I wonder if it will be the same "optimized" for the iPhone iOS that currently is running on the iPads-with lots of empty space and poorly scaled up UI?

For a larger iPad to be seriously useful they need to make adjustments to iOS. When I bought my iPad air I was considering the galaxy tab 3 2014 edition, one of the features I liked about the galaxy was being able to snap apps to each side of the screen. Running two apps side by side seriously improves production.

Obviously I went with the iPad, but If I was buying a larger tablet I'd want more of a desktop experience such as is available on the galaxy. Hell, even Microshaft are offering a full desktop OS in their tablets. I love iOS but there is room for improvement.

Do NOT get rid of the 11" Macbook Air under any circumstance. The 13" is too big and the iPad is horrible for real work.

It's going to be a disaster........

According to people on these forums. It's must be at least 50% if not 75% of iPhone users who say any size increase would be wrong, and the current size is correct, unlike larger unmanageable Android phone.

Given this fact, based upon many remarks on this forum area, sales will be much lower of any new larger model don't you think?

Here's the deal - if you go by the people here, the iPad mini would never have been released. The people here clung to Job's remark about 7" tablets being a No Go. But the second the mini was released, the same folks gushed all over themselves to say how innovative and perfect the 7" mini was.

As log as apple offers the choice in size, like the iPad, then both can be happy. It's when apple dictates what people like(only 9.7" tablet), that you run into people being really negative and antsy.

Embrace choice. I know that as an apple fan, apple has done the best to beat that out of us. But trust me, it's not scary to choose 1 of 2 screen sizes.

Well said!

Why you poor chap? Do you have bad eyesight? Or Giant pockets?

Large phones are for girls with handbags or men with Size 'issues'

Or it's to "right size" it for a guy with larger hands.

Small hands, small screen....big hands, big screen. Maybe only people with big hands understand this.:D

No it doesn't.

Current MBA is 1440x900. A fair bit short of 1440p. In fact, not even 1080p.

1920x1080 = 1080p (most devices, except some Apple devices)
2560x1440 = 1440p (27" iMac)

Sorry! Mixed up the horizontal and vertical pixels. You're right that 1440P would make sense.

You're absolutely right, if Apple makes an iPhone with the same screen size as an S4, it'll be the greatest thing since the last greatest thing.

In my opinion the MacBook Air as we know it will be phased out and replaced with an ARM based system. There's a reason apple stressed the desktop class comments about their latest CPU and rewrote the iWork suite which I think is to bring better compatibility with ARM. They might even do the same with the Mac mini. This could also be the nail in the coffin for AppleScript.

Just my 2 cents.

More uneducated guesses from reliable sources, yay!

It's the Nostradamus effect. Make enough predictions and some are bound to come true. They've only been claiming a larger iPad is coming since shortly after the original one was released in April of 2010.

When is DigiTimes ever correct? The stuff here is laughable. Apple is going to release a new phone in May before WWDC which is in June? Or is Apple moving WWDC up to April then? Makes no sense. And this larger iPad is supposed to target the educational market yet they claim it might replace one of Apple's most popular Macs? Huh? Again makes no sense.

larger screen iPhone

Look, lets stop the constant looking back at the past when it comes to releases of products. Just because Apple always has a Fall release of an iPhone in the past does not mean they need to keep to this schedule. If the damn large screen iPhone is ready next month then by all means release it. I can't stand all this quirky schedule keeping crap.:(

I like the iPad, I would like a bigger sized iPad too. And it would be a perfect companion to an iPad mini. In replace of my iPad 3. Sofar I like what I read.

But: never replace the MBA 11" with iPad. That's two different machines. Or can the iPad run now XCode ?

Until Ming Kuo reports on it, it isn't happening.

1. The sources for this rumour are wrong.
2. Apple will make this and is 100% wrong in doing so as too many SKUs are very bad for Apple as proved in the 90's.

Those are the only two options here. And in either case someone is wrong.

Because choice is always a bad thing

They have the cash to do it. Who cares? You'll still buy it.

Oh really.. what size issues exactly is that? My eyesight is quite fine and I need to cringe everytime I try to read something on my iPhone. Too damn small and it causes eyestrain for prolonged use.

Can't see any reason why would I need giant pocket or handbag for a larger phone. Even my friends' SGS3 or HTC One fits most pocket just fine. So maybe it's you who have "size" issue?

No, sorry, my iPhone 5s fits well in my trouser pocket. I've tried, briefly, to get a SGS3 in there but it's just uncomfortable. A phone is something I carry all the time. As phones got smaller I got to a eureka moment when I got a motorola phone that was small enough I forgot I had it in my pocket.

I don't look good in gangsta pants or with thigh pockets so I don't want a bigger phone than I have at the moment. I for one won't be getting a larger iPhone. If they replace the current size with a larger version without at least having the equivalent of a 5c that's the current size then I'm out.

I use my phone mainly for email, text and occasionally
phone. I have aniPad for reading anything that's more than 2 paragraphs long ;-

Dammit apple I just got ipad air. Now I got to start saving up for iphone 6.

If the rumors are true about a bigger screen iphone I hope it's no bigger than 5 inches. I had a note 2 and 5.5 was just a little too big. But my gs4 is 5.0 which is a good size.

I don't see ipad pro being used outside of businesses. Unless they make a osx and ios hybrid that gives you a semi desktop experience.

LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

I love when people make up numbers from thin air with the evidence proving them wrong right in front of their faces.

iPad Mini , iPad Air , iPad Pro = Fragmentation

Cannibalisation of Macbook Air?

Screen sizes don't create fragmentation if the scaling is done well. The issue with what you're probably referring to is a dozen different companies sharing the same software for dozens of different phones / many using different OS versions...

The timelines are all wrong.

iOS allows developers to create apps that automatically grow as screen size increases, but almost nobody does that. Instead, they do layouts based on specific screen sizes: iPhone portrait, iPhone landscape, iPad portrait, iPad landscape. If large iPhones are coming, Apple will be dropping serious hints at WWDC "You know, you should turn on that autogrow feature, have it grow for different sized screens".

Or the screen resolutions of any larger iphone or ipad could simply remain a multiple of existing resolutions. For example, a hypothetical ipad pro could sport a resolution of 3072x2304 (triple the original 1024x768) or 4096x3072 (double retina). Same with the iphone.

That said, unless we see some custom pro apps (say a touch optimized version of Final Cut Pro), I don't see the point of a larger ipad.
