How can sales for the week be not what is expected if the device hasn't been on sale for a week yet.

And I have no problem with the S5 not being a great seller, if it's indeed, a fact. I was just hoping you'd link to an article that had more credibility - or at least reported the information more accurately.

The sad reality is that there probably isn't such a place. Cnet, TheVerge, gizmodo, Forbes, WSJ, etc. are all compromised. I trust Dilger and Phillip Elmer-DeWitt but it's often FUDbusting. Samsung has a well established criminal history, which is well worth keeping in mind whenever you read a glowing review by some schmuck with overdue rent.

"...the iPhone 6 is shaping up to be 2014's blockbuster handset."

Pretty nutty expectation... since it hasn't even been ANNOUNCED yet.

My 2-year Verizon contract for my iPhone 5 ends in November. Was excited about the iPhone 6 and was going to buy it no questions asked; if this is true i'm going to wait for the price to drop.

Like others said, better increase the base memory.

If you do it on contract, I suspect there's no issue here. I think if there is any truth in this rumor, it might be that Apple is trying to squeeze $100 more in the behind-the-scenes subsidy out of the players griping about the "expensive" subsidy already in place. For those willing to finance a phone, I'm sure the 6(s) will be free* soon after initial release.

Ok - well I'm sold. I will never believe any article or review about Samsung that shows that they are anything other than evil. Because clearly everyone is on their payroll. You convinced me.

Apple seems to be going for threes. Three iPads, three MacBooks, three iPhones. Makes sense as a strategy, since it covers all budgets and size preferences.

Here are my predictions for the mobile lineup going forward. Now please quote me as an analyst and put me on the front page!

1. MacBook Air w/ Retina (12")
2. MacBook Pro w/ Retina (13")
3. MacBook Pro w/ Retina (15")

1. iPad mini
2. iPad Air
3. iPad Pro (with giant screen)

1. iPhone 6c (basically a plastic 5s)
2. iPhone 6 (4.7")
3. iPhone 6 Pro (5.5" sapphire display, +$100)

Perhaps by doing so, the used iPhone market popularity will increase even more/cause more cannibalization.

Wasn't it just revealed in an internal Apple document regarding the Samsung case that what consumers want isn't what they provide and yet they want to supposedly charge a tax (on top of what's commonly referred to as 'apple tax' especially when looking at unsubsidized Nexus phones) for aligning on demands?

The fact that this rumor has cropped up twice now, on random occasions, indicates to me even if it isn't the bottom line end results, its likely been under heavy scrutiny. Bad move considering I know a lot of people who consider "$200" for an iPhone to be asking a lot, as they just use it for what they need and move on, and laugh at the notion that a phone sans contract could cost $650+ let alone that people pay it to not have to deal with carrier terms.

Not to state the obvious, but I always wonder what Steve Jobs would do in the year 2014. In regards to the way Apple is run, and his statements about NSA revelations that seem to be shoveled under the rug with private meetings with POTUS to likely strengthen this incognito practices.

Does anyone else feel weirded out heartbleed was revealed not long after 7.0.6 SSL patching?

There's a lack of trust in American tech companies, and this unwarranted price hike seems to be not helping their case imo.

Sorry to bring politics into it, it seems intertwined with tech so heavily these days.

Seems old Timmy doesn't mind bringing politics into it either, by threatening to not have plants there if they don't loosen up on their anti-gay policies. Not that I condone anti-gayness, but he seems to have a conscience too so why can't as a joe schmoe?

Sorry Apple. I used to be a big fan of yours, and I have actually been considering switching back to iPhone when iPhone 6 comes out. If this news is true, I see my next phone being a Nexus 6 because it is just not worth it to pay twice as much for a product that has fallen behind its competitors.

Then the keys become smaller, it's not a good solution at all.

For someone used to a keyboard that size, sure it is.

To reiterate:

Someone was claiming that it was impossible to type one-handed on a large screened phone. (It's not, especially with Swype, but that's beside the point.)

With Samsung's one-handed options, one of the things you can do, is turn on a keyboard that is sized more like one from a smaller screened phone, and shifted to one side so your thumb doesn't have to stretch.

In other words, it's just like using a smaller phone to type on, if that's what someone wants/needs.

