Remind me why Apple even pursued OLED displays? According to Apple, their LCD displays were every bit as good. And what's the latest on micro-LCD?

blah blah blah

You're completely right. Instead of Apple owing Samsung hundreds of millions of dollars, Samsung should if anything owe Apple a rebate because they sold so many more phones than they agreed upon /s

Burn-in can be fixed in mac like Apple did fix it on iOS with non stop microns movements of everything
The problem is the blue pixels in macs
My macs are running almost 5-10 hours/day so in 2 years the blue pixels are washed out

Considering how Tim Cook price his products this would be a scary thought. I'm sure he's going to double the price no doubt and Apple is not shy about it.

Yeah, really. I can't wait for another 20% price hike on the iPads.

Have the longevity issues with OLED been solved yet? I hang on to my laptops longer than I do my phones.

According to the tests I have read this year, burn in seems to have been tamed on the latest TVs and laptops. But, I am not sure if that is what you meant longevity.

Buy a mini, pick your own solution

I've thought about that, but the Mini has bluetooth, WiFi and possible sound issues. Experienced the bluetooth and wifi issues myself at the Apple Store. I wanted a Mini badly, but cannot see spending that kind of money for those issues plus potential T2 kernel panics. Not to mention researching and buying an eGPU too. Shame since I really liked it and the new Ultrafine 23" display.

I am probably going to stick with iMacs as much I'd like to change my set up unless Apple seriously get their stuff together and ease up on the pricing.

Why would Samsung agree to this? Why not take the penalty as Apple has nowhere else to get their screens from anyway?

I see you have the correct answer below.

Because they are a business who wants to increase revenues by selling more of their products?

A company has responsibilities to its stockholders to create profits and by not supplying Apple with their OLED panels you leave the table open for LG to take the money .

Indeed. And let's not forget that the current LCD on the iPad Pro is really great, Apple could easily continue to use it instead.

Pentile has been Samsung's solution to blue diode exhaustion, but it only looks any good at PPIs of at least 400. Really that sort of pixel density is out of the question for something 12.9-13.3" in size and above, due to the ridiculously high resolution it would need to be to get there. I can only assume other OLED gaming laptops use RGB OLEDs (as many TVs do; though this seems to be an LG specialty). For their televisions, LG suggests they will last 50 years before reducing in brightness by half, though the blue diodes in these are really big compared to what you'd need in a laptop or tablet.

Honestly, I'd rather Apple not put an OLED in a 16" MBP. All that'll do is jack up the price. I no longer see the difference between the screen in my iPhone XS Max and my old iPhone 6+. Don't make me get a damned mortgage just to afford my next laptop

So we end up with inferior OLED (compared to Micro LED) because Tim over did the orders?

This company has changed beyond all recognition.

Uh, Micro LEDs don't exist in mass production now - and probably won't for a good while to come - at least not in tablet and bigger sizes.

Man, been waiting for an OLED iPad for ages! After reading about the potentially retina damaging affects of the blue light most LEDs emit (especially from cellphones and monitors) I’ve purchased low blue light monitors (still not perfect) and purchased a used iPhone X to use as a serious computing device as OLED is supposed to be significantly better for the health of our eyes.

Bring on the OLED!
You don't nee an OLED iPad to reduce eye strain or blue light. Apple's had two features for a few years now which reduce blue light & eye strain without needing an OLED. They're called "True Tone" and "Night Shift".

Seems like a good solution to the backlight voltage shorting to the CPU issue in the 13" MBP.

That's pretty bad. Really shows how fast iPhone sales have been declining in just the past year alone. Compare Q1 2018 to 2019 and it's like a 30% decline in volume.

Add to that iPhone 2019 = DOA

I'm actually glad, Apple needs to be brought a peg or two or three!!!
