Look, lets stop the constant looking back at the past when it comes to releases of products. Just because Apple always has a Fall release of an iPhone in the past does not mean they need to keep to this schedule. If the damn large screen iPhone is ready next month then by all means release it. I can't stand all this quirky schedule keeping crap.:(

Yeah ipad releases use to be in march now they are in November.

It's easy to guess. I wonder why all these publications never bother to acknowledge they are wrong when their guesses are wrong.

Why wait if the larger screen is so important to you ?

Stupid statement. Because that poster obviously values both a larger display AND the iOS operating system. You are the type of person who makes forums less respectable and full of worthless **** content.

No, sorry, my iPhone 5s fits well in my trouser pocket. I've tried, briefly, to get a SGS3 in there but it's just uncomfortable. A phone is something I carry all the time. As phones got smaller I got to a eureka moment when I got a motorola phone that was small enough I forgot I had it in my pocket.

I don't look good in gangsta pants or with thigh pockets so I don't want a bigger phone than I have at the moment. I for one won't be getting a larger iPhone. If they replace the current size with a larger version without at least having the equivalent of a 5c that's the current size then I'm out.

I use my phone mainly for email, text and occasionally
phone. I have aniPad for reading anything that's more than 2 paragraphs long ;-

If you really want something in compact package then feature phone might be suitable for you?

I also have an ipad for comfortable reading but I stick to my phone for get and go. And after I use ipad, I feel iOS on iphone is too cramped and tiny, thanks to its minuscule display it's not that different from owning a dumbphone except maybe it has decent camera.

Never mind what Jobs would say - he isn't at Apple anymore. Apple under Tim Cook hasn't ever released anything of interest in the first half of the year! Thus, not a chance of a May release for an iPhone 6.

Although, if they do that, I'll be all over it. I'm on an iPhone 4S that has gone through over 800 charge cycles and now only lasts ~8 hours with the screen off. With the screen on and me doing stuff, it drops to ~2.5 hours.

I'm no analyst, but I predict that Apple will continue their pattern of waiting a full year (or slightly more) before releasing a new iPhone.

Know what? Scratch that. I AM an analyst. Pay me.

Well I have this crazy thought.

What if apple release bigger phone alongside bigger resolution, ie 720p or maybe 1080p and the bigger ipad also would have double 720p or 1080p
So that would make the screen res set for years to come.

And the screen res of the new iphone and ipad would have the same ratio
So developers wont have the hassle to make 2 versions.

Just my 2 cent

If I don't have to be right than I could be an analyst too...

LOL? The MacBook Air is the best selling Mac model - probably by a long way these days. A larger iPad is conceivable, but there's no way they'd drop the MBA from the line up.

They dropped the 17" and the plastic MBP, made an iPad mini and a plastic iPhone. All things that never were going to happen. A larger iPad is another step toward iOS and OSX convergence.

Feel free to prove it.

It's a completely different situation than the multi-SKU confusion that was the 90's. With the iPad, you have three very well defined choices. Little, Medium, Big. The Big version will likely be a good bit more expensive, and have more options (I'm hoping for a stylus digitizer, myself). It's not exactly a confusing setup for customers.

This is opposed to the 90's, when Apple, like Dell and HP now, had about 15 different laptops and desktops, and each one of those consisted of 50 very slightly different variations of the same product. That's never a good thing to do. Even I, when I know almost exactly what I want, have trouble shopping for computers through the Dell website. I couldn't imagine what it's like for someone coming in only wanting a "computer".

So no, a new size of iPad and iPhone won't lead to any customer confusion. The choices between the three would be clear and precise.

I'm still betting on eventual OSX replacement rather than convergence. Like most people here, I doubt Apple will take the MS route. They'll keep both platforms distinct, then go either/or.

Very good point. Since the iOS devices dominate, it probably will be an OSX replacement.

Probably just the announcement. 4.5" I'm hoping.
Or else Nexus 5 is probably what I'm switching to

The Nexus 5 is an excellent phone too.

Why do people still think that's happening? Apple won't make the same mistake MS did with Win8.... An OSX interface refresh? Yes, I guess with 10.10.... but I don't think they will merge them. Especially since both already base on the same kernel.

The sooner the better for a larger screen iPhone, I say. Been Android for the past several years and I am ready to come back, but the screen is the only thing holding me away for now.

Although I did just get an iPad Air, so the 4" iPhone wouldn't be too terrible, but I see them at work now and think how ridiculously small they are.

Never mind what Jobs would say - he isn't at Apple anymore. Apple under Tim Cook hasn't ever released anything of interest in the first half of the year! Thus, not a chance of a May release for an iPhone 6.

I don't think anyone has said it would be the iPhone 6. Just a larger iPhone. iPhone 5x?

How is a 12.9" iPad targeted at education? First of all, having a display near UHD is going to drive up the price at least $200. Then you also have to put in killer processors to drive that display. Also, as displays get larger they can break easier. Sounds more like a Pro machine, not something that a second grader is going to tote around.

My hope is that if Apple makes an iPad Pro that they also make one in a smaller size. I'm contemplating switching to mirror-less and would like a smaller Pro to go in the bag. Something that has great color reproduction, can be color balanced and runs Aperture or preferably Lightroom.

Maybe convergence wasn't the right choice of wording. Perhaps at some point in the future Apple will end up with a single touch operating system to cover all of their devices.

Yup. More people know about and use iOS, and Apple has more control over the platform as a whole. Even though I doubt it'll happen anytime soon, I do see it replacing at least the Macbooks at some point, once the iPads are able to match then for capabilities, and it becomes redundant to keep them both around.

Things I'd like to see

A large retina iPad with the guts of a macbookpro and regular OS X. 1 TB ssd. one TB port one USB3.1 and one magsafe or lightning for power. or just put th damn screen on the macbook pro.

Didn't the iPhone 4 come out in July? I really hope this is true; I dumped my iPhone 5 for a Nexus 5 and at this point I can't wait for a new iPhone so I can go back to iOS.

So, it was true

The white unibody MacBook was replaced with the MacBook Air, and they still offered the white unibody MacBook to the education market well after it was officially pulled from the general public. There is no way Apple will replace their entry level laptop unless they are making some sort of hybrid device that comes in at the same price. That seems extremely unlikely, though.

An iOS device is not a replacement for an OS X computer for many users. Apple has also said repeatedly that iOS and OS X will borrow from each other, but they won't merge. Apple even stated that the new naming convention for OS X will take them another 10 years into the future.

So, two iPhones and a Hybrid?

So would they still release an iPhone in September and follow those rumors of two iPhones a year? I really doubt it, but the iPad rumors sounds plausible although I agree with some posters here that is may actually be Apple's first hybrid MacBook Air/iPad Pro.

And the first plastic iPhones happened on Steve Jobs watch.

How heavy?

I'm just thinking that such a large iPad will be pretty hefty. The Macbook Air (or any other laptop ever) benefits from the displacement of battery from display, allowing the device to "hold itself" per se. An iPad this big won't make do with a Smart Cover... but maybe Apple will design a Mensa Cover.
