You know that was never ever ever going to happen. What you're describing is no longer an SE, it's a brand new thing.

I don't think we'll ever see Touch ID on the sleep/wake button for an iPhone. Such a high percentage of users put a case on their phone, and each case probably affects the quality of the contact between finger and sensor, that I just don't see that happening.
Yes the same percentage of users have bulky otter box cases with exposed TouchID for 6-to-SE2 so why cannot the same cases be adjusted for TouchID on sleep/wake buttons ? Hmmm

What I don’t understand about the SE anymore is why Apple doesn’t dig into its margins quite a bit just to get an entry-level device at an entry-level price

Their really big margins are on all the services revenue in the ecosystem

They should be trying to get these phones in more hands

The number of cases that would have to be adjusted to expose the sleep button is way way way more than had to be adjusted to expose Touch ID. Sure, otterbox cases and other full-protection cases protected the Touch ID button; but the vast vast vast majority of cases you can get out there have always exposed the entire face of the phone including the button. I think the number of case manufacturers that had to somehow re-engineer their cases to account for Touch ID was vanishingly small in the universe of iPhone cases.

Kuo is such a brilliant analyst that in just a few weeks he's had to cut his forecasts by 33.3% to 40%!

From 25-30 million down to “only“ 15-20 million!

(Note: do the math — 10/25 = 40% and 10/30 = 33.3%)

Talk about an inaccurate prediction! ?❌??

On the other hand, he's still predicting that up to 20 million iPhone SEs will be sold this year alone! That's HUGE!

Much of this thread, however, is built around the assumption that the phone isn't selling and is already a flop; along with people asserting they knew all along it would be. ???

Any wagers that subsidiary services, app revenue (to a much lesser extent), and new owners will generate a substantial profit for Apple, anyway? ?

As the year goes on, demand will pick up especially for birthdays, graduations, back to school, and the holidays. With $50+ price cuts by 3rd party sellers later in the year, and even, perhaps, fall cuts by Apple (back to $399), sales will boom even more!

You've heard it here first — this phone will be a sleeper hit and revenue generator! ?? ??? ? ???

The biggest reason for the SE3, is better battery life, 5G (so you have a backup network, since 3G is fading fast), having physical buttons, and Qi
Customers wanting a "cheap" iPhone will rarely care about 5G, often not even have a price plan for that. And neither will they care for fancy yet not cheap Qi charging.

The target market for this us being crushed by inflation. They’re not buying anything they don’t have to.
While partially true, the real culprit is the fact that many people are using their phones as their primary Internet connectivity device. That's why Apple decided (if the rumors are true!) to roll out an iPhone 14 Max model with a 6.7" touchscreen.

LOL the three people I know who bought a 12 mini hated it and have to carry a power bank around all the time.

Next time they aren't buying a mini...
The mini is perfect for low to moderate users. Out all day taking photos and videos, and IG, and maps, and…. Yeah no. Even the 13mini improved SOT of about +\- 6 hours, it’s not a power/work horse.

Definitely not a media consumption or Content Creator’s tool.

As an Apple user, I hope this wakes up the powers that be that assist in the design of these devices. Consumers are growing tired of the same designs being presented in front of them as “upgrades”. Hence the reason I didn’t upgrade this year from the 12 Pro Max to the 13 Pro Max.
Right. They will just forget about making a smaller cheaper phone with powerful insides and focus on the phones making a much larger profit.

I’m actually planning to trade my iPhone 8 for one of these. It stays in a case anyway, so the design is less important. Bigger may have been better, but faster and more capable works for me.

I understand that people tend to point to one reason, but the appeal of the SE line has always been multi-faceted. It's not just about a smaller iPhone. The iPhone 12 Mini is slightly smaller than the SE. So it's not JUST a smaller phone.

Another reason for interest in the SE is the older design aesthetics in comparison to the leading edge models. As difficult as it might be to believe, that there ARE people out there that actually prefer those older designs.

And then there's the price. The current MSRP of $429 makes it very attractive for those who want to enter (or remain in) the iPhone ecosystem.

