Really? Exactly what 4G technology do they currently use?

Yeah, about that.... http://newsroom.clearwire.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=214419&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=1456462&

T-Mobile has already announced plans to support LTE (4G). They will utilize the same technology as AT&T and Verizon. Sprint decided to go with WiMax. This makes them unique in the US and makes it difficult for them to 'convince' cell phone makers (like Apple) to build a specific version of a product for just Sprint.

Even the CEO of Sprint is leaving the door open to LTE as he recently stated that there is a chance that they might have to support this in the very near future. Another parallel network (Sprint, Nextel, WiMAx, and now LTE) and another mess.

T-Mobile USA hasn't announced anything. They're going to ride HSPA+ for as long as possible. It's just a (logical) assumption that they will someday make the move to LTE.

Ok, completely glossed over the link that I provided. Alright, here's another for your perusal, or not...

Concurrent Voice/Data is crucial

Does anybody actually use that?

All the time....my business would suffer without the ability to access voice and data at the same time.

I use Cisco's WEBEX App. It allows me to dial into a conference call and display PPTs/DOCs at the same time. This is a critical feature.

I also use concurrent voice/data whenever friends call asking me a question where the answer is a click or two away on the internet.

This feature is like power windows on a car....once you have it you wonder how you were able to live without it.

Ah a ninja edit, ok.

At any rate, given Sprint/Clearwire's copious spectrum position, which is an advantage over Verizon and at&t and far superior to t-mobile's, exactly what mess are you talking about?

When Sprint bought Nextel they were technically unable to merge the two cellular networks. Now they are stuck supporting both. Yeah, maybe over time they had a goal to move the Nextel users over to Sprint. However, this plan failed as the Nextel users moved to another provider.

I just used it on my Droid, no problem.;)

wifi data that is

I think Verizon may announce iPad CDMA units at CES.

Apple branding stays because it is not a phone, Verizon gets Apple products, which support VoIP over WAN and LAN data networks (simultaneous voice and data).

Apple has no objection to Verizon approving VoIP, tethering, wifi hotspot, and other bandwidth hogging applications. It would give Verizon a "competitive advantage" to spout off about.

Their network will grind to a merciless halt. :D That will amuse Steevie and fanbois alike.

Rocketman

But I doubt that a Verizon iPhone would be introduced, by Verizon's CEO at CES.

What if the Verizon CEO brought Jobs onstage to announce it?

The only thing that interests me about the possibility of Verizon getting the iPhone is to see how well their network holds up. If call quality sucks and data rates are pathetic, then we know such problems aren't exclusive to AT&T. But if voice and data quality are superior, then AT&T (or perhaps GSM itself) was the problem all along.

Right, however you're talking about the past. I'm asking what specific "mess" are you predicting in the future. Having parallel networks doesn't automatically equate to a mess. Technically, at&t and t-mobile run parallel
networks with GSM as well as UMTS. Telus up in Canada has CDMA, iDEN and HSPA networks and they do just fine. Claro Puerto Rico has parallel CDMA and UMTS networks. Given the 80% or so similarity between WiMAX and LTE compounded with their aforementioned imposing spectrum position, Sprint/Clearwire could find themselves in the catbird seat if their trials in Phoenix go well. We shall see...

Do you happen to work in advertising? Because, a tiny font in a extremely light color on a white background sure seems like those annoying infomercials.

No but I've had a couple of businesses and am aware of the other guys trickery.;)

Daddy I've been a bad girl! XD
Lighten up Francis.:p I've seen time-outs given for less than calling someone a doucher.

I see ipads coming for verizon than iPhones in 2011. Just because an order of CDMA shipments for apple doesn't necessarily mean it's for iPhone only.

I still stand by the 5 year exclusivity deal between apple and ATT which will expire in 2011

Apple does not allow others to announce their products.

And Steve Jobs is very selective on who he allows to share the stage with him during his keynotes.

Beyond the technical reasons, there is bad blood between Apple and Verizon.

I believe that Apple's next move is to be completely Network Neutral, by offering a VOIP based solution (allowing Apple to maintain complete control over the user experience) running on LTE. Imagined that being bundled together with MobileMe for $99.

Anyone think outside the US/West Euro bubble?
522 million CDMA subscribers worldwide.

North America: 160,045,000
Caribbean and South America: 36,100,000
Europe, Russia, Africa, Middle East: 40,010,000
Asia Pacific: 286,000,000

That includes China Telecom, KDDI (Japan) and 6 companies in India. And a total target population of 3.2 billion people.

But we already know that AT&T is the problem.

The iPhone works perfectly well in many international markets. You do realize that there are other countries than the United States of America, don't you?

For example, Norway said that the iPhone 4 antenna "death grip" issue is an American problem; it's not a problem for iPhone users in their country.

I really wish more Americans would realize the universe doesn't stop at American borders. It is downright embarrassing. And yes, I'm American.

Sadly, many of the American commentors here apparently deny the existence of the rest of the planet if the Olympics or World Cup aren't on TV.

Absolutely disgraceful.

This is so annoying. There are MANY other carriers that support the same technology (cmda) than just verizon. Many carriers in euorpe use it this doesn't necessarily mean it's going to verizon. Apple has to go through negotiations with verizon before it gets there and there are many factors. Personaly I don't want the iPhone to go to verizon until 4G is across the board on most carriers. It will just be easier that way for everyone apple, us, and all the carriers. Pluss like others have said the iPad is a better bet to go to verizon the cops don't have to be for iPhone.

Of course!! That's why it would be a wise move to stick some CDMA RF in the thing.;)

Verizon would be an added benefit but surely not THE reason to produce a CDMA version iPhone.
