.

This isn't last years phone. It's a new model. I'm just not down with it having the same internals as my 5 but just $100 less than the 5s with the latest and greatest. Useful or not, $100 more for the latest and greatest makes sense if one intends to sell it one day.

This is last year's phone with minor changes (the most visible being the plastic body, but that is minor when it comes to what you are paying for ($100 plus 24 monthly bills)

Apple wanted to change things up and not just sell a phone that looks like the new phone with old hardware. They wanted to go for a different market with the old hardware (updating the front camera and LTE antennas as well)

You cannot just call it a new model (you also cannot dismiss it as last years model, but it is closer to last years model than a "new phone")

A market that sells items illegally smuggled into the country seems illegal to me. And that fits the definition of "black market" for you.

According to Wikipedia:

A grey market (also spelled gray market), or parallel market,[1] is the trade of a commodity through distribution channels which, while legal, are unofficial, unauthorized, or unintended by the original manufacturer. The most common type of grey market is the sale of imported goods (brought by small import companies or individuals not authorized by the manufacturer) which would otherwise be more expensive in the country they are being imported to. An example is drugs being imported into nearby wealthier nations where the drug manufacturer charges a higher price for a similar or equivalent product.

So cutting back to 150,000 per day is only 4.5 million per month. At $550 each that means revenue per quarter on this one item is only about $7.4 billion.

Yeah, that sucks.

How DARE you spew out FACTS that look good for Apple, when the rest of us here are trying to paint this as doom and gloom!

I have a bumper case for that.

BTW, Why do you defend the 5c option so much?

Because I would venture to guess that the majority of opinion against the phone comes from individuals who either:

a) Have never seen or held an iPhone 5c in their life.

b) Are so mental that they somehow feel that the mere existence of the 5c devalues the iPhone brand.

c) Are even more mental to the point where they feel like anyone who decided to purchase an 5c because they preferred it must themselves be mental, because "Why would you want the cheap, plastic, year-old phone? What's wrong with you?"

I don't know who in their right mind would by a 5C when it's only $100 cheaper than a 5S. Given the difference in performance/features the 5C is really poor value.

Thank you! I've been saying that for weeks. The 5c is actually a downgrade from the year old 5! If I was in the market for a phone, 5s is my first choice, followed by 5, and then 5c.

They should have priced it free with contract, $450 without. This is not to say it's a failure, but it could have been a killer.

I probably fall under the mentalist category.
