This is just stupid at this point. Most of us will have had to transition to a Mac Studio and display before that happens. I was holding out for an imac but like holding out til this fall…
I agree they're working too slowly. They're taking too many resources from the Mac for vision and the car. Both of those products are completely uninteresting to me

This should be released in 2024. Any later, and it's getting dumb. I'd expect it to start at $3999–$4999 with an M3 Max: 1TB storage, 32GB Memory. Basically, a $2,000–$3,000 premium over the Mac Studio, and for that $2,000–$3,000, you get a high-refresh-rate, 6K HDR display.

I would seriously consider buying a 30" iMac to replace my 27" iMac. I'm not interested in the current iMacs because I don't want a smaller screen. A Studio Display + Mac Studio or Mac Mini setup costs a lot. So I think there is definitely a gap in the Mac lineup that a 30" iMac would fill well.

Wish list for redesigned iMacs:
  • Allow vertical and horizontal adjustment of the screen.
  • Follow the design philosophy of the current MBA and MBP and make functionality and connectivity more important than a thin enclosure.
  • Make Ethernet standard on all configurations.
  • Make the full set of ports standard on all configurations.
  • Don't remove the headphone jack!
I agree, though curious on what you consider "full set of ports" because honestly I feel like the only thing it should add compared to the current 24" iMac (the one with the ethernet port on the power supply) is an SD card slot. I'm guessing people would like at least 1 or 2 USB-A ports but I don't know if I see that happening. I think the SD card slot is all that's missing.

You're comparing VisionOS which is an extension of iOS, to a Mac running MacOS. The multitasking is quite different between the two as well as the application depth of interfacing how it is used. So the price comparison is not really a good example IMHO. :)
I don’t think it’s fair to say that visionOS is an extension of iOS - all of Apple’s operation systems are the same OS at their core as they all run on Darwin. I would argue that visionOS seems to be built for multitasking in a way that iOS and iPadOS never were, in part because it’s not limited by the smaller screen size of an iPhone or iPad. I could see visionOS apps also becoming more sophisticated and closer to the level of Mac apps because they‘re not required to be touch-centric in their designs.

This is not to say visionOS won’t be hobbled in other ways a la iOS/iPadOS - app store, limited file system access, etc. But it seems like it will land in a bit of a middle ground between the constrained multitasking of the iPad and the open-ish environment of the Mac.

I wonder if it'll come with wheels.

On a serious note, I don't understand why Apple can't pull another Mac Pro move, and crank out a 27 inch iMac when they update the current iMac and use the same guts in both. Minimal effort required, just like the new Mac Pro.

Either the iMac is a poor seller why they have taken this long term to update it; engineering resources stretched thin because of all the projects they are working on; or marketing using strategies for consumers to spend more. Mac Mini base model plus Studio Display more money or even a Studio makes a great upsell.

This 30 inch iMac is likely gonna cost a lot too, I’m seeing a starting price around 2,599. You are playing for the display which will be equivalent of 27 inch student display, includes a web cam, and basically a Mac Mini combined.

Hope so. My 2017 can't upgrade to Sonoma and I don't want a 24" M1. Spoiled by the 27" iMac and my 30" ACD.
Yes, the 30" ACD has spoiled me. Unfortunately, it is not Retina, it has issues with Apple Silicon Macs, and my particular one now has significant mage retention.

However, I would love an exact pixel doubled/quadrupled version of that: 30" 5120x3200 at 201 ppi would be totally amazing.

Yes! This is going to be great!

My guess:
iMac Pro
32" 6K miniLED XDR
One Color (undecided on Space Grey or Silver as basically everything now is silver i.e. Studio Display and ProDisplayXDR color scheme)
Comes with peripherals selections exactly like iMac (not color, but trackpad, mouse, or both and upgrade to full size keyboard)
512GB SSD (matching MacBook Pro)
16GB RAM (matching MacBook Pro)
Pro and Max Variants
I'd lean again Ultra variant - but who knows, it's a big area maybe it will work

Price: I'd like to say $2,999, but with the display, probably if we're lucky starts at $3,499 or more.

Yes, an SD card slot would be welcome, as well as at least 3 USB-C ports, at least 1 USB-B port, and Ethernet on the machine, not the power brick (plus perhaps HDMI, for maximum connectivity). In any case, I’m wishing here…who knows what Apple will end up doing.

I've been chugging along on my 2017 iMac waiting for a newer iMac. The 24 inch screen isn't big enough to serve my needs, and I prefer not having the clutter with a mini+monitor situation. But like the above poster, my patience is getting thinner every time Apple has an event and the iMac receives no upgrade.
It's ironic that the all-in-one product line that originally pulled Apple from the ashes has been allowed to languish for this long. When was the last update for the 24" model? Has there even been one since 2021?

Apple leadership should be forced to subsist and buy only Apple products on under $65,000 a year so that they can experience the neglect of the average American.

Same kind of. I had a 27” 2017 but went with the Mac Mini M2 Pro cos I was fed up of waiting. I won’t be replacing the MM until 2026 probably

While I have loved all my iMac 5Ks, I need the ability to connect both of my displays to a Mac and a PC so I will be replacing my 2020 iMac 5K with an M2 Mac Studio and likely pairing it with an Apple Studio Display.

My guess is if this larger "iMac Pro" happens, Apple will use the 6K LG "IPS Black" panel that is in the Dell U3224KB so it would still be 60Hz and Full-Array LED backlit. Anything fancier and we'll be talking 2023 Mac Pro level pricing.

Very much agreed, Apple needs bigger iMacs out this year.

And for God's sake no MagSafe! It's crucial on a laptop but has no business on a desktop. Bonus if they drop the current iMac power brick as well.

The only unfortunately is that $3999–$4999 would be for a 27" machine, painful but those of us waiting would probably buy. A 32" model will be north of $7000.

Big Imac Pro always was my favorite. But smoky Display and dead HDD divorced us. Maybe ;-)

How are you being neglected? You don’t have to buy Apple, you don’t even need to buy a new computer
Not sure I said I personally was being neglected, I'm not in that range of salary, but most Americans are, and it continues to get worse, while all of their prices continue to skyrocket.

The power connector on the iMac is not the same as MagSafe on a MacBook Pro. It's not even called MagSafe BTW.

If you pull hard enough on the 24" iMac power cable to remove it, that would probably have pulled out the power cable on the previous 27" iMac as well.

Yeh, but it’s just a rumor, I think it will be along the lines of iMac 24”, it will be limited to how much Unified memory.
There are too many Macs now, including Mac mini, Mac Studio, Mac Pro: tower and rack. Also, sales of ioda Oro will slice off some off the Mac line up.
I have waited too long for an iMac, now I got the Mac studio and Apple Display.
