Apple won't stop until its phones are the thickness of a credit card. It's sad, but Apple seems to have a case of body dysmorphic disorder when it comes to their iPhone.

technology is evolving. what do you think tech has been trying to do since it all started. making things smaller more compact. In the future you'll be happy with all the small tech out there and how light things will be. I wouldn't worry about the thinness of devices they will get better. the future will be thin thin thin everything

so there was a rumor that Apple would release a bigger phone this year. Then there was a rumor that if it is released it would be late in the year. Now the rumor is shifting the timing to 2015. We have no official word on a phone, no official name, and no official time table. So..... it's delayed????

I guess one rumor delayed it from another rumor... :D

So wait, they designed the whole thing out, and then decided to try to find a battery to fit? What?? Seriously, enough with the freakin thinness, make it thick and last 48 hours. The weight on a tablet matters a lot, on a phone not so much.

I agree completely!

delayed launch

Amazing.....Samsung and HTC can create larger screen phones but not Apple. Maybe Apple should contract out to those companies to produce their next iPhones.

Apple is also said to be negotiating with carriers to increase the price of the iPhone 6 by $100.

Regardless of what size it is, raising the price seems like a horrible idea. As if they aren't expensive as it is...

And I agree with the thin thing... stop making it so thin it's uncomfortable to hold. Having a thin phone that needs charged every 4 hours is not good design. :)

That's not the Apple way. Delaying a phone in order to make it thinner is exactly something Steve Jobs would have done.

Well for one, Steve Jobs is dead. So it doesn't matter what he would have done. He's not running the show. Second, at 5.5" - you don't want the phone to be too thin. In my opinion, it would feel too brittle. I'm ok with not having a super slim phone. I'd prefer a phone that felt sturdy. Thanks

This is not a surprise to see a delay...

Wouldn't be the first time, but it makes sense their would be.

larger screen + bigger battery = delays :) However, i wouldn't even be surprised if there is a lawsuit over this when it comes out over the Samsung phones.

Just once, can we get through a model *without* a lawsuit ?

As the earlier poster said. How is this different from the 4.7" model? both look to be the same thickness so if there is a battery avail for the 4.7.................. well you have almost another inch of room in the 5.7 so whats the problem? I believe this story is click bait myself.

Regardless of Apple's obsession with thin, do you really believe that's what happened? And why are we only hearing about this with the rumored 5.5" device? Presumably Apple's obsession with thin would extend to the rumored 4.7" device as well, yes?

Seems weird to call the larger iPhone the iPhone air, no?

iPhone Air? No thanks. iPhone 6 is OK for me.

The 'Air' monicker to reference a different SKU makes no sense at all anyway.

For the iPad Air - OK, I don't like it, but it's just a one-off for a new model that is much thinner and lighter. It's not like they split the iPad in to 'iPad' and 'iPad Air'.

For a premium iPhone line - No. All iPhones are supposed to be Airs. They are all supposed to make no sacrifices on the path to thinness and lightness. They are all ultra-portable devices.

Even the MacBook Air is struggling to make sense these days. Once upon a time it was novel because it lacked a DVD drive and used SSD storage. Now the MacBook Pro does that. The MacBook Air now is just a non-retina MacBook Pro; similarly, people who want a Retina MBA should buy a MBP.

Why do this iPhone 6 stories always say that it is expected to have a Touch ID figerprint sensor? Isn't that obvious? I bet it is also expected to have a camera flash and a screen.

Is there some doubt that the iPhone 6 will have Touch ID for some reason??

Has anyone notices in the renderings: Where are the antennas:confused:

Metal phones need plastic separators for the antennas!

The pictured phone for the article is plastic. It's a charcoal covered plastic. Look how thick the edges are. Probably iPhone 6C.

There has been quite a bit of evidence that the 4.7inch iPhone will be plastic (molds leaked etc), and the 5.5 the premium metal one.

Also note the old style single flash, vs truetone flash.

One, we have no idea if a 5.5" phone is in the cards and two, even if it is this story seems highly questionable. Apple has enough experience with batteries to know what the limitations are in terms of device thickness. And why does this story only reference the 5.5" model? One would assume if there are two devices in the pipeline the physical design would be the same (aside from screen size) like the iPads.

There is zero evidence that the new iPhone will be plastic. Some graphic designer render that looks plastic is evidence of nothing. What molds are you referring to?

I agree.

I think this story is just the analysts possible backtracking that they jumped the gun on the 5.5" story and we'll likely not see a 5.5" iphone this year.

I'm all for moving to larger size devices. a 4.7" iPhone might actually get me to switch to iPhone.

but a 5.5" phone, just doesn't quite make sense to me. Not from apple. Not yet.

While the Phablet market is doing very well, it's still not the "core" smartphone market. That has shifted towards the ~5" market. Apple will likely dive in here first.

As phones do more and more, having a reliable battery life becomes more and more important. Now, when your phone dies, you don't just lose your phone (which for many people is their only phone). You lose your camera. You lose your GPS navigator. You lose your mail and messaging, for many people you lose the whole internet. You lose your alarm clock. You lose your calendar, reminders, and contacts of everyone you know. You lose your calculator. You lose your entertainment. You lose your books. You lose your writing tools. You lose your music. You lose your language translator.

It might be overstating it a bit to say you lose your whole life, but it's getting there. Having a shoddy battery life in the name of shaving off a few millimeters of thickness is unacceptable in today's world.
