When you can’t figure out how to release an updated HomePod mini after five years, just settle on selling ads. Great work Apple.
Apple started selling user data when they made a deal with google a long time ago. The whole bs about Apple focused on privacy and security is a farce!Who said Apple is selling user data. Is user data being sold due to ads in the App Store?
Anonymous data is still selling user data! The incentive is to get a message out there. But we’ll have to see. Is there any such a thing as anonymous data?
So before Apple “made the deal” no user data passed between Apple and google even when users typed in “google dot com”?Apple started selling user data when they made a deal with google a long time ago. The whole bs about Apple focused on privacy and security is a farce!
Since the user is not known it is not user data. It is data.Anonymous data is still selling user data!
You sound like an Apple lawyer playing the semantics game.Since the user is not known it is not user data. It is data.
Because people are “criticizing it wrong”.You sound like an Apple lawyer playing the semantics game.
Going by your logic you probably believe Google doesn't sell user data either. They monetize it.So before Apple “made the deal” no user data passed between Apple and google even when users typed in “google dot com”?
They do make money from their users —lots of it. Adding ads to Maps is just a cheap shot at grabbing more revenue. Ads aren't adding any value to users. If they don’t make money from their users, Apple would have imploded. And Steve is deceased.
💯% correct.Since the user is not known it is not user data. It is data.
Semantics refers to meaning. Far too many people glibly say, “That’s just semantics!” not realizing it means the underlying concepts, precepts, and principles involved, and is not mere word play. You sound like an Apple lawyer playing the semantics game.
What other map application doesn’t serve up ads? But yeah it’s not Apple, google or Waze.I will simply use another map application. Hell, I'll go back to paper!
I imagine that Google Maps already does this, as well as track the crap out of you and sell it to anyone wanting to pay.Google Maps or Waze then
Agreed. Apple shows me everything but the specific app I'm looking for. Deceptive. It's maddening to type the actual name of the App or company that you specifically want only to have to scroll down and hope the one you need is obvious. If Maps does this crap, I'll find an alternative.
Would you agree that it follows that a more valuable company must then offer more value than a less valuable company?Of course. Quality is a subjective term. But value can be objectively measured based off results. Either a company makes money or it doesn't. If a company is as valuable as Apple, we can extrapolate from that there is intrinsic value in the products and services that they offer.
I actually prefer Apple Maps because I find their transit info and routing more accurate, visually more appealing, and better driving directions.Maybe they need the ads to support the lousy app. Curious how many of the critical comments here are from people who actually use Apple Maps. In terms of monthly active iOS/MacOS users, Googple Maps & Google Waze have a 70-80% market share and across all devices has a 92% market share. I use Google Maps on my iPhone and Mac (except Naver Maps in Korea).
On a global level, Google Maps is so much better in so many ways, like transit routing, offline map support, street view, multistop trip planning (terrific when vacationing, you can even shuffle up to 10 locations to optimize a walk to various places), terrian maps (better for hiking), etc.
