MacRumors, can you create a line chart of Revenue Percentage by Category over time? Would be interesting to see how the different categories have contributed to the overall revenue over the quarters. Meaning, has AAPL become more/less dependent on a certain category over the quarters.
I’m not MacRumors but I can.

I thought no one wanted to buy Apple products? The iPhone X is a failure and too expensive for anyone to buy it. The HomePod is too expensive. The laptops and desktops all need to be updated before anyone will buy them and more.

I'm glad I bought shares in the '90s.

But if you read the reports carefully you'd noticed that Apple actually sold fewer iPhones than even lowered WS expectations. So all the warnings about lower sales came up true.

Would love to spend a chunk of my upcoming dividend on the new 2018 Airport Time Capsule.

I do not like the slow growth of services. This is a very high margin business and Apple continues to make half steps and missteps into this area. Amazon, Microsoft, and Google are eating Apple's lunch in this area. None of them have any dependency on hardware, and make huge revenues from corporate customers. They even give students access to their services for free, following the original Apple "get them using out stuff, and they are customers for life" strategy.

31% year over year growth slow in your opinion?

My 5K iMac and 2017 MBP are certainly not outdated.

I see nothing outdated about my 2017 MBP and iMac Pro. Most of the complaints come from people who wouldn't be buying a new machine even if there was one available. No matter what Apple releases they'll find some complaint and reason not to buy it. It'll always be too expensive, too underpowered, too something. It's their way of justifying not buying one.

The reality is that they simply don't have the money. We see this happen all the time in behavioral economics. Here are the reasons the Porsche 918 isn't worth it. Most certainly not related to me not having the $800k for it.

It's hilarious to see how many people have now turned to, "Despite the fact that it'd likely mean losing his job and time in jail, I don't believe the things Cook has said because they don't match with my poor opining of Apple and how they must be performing in my own mind. When the data doesn't agree with my viewpoints, I'll simply dismiss the numbers."

Yeah pretty desperate stuff. It continues to amaze me how some get so worked up and become angry when a tech company enjoys great success as a result of the products they develop and sell.

I suspect that's a result of people not being happy or successful in their own lives.

Reading this from my iPhone X, the same phone the "Apple is doomed!" team assured me would sell horribly and that they "never see one in public" just makes this report even better.:D

Yeap, Apple Music was hailed as smashing Spotify to bits, yet when Spotify floated and released its number of users it dwarfed Apple Music.. despite Apples attempts to pursued people otherwise..
It’s the same with original programming, they claim they are serious about it yet only give a billion dollars for at least a year for all content, Amazon are considering that amount for ONE show based on The Lord Of The Rings Plus all the other content, I think Netflix are around 8 billion. How can they be a serious ‘services company’ like that despite Apples billions and billions and billions sat there doing nothing?
It does help though to be a diversified company. As of today, May 1, 2018
Market Capitalization
Apple: $889.88 Billion
Amazon: $767.11 billion
Microsoft: $732.67 billion
Alphabet (Google): $722.17 billion
Netflix: $136.35 billion

Now all they have to do is implement Six Sigma and they'll be like GE and IBM, seems they've got the rest covered (i.e. lack of direction, careless leadership, no product excitement...)

I think these are very easy comments to say when you're riding with any wave.

The same with the other crowds riding on the recent flurry of negative posts.

Well, the above are no less true, but clearly Cook having turned Apple overly miserly, greedy, self-serving and derivative has not put a dent on their brand popularity and profits.

Good products? Sure. Great products? I'm not expecting any such thing to come out of Cupertino again. Without competition, peer pressure or wallet-voting, they got their cake and get to eat it too. Why bother innovating or keeping all of their products up to date if people buy them for top dollar anyway?

Ah, I seen you've gone for the old "people are so stupid, that's why Apple is successful" argument. Get down from your high horse for five minutes and consider the possibility that some people actually LIKE the stuff which Apple is selling and get real VALUE out of it and are therefore making a RATIONAL, INFORMED choice when purchasing this stuff. But nah, easier for you to tell yourself that any bad quarter proves you right and any good quarter just proves how stupid people are. Either way, you're always right - right?

iPhone and Services (which are mostly used on the iPhone) make up 77% of their revenue and probably even a higher percentage of their profit. Now it’s easy to see why they don’t care about the Mac. It’s a poor performer in revenue at 10% and likely has a much worse profit margin then the iPhone and iPad. I should add the iPad (a product I love) is also not growing anymore and I can see it soon becoming a hobby product like the Mac or Apple TV.

