Tablet market is saturated? Mac Sales were up and Ipad sales were down slightly. Which has the higher margin? Also with iPads people tend to want to get them when they first come out but then they are less of a need so people don't get them particularly late into the cycle. This is why I think it is suspicious for Apple to be releasing them at Christmas time instead of during the summer.

I want to know how many iPad buyers are upgraders.

My dad has been using his iPad 2 since its release in 2011, close to upgrading but it is still just as good as ever for him.

Noticed that too. Come to think of it, I don't know anyone who has replaced the iPad they have, wonder if the masses are not upgrading at all. Mine is iPad 2 and I haven't seriously thought of replacing it...functions too well!

I know what you mean! My almost 3 year old iPad 2 works perfectly fine. No need to upgrade.

apple has a serious issue. they make their products too durable and well built lol

On the earnings call Tim Cook said the 100+ apps being developed with IBM will be designed using Swift.

Unlike iPhones, iPad aren't on a 2 year upgrade cycle. Also, with iPads, you are forking over the entire $400-$500(keep in mind that is the average price people pay for laptops. Mac users like on this forum seem understandably to forget this allot) in cash vs $200(and even less nowadays) with a contract iphone.

The average consumer also only needs to run games and movies on their iPads, which even ipad 2 does with ease, not high end productivity apps. Even my mother still uses the iPad 1st gen to watch movies.

People are upgrading iPads like laptops.

Cook's number 1 overused word is "excited."

"Incredible" is a close number 2.

Screw the branding, find a dictionary... ;)

iPhones/iPads I update each year. I use the money that would otherwise go to drinking. Macs are on a every other release upgrade cycle for me.

Same with my dad. Ohhh wait I purchased his iPad 2 and iPhone 5c for him. LOL!

In the call, Apple predicted a lower margin for next quarter.

(Between 37% and 38%, versus the 39.4% for last quarter)

Just for a baseline - those are crazy high margin rates for a hardware company that's pretty close to giving away most of their software.

"Investing in exciting new products in the pipeline"

Well, we're all waiting on this type of remark for a LONG time now.

We all see new interesting things coming from many other companies, and even new companies bringing innovative things to customers.

What's Apple doing?

It better not be yet another tweaked re-hash of the same old products.
It's really starting to get more and more noticeable as time goes on.

It's just too damn hard to do any work on it. I could probably do most of my job on it, but it would just take a lot longer than using a laptop.

That has zero to do with sales. How does that samsuck tablet work for you?

It will be interesting to see what Apple does with iPads this fall. A CNBC reporter talked to Cook today and Cook told them he was excited by what Apple has planned for iPad. Of course I wouldn't expect him to say any different, but with larger iPhones coming out that could eat into iPad share I think Apple will need to do more than bump the internals and add Touch ID. Maybe we'll see more on the software side specific to iPad.

I agree. I think Apple needs to differentiate the product line a lot more, especially with larger screen iPhones around the corner. Maybe something that sits in between iPhone and mac in terms of functionality
