blah blah blah
So Apple may not pay for these displays, but the consumers will (potential for PWM and $$$ hike)?
Sheesh. Guess I'll stick to my plan of buying new Macs on sale (be they newer models or older, IF, there's no issues with older models).
Considering how Tim Cook price his products this would be a scary thought. I'm sure he's going to double the price no doubt and Apple is not shy about it.
Have the longevity issues with OLED been solved yet? I hang on to my laptops longer than I do my phones.
Buy a mini, pick your own solution
Why would Samsung agree to this? Why not take the penalty as Apple has nowhere else to get their screens from anyway?

Because they are a business who wants to increase revenues by selling more of their products?
A company has responsibilities to its stockholders to create profits and by not supplying Apple with their OLED panels you leave the table open for LG to take the money .
Pentile has been Samsung's solution to blue diode exhaustion, but it only looks any good at PPIs of at least 400. Really that sort of pixel density is out of the question for something 12.9-13.3" in size and above, due to the ridiculously high resolution it would need to be to get there. I can only assume other OLED gaming laptops use RGB OLEDs (as many TVs do; though this seems to be an LG specialty). For their televisions, LG suggests they will last 50 years before reducing in brightness by half, though the blue diodes in these are really big compared to what you'd need in a laptop or tablet.Have the longevity issues with OLED been solved yet? *Gulp!* A sharp pain just ran through my chest at that thought. Stop frightening me like that!First MacBook Pro with a 5-digit price?
So we end up with inferior OLED (compared to Micro LED) because Tim over did the orders?
This company has changed beyond all recognition.
You don't nee an OLED iPad to reduce eye strain or blue light. Apple's had two features for a few years now which reduce blue light & eye strain without needing an OLED. They're called "True Tone" and "Night Shift".Man, been waiting for an OLED iPad for ages! After reading about the potentially retina damaging affects of the blue light most LEDs emit (especially from cellphones and monitors) I’ve purchased low blue light monitors (still not perfect) and purchased a used iPhone X to use as a serious computing device as OLED is supposed to be significantly better for the health of our eyes.
Bring on the OLED!
It's amazing how short sighted and ignorant the original question was. Holy.Because they are a business who wants to increase revenues by selling more of their products?
Also this is the first I heard that OLED are more energy efficient than LEDs. Thought it was the other way around...
Bit different spin to it. Keep same thickness but take the extra room from the thinner display and beef up the frame!Good. My 5.9mm thin iPad Pro is way too thick.
That's pretty bad. Really shows how fast iPhone sales have been declining in just the past year alone. Compare Q1 2018 to 2019 and it's like a 30% decline in volume.
