Buy a mac pro? Or if the screen is your only issue with the iMac use an external monitor for manipulating the graphics (anyone you choose) and use the "childrens" screen to look at your mail.

I get the feeling you may be more of a troll than a pro since you do not seem to have put a lot of thought into what it is you need and how to achieve it.

It's funny how so many people use the word "troll" to those who don't lick Apple's thumb. Do I have to talk good about Apple to be a serious person here?. To be honest I found this pathetic.

I've been waiting many months for Apple to come out with a serious pro desktop and I'm afraid that hasn't been the case. I've been using Macs and PCs for almost 20 years, I don't fall in love with companies or products as many do, I just go for the options I consider good in many aspects without using my emotions. I always prefer Apple products for their design(specially the OS) but they don't always do great stuff and that seems to be more common recently, apart from devices of course.

Why would a consumer want to see competition die?

That's a very good point. Sadly brand fanatics only want their brand to succeed (sort of like football fans). The problem with that scenario of course is that the logical consequence of such lack of competition = lack of innovation.

Some people say that within Apple this position has already been reached. One day soon someone will make a commercial in which some freedom loving chick hurls a sledgehammer through a projection of Steve Jobs :apple:.

It would be nice if they invest more money on making better professional desktop computers as they used to, instead of concentrating in devices only.:(

It would be nice if you continue to NOT work for Apple, as they're doing just fine with THEIR strategy, NOT yours!

I wonder if people research gibberish statements like this before spouting them out. Some of the most innovating companies in history forged ahead by constantly pumping money back into the company; forgoing dividends. Ford was an excellent example of this. The shareholders can make their money by holding as Apple grows, dividends be damned.

Yes,I like the security and stability of their cash horde. After the hard times of the 90s,it's nice to have.Plus,if an acquisition opportunity pops up,they can be ready.

Differences:

Microsoft is larger than Apple (though not by much) and (most importantly) has paid substantial dividends to shareholders in the recent past.

And Microsoft is the only other company with anywhere near as much cash on hand as Apple...

The beauty of the stock market is that if you don't like the way a company is managed, you don't have to buy their stock.Enjoy your Microsoft dividends.

That sounds nice.I'm a little shocked that unit sales are up on a product they've pretty much ignored.Hopefully soon there will be a fantastic update.I really like mine, but it has so much potential...

The hacker community probably accounts for many of them. It turns out there really isn't any other device like it for $200. People are hacking them to run boxee etc. There are some other devices that are almost on the market, so it would be interesting to see if the units drop after that.

Apple needs to get the ABC app and the Netflix app on the AppleTV... It would sell better and hopefully give them leverage to support their own distribution system. Netflix is a horrible long term business plan because it doesn't make enough money for content producers. Apple needs to position themselves as a more profitable alternative while supporting Netflix at the same time. Looks like they are already trying this idea with book content by allowing competition.

Yes, It's called retained profit so a company can fund many new research and development projects. Dividends come later!:D

I think they're about even now, both have about $40B in cash and short-term assets (IIRC, I'm not 100% sure about that). Apple will soon be past them. In terms of market cap, Apple has already passed Google and is approaching Microsoft.

I'm pretty sure Apple is well past $50B, those accounting rules blurred the figures. That amount of cash would also generate almost $2B in interest alone, at the same time MS is dumping there profit in a dividend. Is there a site that keeps track?

Apple TV

Q: Any plans for Apple TV?
A: Units were up 34%, but absolute number of units still small. Still a hobby. Comparing the Apple TV's small market to that of Mac, iPhone, iPod.

No advertising
Limited press (and what press there is is typically luke warm to negative)
No prominent placement on Apple.com

Unit sales up 34%? Why is this a hobby?

I agree the thing needs updates... but for a red headed step child 'hobby' product to continue to grow on its own merit, that's saying something. This product needs a refresh and a clear marketing campaign.

Peter Oppenheimer is my new hero, even though I normally hate CFO's and think Apple's accounting department is its weakest link.

I wish they would start treating Apple tv like a legitimate product, it could be so much better.

Won't happen. The future of tv and set-top boxes is way up in the air. Everyone is trying to combine things, tv's are coming built in with different things. It is a big mess now and nobody else is cooperating with anyone else.

At some point there is going to be a more unified solution that fits in line and works with what most people have, but right now it is a mess. There is no single good solutions, just about 25 half-arsed ones, including Apple TV.

The solution is too far off, and clearly apple doesn't have the product or the leverage to change that now, so they have to just sit back and wait.

Everyone seems to be thinking hardware when new products are mentioned. When is that new server farm due to be finished?

bingo - we have a winner. The "iStore" had 1.1 billion revenue. Apple is heavily focused on content. The hardware (iPhone, itouch, iPad) will become a commodity used to consume content and they'll make a boatload of cash off the hardware too. Best of both worlds.

new products?

iPads and the new MacBook Pros will be on the next quarterly report.

new Mac Pros
new X-serve

iPad 3G

iPad foreign markets

iPhone V4 (new carriers)

iPad App store
iPad media store

iPodTouch 2010

iPad mid-sized? (1024+, high density display) ~7" diagonal

How about this. A Mac-Mini BTO case with 5 drive bays (several compatibilities)? Easy and eliminates 90% of Mac-Mini and Mac-Midi whining.

Rocketman

Agreed! Next quarter's report should be very interesting.

At a big cost, consumers downloaded 4B apps but that only generated $1B in revenue or $300 million in net profit. So 90% free apps where Apple is betting on iAd to generate some extra revenue from, i hope it works out.

Its probably a hobby because its not selling well but Apple think it can go somewhere in the future.

Hobby = marketing speak for "failing product but we still think it has potential".

Like, haven't you seen the unbelievable iMacs that are available now? What more could you possibley need?

John

What more could one need on an iMac? Expansion capabilities. Processing power (for some). Non-glossy screen options... to name a few.

AppleTV is still a joke (oh, sorry, we mean 'hobby').

But I'm sure the new products will be *amazing* and *magical*.

FWIW I'm about to buy a MBP15 (matte) - I hope I don't start believe all the Apple Marketing BS though.

Q: Education sales outlook?
A: We're holding up in market share and ready to compete, but budgets are difficult right now.

How are budgets "difficult" with a $3 Billion profit from a single, non-holiday, quarter??
