plot twist: the bigger iphone and bigger ipad are one and the same, with a 4K 13" screen. beat that, samsung.
Would make a great productive tool for the areas in which something like that would be useful. Arts, design, medical sciences, for example; all those could really use a bigger iPad.
Sorry, but that's never going to happen.
There's a nerdy kind of attraction to having one OS straddle the range of devices (like what Google and Microsoft are trying to do), but it's a trap! Different devices work best with different user interfaces.
Apple have done it pretty well - the XNU kernel is used both on OSX and iOS, which runs Darwin, containing common frameworks like Foundation, Core Animation, AV Foundation, Core Data, etc. The two OSes diverge from there, with iOS using the touch-optimised UIKit framework for UI controls (things like switches, etc) and OSX using the mouse-optimised (although slightly decrepit) AppKit framework for its UI controls.
The AppKit/UIKit difference is the thing that keeps 90% of Mac apps from being compatible with iOS and vice versa. It would be easy as pie for Apple to actually "unify" these systems by porting the missing frameworks to each platform (in fact, they already have a Mac version of UIKit - it's bundled with the iOS Simulator).
Apple don't want these systems to be unified. There's no time when it would be better to have a little touch app on your Mac desktop, or a mouse app on your iPhone or iPad, over an app natively designed for that platform.
New iPhone in May is ridiculous, at least let people have the 5S for a year before it becomes "out of date".
Im happy with the current size of the iphone 5S. But i'd be lying if I said I wasnt really excited to see what an iphone with a bigger (wider) screen will look like. Bring it on.
Here's the deal - if you go by the people here, the iPad mini would never have been released. The people here clung to Job's remark about 7" tablets being a No Go. But the second the mini was released, the same folks gushed all over themselves to say how innovative and perfect the 7" mini was.
As log as apple offers the choice in size, like the iPad, then both can be happy. It's when apple dictates what people like(only 9.7" tablet), that you run into people being really negative and antsy.
Embrace choice. I know that as an apple fan, apple has done the best to beat that out of us. But trust me, it's not scary to choose 1 of 2 screen sizes.
Don't know about Jobs, but I wouldn't allow this.
I read the article more closely, and here is what it says about a larger iPad replacing the 11" MacBook Air:
So, there is no insider information here. Note that is says "sources speculated". I highly doubt Apple is sharing any information about future plans with DigiTimes' sources.
I am also thinking that Apple might keep the 11" MacBook Air and discontinue the 13" MacBook Air, since there is already a 13" MacBook Pro for people who need that size screen. But this has nothing to do with Apple possibly introducing a larger iPad.
Apple is also said to be examining the possibility of replacing the 11-inch MacBook Air with the larger iPad.
Or the screen resolutions of any larger iphone or ipad could simply remain a multiple of existing resolutions.
Really, the Airs are the one line that are most in danger of being absorbed by the others. Even if tablets aren't The Future, the 11" Air could easily be replaced with a regular sized iPad in a couple of years. A couple more spec bumps, and some higher end apps, and it's basically just as good.
The 13" Air? With the 13" Pro being only slightly larger, but a helluva lot better overall, it's a wonder it's selling as well as it is. Right now, I think of it as the option for people who really really really want to save a couple hundred bucks. If Apple were to make a very slightly thinner, very slightly cheaper Pro, the 13" Air would be...just...there.
Yep.
Any rumor more than six months out that lists some company Apple rarely or never works with on a large scale as the supplier should be taken with a salt lick. Double if it comes from Digitimes. It's generally an attempt to pump the other company by association

As Apple says, better they do it than someone else
May!?! darn, I just got the 5s, oh well gotta start saving up again then I assume.
