Just make battery life longer!

Don't give us that crap "it maintains it's industry leading battery life"...no! Make a new "industry leading" battery life!

What if these thinner batteries enable Apple to install more storage?
perhaps the batteries are thinner but the same output and we now have 128GB iPhones.

yeah, doubtful but slight hope.

With advances in chip technology. The components are thinner and use less power. Batteries can hold more power for their size. Imagine if apple designed a battery to fit in current iPhone 5S case with iPhone 6 components. We could get 3 days!

I wonder if it ever existed at all. Apple releasing the iPhone in two sizes seemed like a fair move, though. It would put an end to the ' x phone is better because it has a bigger screen' and we could focus more on features and user experience.

There's obviously a limit (which I think Samsung have reached) when a phone screen shouldn't get any bigger because it just can't fit in your pocket.

Doesn't Apple get that only they (and maybe just maybe a select few others) care about thinness? We don't care about how thin it is, just give us longer lasting batteries and devices... I'm sure 90% of all people would sacrifice a few mm or .mm if it meant the device would last twice as long on a charge...

Making devices as thin as possible is not innovation.

Macbook Pro is a good example - now we have non replaceable batteries and RAM. A big step backwards.

I know there's a general "war on fat", but seriously, that shouldn't apply to electronics!

Keep up with main page news.
Injection moulds.
https://www.macrumors.com/2014/04/14/iphone-6-mold-4-7/

As many sites have already posted and corrected themselves, that is not a mould of any kind... much less an injection mould. It is a jig meant to hold parts while they are in the machining process. If it were an injection mould then it wouldn't have holes in it for the substances that you are injecting to seep out...

The potential problem I see is weight.
Judging by the part leaks the iPhone appears to be larger than other phones with the same display size. Putting in a larger battery in a phone that has a larger display with larger than competition bezel could make a heavy phone.

Better headline:

"Battery Technology Not Yet Advanced Enough for Apple to Make 5.5" iPhone a Reality"

This isn't "delayed" because it was never happening. Not a chance that Apple develops a product for lunch and THEN delays it because the battery isn't working out.

Oh man guys. I'm really worried touch ID won't be included in the iPhone 6. It's only "expected" to be included on every macrumors article.

They can delay the 5.5-incher all they want. I just hope we see something by June.

By "June" you mean WWDC and "something" you mean more than just software, right?

I'm just excited to see next gen iOS and OSX but new hardware would be great too :)

Margins... has nothing to do with making room for anything. The reason that we don't have phones with larger storage or even bigger screens by now is because Apple couldn't make them without sacrificing margins; has nothing to do with technical capabilities to make them...

It is the reason that despite falling sales and competitors like Samsung shipping as many or more phones than them, Apple has all the profit share... They care more about margins than they do about tech. It's what keeps them thriving even with a smaller marketshare and that's never going to change. So unless the price of memory drops significantly we aren't going to see additional memory.

Now, there are rumors that Apple is asking a $100 premium for the iPhone 6. IPS displays of 4.7 to 5.5" usually cost around $60 instead of the usual $41'ish that the 5S screen costs. So that's a $20 increase on Apples production side yet they are passing a $100 increase to either the carriers or consumers. They've increased their margins by $80 which gives them room to play a bit with other things so maybe they will give larger memory finally for the iPhone 6 and take maybe except only a $60 to $70 margin increase. That would be great... but knowing them, they care more about the margins than anything else and with sales continuing to decline year-over-year these increased margins will still help them to be able to tout that they don't care about selling the most phones since they still take the lions share of the profits.

An iPhone that you could use moderately for 2-3 days with having to use a charging case would be amazing.

Do you guys go in the Amazon rainforest or somewhere that you can't plug the phone on the evenings and charge it? I like the phone to be even thinner then it is and one full day battery life without struggling would be enough for me.

Sigh, I've had enough of "it's thin enough already" comments.

If the industry had listened to you guys we'd all still have 25mm thick phones instead of the < 8mm we have today.

As soon as you pick up an iPhone Air when it's released you'll change your minds, just like you have done every other year since 2007.

I dont think anyone is complaining that they dont want a thinner phone.

Everyone wants a thinner phone

Not everyone wants their battery life compromised by going thinner.

years ago, when phones were thicker, we were getting 2+ days off a charge. Today, we're getting 8-10 hours.

at some point, For over Function becomes a detriment to actual use. Constantly going thinner by sacrificing battery life starts to hit a point of diminishing returns.

If Apple can figure out a way of making a 4mm thin phone while maintaining a 1day battery life, nobody would say "stop making it thinner"

but Apple (nor really anyone) can manage that. We don't have the battery tech for that. So, Why are they shaving battery still to save 1 or 2mm?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think battery life has actually decreased since the introduction of the original iPhone. In fact I think it's actually got marginally better with each iteration.

Difference is now of course we're all using them more and more so it appears to have shortened.