If demand for the SE is less than expected (I don't necessarily believe that), there could be other factors other than the SE not being appealing in and of itself. Things like the uncertainty in the economy, anticipation of newer iPhone models, etc.
They should lower the price to $397. There is are psychological barriers a certain price points and I believe $400 may be one for their target audience for this phone in the current marketplace.

I disagree. My wife loves that size and the TouchID
There are still plenty of Apple users who want a phone that fits their hand

Don’t we get these posts with every iPhone release? Apple over estimates demand and cuts production! Cut to two months later… Apple posting record profits on the quarter on the backs of the iPhone SE and Mac Studio. Maybe, just maybe they know what they are doing and ramp up production to account for the immediate demand and then scale back to a more reasonable level after the initial hype dies down.

The A15 is used by a 1% of the SE buyers. A12 is more than enough for a 2016 phone like the SE and 150$ would be a fair enough price for such a unit.
Paid mine $120 in stellar condition a few days ago.

For reasons you mentioned above, iPhone sales go up and down during the year but that would've (should've) been factored into an overall sales estimate. If sales to this point are below expectations, then it would not be unreasonable to assume that sales at other high and low periods later in the year could end up below original expectations too. The problem is that when you're dealing with unusual or uncertain situations (e.g., Ukraine), forecasting becomes more complicated.

I think it's too cheap. They only raised the price by $100, and if you also account for inflation, that means the price only doubled compared to the last iPhone SE. Give me an iPhone that costs at least 8 times more and I might buy it. All this immense amount of money I earned while being jobless during the pandemic with tripling food and living costs thanks to 20% inflation due to the war and the pandemic ain't going to spend itself!

Wrong, the dimensions of the device are what make a phone small not the screen size. The SE 2nd & 3rd gen are closer in size to the standard 12/13 than the mini.

Seriously asking, you are correct that the 13 Mini is smaller than the Iphone SE 2022, not by much but the point remains, can you name some quality Android phones that have the exact dimensions or are smaller than the 13 Mini, because I have been unable to find any, thank you.

I actually ordered two - one for my wife, one for me. Having not updated since our iPhone 7+s, I thought it time for an upgrade. To say I was put off by the phone is an understatement. I opened the box, saw what it was, and didn't even take the plastic screen protector off. I showed my wife and she said she wouldn't have it. I sent them both back.

We're both in our 50s and I wouldn't recommend this to anyone in their 40s who has to wear glasses for reading. This isn't a grandparents' phone. This is a phone for a child who needs to let mom or dad know they either made it to school or home from wherever...

I left MS 10 years ago and despise the Android OS (because I'm used to iOS?) but if Apple doesn't get out of politics and actually start innovating again, I'm going to have to rethink my choices.

You ordered it without knowing that you would be going from a 5.5" screen to a 4.7" screen, is your post a joke?

Maybe that ten year old design doesn't cut it anymore when every cheap China device looks way more modern and costs a fraction of the price.
Today I learned the iPhone 6 was released in the spring of 2012 rather than the fall of 2014. Seems wikipedia and a bunch of other sites are going to need updating.

(And it's really the iPhone 8 design, as that brought the glass back - everyone else seems to think the iPhone 8 was released in the fall of 2017.)

Well said. Some people forget that there are those who do not consider a smartphone being the centre of the universe. For proper photography I have my Nikon, for newspaper reading I have my iPad, for web browsing I have some wonderful macs, for listening to music I have my hifi stereo system, for movies I have my large TV. And for content creation... I couldn't even survive the first 2 minutes doing that on a tiny phone screen, so many compromises on all ends.

Hence I'm perfectly happy with an iPhone mini.

I understand using the same part for the past 20 years to keep costs down, but they could have thrown a little something different for that market. Then again the iPhone Mini flopped. Maybe that’s not the market they should pursue.

Yeah, I have different size phones and while I like the smaller size phone like the Pixel 4a which is a 5.9" screen. I typically carry a larger Pixel like the Pixel 4a 5G or the Pixel 6. My eyesight at 63 is pretty poor and I hate wearing bifocals so with a larger screen I can see the text better on a bigger screen. But my preference is definitely a smaller phone.