How can you even say this with a straight face? Seriously?

GE is NOTHING like Apple.

IBM is only like Apple in that its tech.

Apple is far more profitable than either are or ever were.

Why are you wasting your life on this website then? Seems like a huge waste of your short time on this earth to spend it on a company who you don't see doing anything great ever again. If that's honestly how you feel, I'd move on and find somewhere better to invest your time.

Do you really want to look back on your life when asked and be like "I spent a lot of time on a website for a company I didn't think very highly of and didn't think would ever do anything great."

Your trite platitudes aside, I stick around in hope Apple recaptures what made them a household brand in the first place. You know, kind of like watching a bad TV series hoping it finally turns around.

You called people stupid, not me. Apple’s products ain’t what they used to be and still sell more than ever.

Well, the upwards wave is actually backed up by solid quarterly financials.

What do the negative posts have as proof? Seems it’s just easier to substitute “feelings” for “facts” these days.

... with less revenue than "Services", nobody wants to buy the outdated hardware...

How sad indeed, but then there is this company called Alphabet, aka Google, that lives only on services. Remember how much Steve Jobs loved their business model?

Apple has become a Phone and Services company.

Macs and even iPads are just side projects. Makes me sad, but this is what it is.

If your rationale was true, then it would be doubly or triply true for the likes of Google and Microsoft which sell fewer Chromebooks and Surface Books than Apple sells MacBooks. By your rationale, Google is an advertising company and Microsoft is an enterprise cloud company, and their laptops are just side projects. So why are those companies bothering to invest in laptops? Same reason as Apple.

It's because laptops, while not typically replaced every 1-2 years and not used at all by some consumers (and therefore representing much smaller volume compared to smartphones) are an important component of the 'system' which Apple is selling to its customers. That is, a system for managing your information (structured and unstructured data). For some people, a smartphone is all they need. For others, they sometimes just need a bigger screen (tablet). For others, a laptop or desktop is still needed for more advanced tasks. Apple is selling devices, but more importantly they're really selling a modular information management system, and laptops are a vital part of that system for a lot of their most high-value customers.

I certainly didn't call people stupid - I did the complete opposite. I pointed out your implication, which is the natural conclusion to be drawn from your assertion that Apple doesn't need to bother innovating because people will keep handing over big wads of cash for mediocre, outdated products.

How so? People simply just are not buying Mac’s as the same rate as other devices.

Even if the product line was vastly different it would be the same. This is the future

Humans across the planet choose to buy more phones than iPads, and more iPads than macs.

Yet, somehow, it’s Tim/Apple who is valuing the iPhone more than the Mac.

What a strange logical jump.

At same level they were in Q3. And even year over year is slow compared to other companies.

More importantly, let's see what is in Apple Services. "App Store, Apple Care, Apple Pay, iTunes, cloud services and more." Subtract Apple Care, Apple Pay, iTunes and you have Google's offerings. Subtract these and the App Store and you have Microsoft and Amazon offerings. Cloud services are where the future money exists and companies by big multi-year contracts to have worldwide computing infrastructure that they do not have to maintain.

How Sad, Macs, the backbone of this company, with less revenue than "Services", nobody wants to buy the outdated hardware...

And Mac sales went down... well if they actually spent some time updating their hardware. FOUR years since mini update. Woeful for a product "important" to Tim. Surely doesn't need a full redesign - just upgrade the guts to something like 2018 specs. iMac should be updated yearly. Pro product... coming. Where is the love? Every other computer company has a rolling 3 month update product line. 'Think Different" shouldn't reflect mostly in product release cycles.

My partner and I are waiting, money in pocket, the buy updated hardware. Not buying something so far out of date it hurts. Even the retail electronics stores list mini on their webpage but dont carry stock as they know people wont buy them. Then it makes the product look unpopular. It's a no win situation. Tim might dump these just because they aren't selling! Geez.