Absolutely right. And don't you dare ever open up just about any Apple product because you may see the products produced by that evil company inside, chosen by Apple to be in there.

And don't you ever look at screen gripe threads because you may find some of the very bashers of that evil company hoping to get the evil company's screen in their next Apple product because the ones from LG & Sharp are problematic.

And don't think about who else is making the next brain for the new generation of iDevices beyond TSMC because such an evil company would never be selected by the goodness that is Apple to be involved in any part of building anything.

All :roll eyes:

But let's all just ignore all that and hate 'em because there's a legal battle with Apple right now.

A not yet announced product which MAY be priced higher due to technological advances has "fallen behind its competitors". Logically challenged?

Possibly to help differentiate the 4.7" and 5.5" models? Keep the 4.7" at current price, make the 5.5" $100 more... just like the two sizes of iPad.

Only the original iPhone didn't take off UNTIL carriers were allowed to subsidize the iPhone.

So Ballmer wasn't entirely wrong. If Apple HAD stuck to the original plan, who knows if the iPhone would have been as ubiquitous as it was - in time- before competition hit the market.

What?

Wikipedia said:
The iPhone was released on June 29, 2007 in the United States where thousands of people were reported to have waited outside Apple and AT&T retail stores days before the device's launch; with many stores reporting stock shortages within an hour. To avoid repeating the problems of the PlayStation 3 launch, which caused burglaries and even a shooting, off-duty police officers were hired to guard stores overnight.

Yeah. People revolted over the non-subsidized price.

While these are rumors, if true, Apple has to go the bathroom because they're full of it. Increase the price of the iPhone phone which will contain features that have already been on the market for years now.

The new iPhone 6.
Bigger screen. Bigger price. Because we can. Because you will. :apple:

Good old Apple the greediest company on earth.

Well to be fair, all corporation are greedy. Apple, Google, M$, we all just dollar signs to them.

iPad mini -> iPad mini retina had a price increase.

And the iPad Air still has 16GB of storage at $499. LOL

No way they increase their prices (especially now that there's more competitors).

Plus, let's look at the source of this "info".

Besides, when was the last time you saw Apple *increase* the price of an already established product?

As said, iPad mini.

A not yet announced product which MAY be priced higher due to technological advances has "fallen behind its competitors". Logically challenged?

See comments above.

Yeah those dang The Verge writers always trying to make Samsung look good by saying their phones feel gross with their slimey plastic, too many options and boring design

totally what I want to hear in order to convince me to buy one

Well obviously HTC paid better bribes that month....

This is it!

I'm going to be returning to land lines. I'll find pay phones when I really need a phone. I'll go to internet cafes if I need to use a computer. I'll bring a walkman and a collection of cassettes with me wherever I go. I'll stuff a digital camera in my pocket too. Raising the price $100, and leaving those damn bezels???! I can't take it anymore!!!

Huh? Both are issues. I have no clue what you are trying to say. Are you saying international growth is not important? If so, then you couldn't be more wrong. Apple can't survive on US iPhone sales alone no matter what they price them at. This source is not correct. No way they could sale their flagship phone for $100 more. Perhaps the 5.x version they can. If the article is correct it will absolutely slaughter international sales.

You said Apple's market share would shrink. I said it doesn't matter, they've historically never chased market share. In your next reply, you switched to growth. Growth and market share are different things. Sales of the iPhone has been growing for years outside the US despite shrinking market share.

And no, market share is not as important as tech pundits/analysts lead you people to believe. Macs make more profit than the rest of the entire PC industry combined despite less than 10% market share last year. Would you trade in market share for higher profit? That's exactly what they're doing with the iPhone.

If Apple wants to add a sapphire display, it would only be possible with a price increase to reflect the higher cost/quality.

I have seen Apple when it was low profit and when it is high profit. I like high profit Apple better. That profit gives them the capacity to offer product in higher volumes, with lower holding and credit costs, at lower price points, and with higher quality.

I think what you said is absurd. You are saying that high profits allow Apple to keep lower prices. Really? Then I guess when Apple increases its profits on iPhone 6 by $100 it will translate into lower iPhone 6 price for consumers, right?
