I doubt AAPL will meet their 4th qtr forecast, imo.

Doesn't Apple usually forecast on the low end for the next quarter? Their numbers seem kinda high for next quarter, if I'm remembering this correctly.

Based upon Apple's consistent ultra-conservative earnings forecasts, they are bound to exceed it for the 4th quarter.

I bought 20,000 share in 2001 with my inheritance. I'm cashing out in a few months as I am retiring
Congratulations are your early retirement - Bravo!

Will you be cashing it out completely, or perhaps hold a few shares?

Antenna-gate ain't an issue.

Oh capitalism... Sad to see regular people focused so hard on the profit of a single corporation (including the entire stock exchange, which is basically like betting on horse races). Also sad to see that corporation focused so hard on its own profits, neglecting quality or ideals where it doesn't make them more money.

:mad:: Quality?!
: I am confused! Who makes money more than Microsoft?
: If are wondering - Microsoft cares not about quality.
: He is all about antenna-gate.

One last thing, I predict Apple will make some form of IP4 recall before September. They have no choice in the matter and to continue to ignore the signs, media reports, late night jokes, and avg joe's snickers upon mentioning IP4 or Apple would be utterly reckless on StevJo part.

Nonsense. This is dead issue. The naysayers will have to find something else to whine about.

I think you forgot to mention - wars for oil, cutting corners as regards the environment, safety and health all in the quest for money - oils spills in the gulf anyone? - exploitation and outsourcing native jobs in order to pay criminally low wages in underdeveloped countries, gross financial, educational and cultural inequality, ah capitalism - what would we do without you? Have a better life and a better world to live it in.

Booo Hoooo, Those bad republicans won't give me a free handout, booo hooo!!!! I want "rich people" to give me their money, Booo hooooo!!

Wars for oil?? Boy you are a real brainwashed loser aren't you??? Enjoy your life renting Michael Moore movies with the money you get on your public assistance check..

Pfffttt

The Soviet Union had a far worse record vis-a-vis the environment then the United States. Also Europe burns a lot more coal then the USA. Let me know of some socialist utopia which has wondrous environment with no pollution.

Not sure if this is new information. They just said that the North Carolina data center will be complete at the end of the calendar year and Apple will start using it then. They didn't say for what.

You are a newbie, your opinion means nothing. Again nothing constructive to say?

Keep telling yourself that buddy. Repeating it over and over will not make it true.

The majority of people who already have an iPhone 4 seem to be perfectly happy with it with or without a free case.

Maybe with the demise of so many newspapers, you have forgotten than "bad news" or scandals sold more papers than good news or balanced factual reporting which is why newspapers always went with the most sensational story on the front page. Now on the internet it is all about page hits and ad impressions.

The number incidents have not increased with the increase in coverage of the old reports.

Dropped calls are caused by "the network" in a particular area. With the way the media portrayed it, you would think that nobody had droppped calls on the iPhone 3G/3GS or other phones.

@PerfSeeker: Want to make a wager?

Data Center

Agreed: this is the most interesting comment of those published here.

Q&A
Q: More details on gross margin performance?
A: Higher iPhone and accessory sales than expected enhanced gross margin.

LOL that could make a good Dilbert story...about bumpers

It's is NOT a dead issue. I also predict a September recall.

Antennagate is history. However, here is a heads up to the next issue. I heard a rumor that if you hold your finger over the lens of the camera then the photos come out really dark. I don't know how CR missed this. The solution is to duct tape your fingers together so that they don't block the lens. Some say that this problem is common to all smart phones but I'm sure HTC, Motorola and Nokia will deny it.

Go tell that to those millions of innocents killed due to "collateral damage" following such illegal interventions...I love how these guys can always come up with some new euphemism for the word "murder"...

There, off-topic mode is OFF.

The take away from this should be that competition is sorely needed. Seriously, where are the decent android tablets? T-Mobile WTF is your problem? You can't have a minimum smartphone plan that costs more than an iPhone plan and expect success.

As a free-market conservative American I love it when companies rake in mega-profits like Apple. I believe companies, and people, are allowed to make however much they want. I reject salary caps, profit caps, and higher taxes for successful Americans.

I often wonder how many Apple fanboys have blasted oil companies, insurance companies, medical companies, etc for making outrageous profits. To put things into perspective, Apple's profit margin was 22.7%, while the average oil company's profit margin is 4-7%, and your average insurance company's profit margin is about 3%.

Kind of ironic considering a great many Apple supporters lean to the left, at least from what I've gathered.

When was the last time Apple destroyed an entire region's local economy? When was the last time that Apple spent billions lobbying towards weaker regulations so their wrongful practices were not made illegal? When was the last time Apple spent billions creating an entire misinformation campaign to discredit legitimate science, which is trying to prevent what could likely be a disaster for the entire planet so they could hold onto their current profits? When was the last time Apple hired lobbyists to sleep with regulators so they could save money by avoiding safety procedures? And so on...

People don't dislike oil companies because they give us oil. They dislike them for all the other shenanigans they pull so they can continue raking in the profits.

For that matter, the hue and cry following Apple's "antenna gate" has almost been as large as that as the Gulf Oil Spill. In one case, in the worst case you drop a call in an area other phones are unlikely to even allow you to place a call in the first place. This could be fixed by a simple 30$ purchase of a bumper (which Apple is now giving for free). Do I need to mention the negative effects of the oil spill? If anything, Apple can claim disproportionate and misplaced anger.

Same goes with insurance companies (who find the weakest excuse to deny coverage) and medical companies (who basically find lobbyists to sleep with FDA members, or bury them in money to approve insufficiently tested drugs, or hire cheerleaders to once again, "market" their products to doctors, who then prescribe them to you).

That being said, I personally don't blame these actions on the companies themselves. It is an expected consequence of a society, and institutional structure, that values shareholder profits beyond everything else. It is also unsurprising in a society where all the checks and balances against misbehavior (intelligent regulation, limited unionization, liability law (e.g. 75mn cap on oil damages, no matter what), etc) have been demonised, and public opinion manipulated for them to fall for it hook line and sinker.

4 days after the press conference there is NO fix for the antenna or proximity sensor and it's history? Wow I knew there were delusional Apple fantrolls but YOU take the cake.

LOL at the negative votes (and we all know who you are).

Allow me to quote Tina Fey: "Suck it, haters."

Speak for yourself and your fellow lefties. Most people realize that oil extraction is a nasty, but necessary business to keep the economic engine humming along. Lefties are at most 30% of the electorate.
