If it's true, that's too bad as I'd like to try both before using my upgrade later this year.
This story doesn't sit well with me. Why would they need a 2mm battery? For instance, inside the iPad it's just a big battery with the parts that actually run the thing shoved in a corner. I would think if the new iPhone is 6mm thick they could do something similar. Unless they're going ridiculously thin. In which case I'll have to constantly wear leather gloves so I don't cut myself.
So far the leaks aren't impressing me, much like the iPhone 5S which is the first iPhone I've skipped. Sure I'll upgrade to the 6 because I'm due for an upgrade so it won't cost very much. But really, what else can you do with the smart phone form factor at this point? Either the pace of technology is finally stalling out, or we're about to make a huge jump to something else.
I guess we have to ask ourselves is what is the endgame here? I guess if we want phones that fold up like sheets of paper then we have to continue this march to thinness. Or is something like that even usable? In the future will GUI even exist? I'm not so sure. Will future generations wonder why we even had to use external devices at all? The trend is simplification. Remove the need for a layer between information and the brain. Will we just be able to search for something by thinking it, and have that information instantly available in our brain without having to read it? The human brain is an untapped resource with massive storage and processing capability. Will the internet of the future be localized to each persontheir interests, skills needed for their job, etcmaking each person essentially a server that holds a fraction, and yet significant portion of all human knowledge? If others need to access new information, would they just tap into the human cloud network and have anything instantly available? That's the kind of fringe future thinking that is all at once terrifying and exciting. I enjoy entertaining the benefits, but am horrified by the potential consequences. The progressive side of me that wants access to near infinite knowledge loves it, but the conservative side of me that is afraid of hacking, government intrusions, and corporations being able to further invade my privacy hates it. And will we end up with two classes of human in the far futureone who is augmented, the other who is all natural?
Well that got out of hand quickly. iPhone 6: Thin and fancy. Neat.
