This is so annoying. There are MANY other carriers that support the same technology (cmda) than just verizon. Many carriers in euorpe use it this doesn't necessarily mean it's going to verizon. Apple has to go through negotiations with verizon before it gets there and there are many factors. Personaly I don't want the iPhone to go to verizon until 4G is across the board on most carriers. It will just be easier that way for everyone apple, us, and all the carriers.

I'm not ure of this, but I don't think there are any CDMA carriers in Europe. I think South Korea and a few others use CDMA, but most of the world is GSM.

Clearly you didn't see my post about China Telecom. But what's a hundred million Chinese, right?;)

I was told this, on simmilar post but I might be wrong but u said Korea and other places do have it so I was somewhat right

The problem with this speculation thread is that there will probably NEVER be a Verizon iPhone, no matter how much we hope and dream. Apple signed an exclusive contract with AT&T and AT&T would probably rather die than let Apple meander over to Verizon because that's probably half of their customers using iPhones. I would love a Verizon iPhone because it'd have better service and faster speeds but there would have to be a lot of changes internally to the phone service. In the slight chance that there is an iPhone 4 for Verizon, it would probably be the white iPhone 4-- imo, they'll fix all of the antennas and THEN release it to Verizon so people can tell them apart: White for Verizon, Black for AT&T. :p

You need to do some research on that exclusivity agreement. The second link has the SEC filing snip of interest.

Thanks for the link, but I already know that. :p I would think AT&T would want to renew the contract, although they're being awful snooty, thinking that they'll be okay without the iPhone. They won't. :p

I honestly dont think its gonna happen.

but it would sorta be nice if it did. Why?

the verizon phone will be able to FaceTime. Not the jittery stuttering lag via a Droid based phone. But a phone that acctually delivers it well.

Im not against Android I just prefer Apples OS over Droids. For many reasons.

Ive been using the Facetime feature while at work to exchange ideas on building projects, homes, land, locations, demographics and regular business calls. And its served its purpose well. Very well honestly without hickup or disconnect.

If Verizon customers were given the opportunity to run in life with an iPhone4 I think that would be the definate change to everything. I think the iPhone4 probably would be taking proactive steps forward even tho it might be a CDMA phone.

Then again, I really dont see this happening. If ever.

But my question would be, Why does Apple have Verizon cell towers right on Campus?

Sadly, many of the American commentors here apparently deny the existence of the rest of the planet if the Olympics or World Cup aren't on TV.

Absolutely disgraceful.

Hell, I'm a New Yorker, so I not only deny the existence of ROW, but also of the rest of America.

It's a good excuse for Apple to crack open the case and re-visit the antenna design. - I just hope they produce some more GSM versions for Europe (etc.) at the same time whilst they're at it.

This way it won't look like such a monumental cock-up!

I can finally come back to the iphone . . . relief. Hopefully the iphone 5 will be out. :D

Something no one has mentioned yet (not that I saw anyway)...

Wouldn't it be beneficial for Apple to start selling CDMA based Verizon iPhones just to put a nail in the Android coffin? Even if they had to sell them at a loss, it would still be in their best interest to demolish Android now before it gets any more popular. You think Steve wants to repeat history with the iPhone like Apple did with Microsoft and lose all that market share?

Steve is smarter than that. Gaining the highest amount of market share and doing so quickly is more important in the long run than worrying about using antiquated technology such as CDMA or making less of a profit in the short term.

Stop being so short-sighted people.

AT&T in no way wants the agreement to end. Apple has been laying golden eggs for them since '07.

That said, the market is different now and AT&T can pick up a lot of Android devices that are marketable now that weren't even remotely thought possible in 2006.

It's not in Apples best interest to stay with AT&T. Nearly every review you read praises the hardware with the disclaimer of spotty AT&T service. The relationship is hurting Apples ability to sell more headsets, more app's, more media in the U.S.

Yeah, same..pretty much everywhere. But the US is stupid as usual (just kidding..just kidding), so they use different systems different carriers..

Nobody is going to argue about your observation about the stupid US. Change that to the FCC and you have it. If we had had an FCC they did their job instead of having commissioners who are only political flunkies Things would be different. Instead of letting phone companies have a free hand they would have imposed standards. Instead of letting phone companies pile fee after mystery fee they would make them justify every charge. They would have said all wireless device will have one standard, wireless devices will be able to operate on all systems. Real coverage maps for all service plans would be published and kept up to date. everyone's rates would be published in one place, and some kind of rating of service quality would be available in the same place. Yes I know fantasy land.:(

Yeah right and 2010 is the year of the linux desktop. LOL

Forgetting that the iPhone already works all over the world, so called "world phones" never seems to work in as many countries as the iPhone because the dual mode chipsets usually only support a few frequencies for HSPA. I can only imagine how much more expensive an iPhone with CDMA and the current GSM/HSPA+ chipset would be to manufacture.

If you thought that "Antennagate" was big, imagine a bunch of ignorant American consumers buying a Verizon phone only to discover that a bunch of features are missing and that it either only works in the US on CDMA networks or works on CDMA and a couple of European networks like all of those other "world phones" that Verizon fanboys like to bring up.

Sorry folks but the CDMA2000 (North American no sim) market is way too small compared to the current global market and few Verizon subscribers would upgrade to an iPhone since they already bought a smartphone recently already.

The FCC in the US needs to get off their fat lard asses and get everyone onto the global standard to promote competition.

An - Droid

I have looked at the Droid X and all I can say is that is one BiG Assed phone.

If they keep it up, in a few years it will be as big as that phone in the Wall St movie.

BTW, when/if Verizon gets the iPhone it will not stop the bitching on this forum or others. People will complain about big bad Verizon, just like they complain about ATT. You can not fight human nature.

...LTE, I'm unlikely to believe it. Apple will require all phones to be be able to simultaneiously deliver data and voice services, Something CDMA2000 1X (without Advanced Specifications) cannot do.

GSM can't deliver voice and data simultaneously, only UMTS can do that.. So I really don't see the problem?

You are in the UK apparently and you don't see the problem? CDMA2000 phones only work on a few of networks.

Here is a list of CDMA2000 Networks:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_CDMA2000_networks

As you can see, many of the larger ones outside of the US either have switched or are switching to HSPA/HSPA+. Some of EVDO networks are data only.

I just don't get it .... All this R&D expense for a few million subs using a dying standard that will simply be replaced with the more globalized LTE anyway. Seems like an enormous waste of money.
