Nah, they own Beats so that's unlikely to be the real reason. I'm more inclined to believe Bluetooth5 is the delay in both cases.
WHAT?

A rational comment?!

Not someone saying
"Another failure" "Timmy needs to be fired" " Apple is a mess" "Iphone 7 is UNUSABLE!!!!!!!"

I can't believe this.

Where were these people when Samsung phones were a danger to the lives of others?

I'm not so sure you'd feel everything you lose a bit like when you take headphones or glasses off it is still like you are wearing them or not noticing a pickpocket has taken something from you. Just as a magician takes your watch and you don't even notice it is missing...

A pod is infinitely more losable than something from your pocket.

Although there are items I may or may not realise I am wearing, earphones are quite distinct in how they affect sound and feeling in the ear quite dramatically. I think I am more likely to not realise whether I have shoes on or not. There is a clear feeling when it comes out of your ear.

I am sure glasses don't fall off your face without you realising.

Courageous enough to make jokes on the internet but not courageous enough to realize that Apple already offers a slew of wireless options and this delay isn't doing any appreciable harm to anything. Sad.
[doublepost=1481526153][/doublepost]
Yeah, as everybody knows Apple doesn't know what they're doing. That's why they make so little money and sell so few products. Right?

Oh right, flagship headphones. I forgot that was a thing. I remember all those times I walk in to Best Buy and say "Excuse me, where do you keep your flagship headphones?". Or when I go to Google's or Samsung's online store and I sort their headphones from flagship to non-flagship.

I'm not sure how I forgot about that. About how when a company makes an accessory, they sell a flagship version of that accessory and a non-flagship version. Like iPhone cases. The leather iPhone case is the flagship case and the rubber one is the pleb version. And Apple sells a bluetooth magic keyboard which is their flagship keyboard. But their wired keyboards are the non-flagship version of the keyboard.

Oh yeah, I remember now.

Hey look everybody, this guy is confused :)

Wow.. somebody chose an appropriate username

Wow another thread of Apple bashes. Of course many of these same people will bash Apple if they came out with a new product without the latest technology that was available shortly (think the continued CPU update debate).

So what if Apple began distribution of old Bluetooth technology, a technology that was not quite as good as it should be? Hmmm the bashes have a field day.

https://www.bluetooth.com/specifications/bluetooth-core-specification/bluetooth5

Is this the reason for the delays?

My only complaint is this; if changing Bluetooth specs is the reason why can't they just be honest and up front with the public?

I got fed up waiting for these so I bought myself some B&O H5 wireless earphones for use at work. So along with my Bose QC35's, I have all my bases covered now.

Apple lost some business with all this dithering and faffing about.

My guess is that Apple doesn't like B&H much as they cut away from Apple Store sales, they cut Apples prices and offer no sales tax, why would they rush Air Pods to them for sale?

Apple is quick to remove the headphone jack; slow to give you a wireless option after STATING that wireless is the future. Yeah, future. Not now, clearly.

Or option 2:

This forum has been invaded by a seriously bad wave of negativity in recent months and the critics will seize any opportunity to criticise Apple and Tim Cook, regardless of whether they have any personal stake in the issue or not.

You might be right in that these are different people, and it's honestly getting pretty tiring to go to any new topic and instantly get overwhelmed by the whole tide of negativity.

Don't the whiners here have anything better to do, or at least take the time to type out a more well thought out response?

If Apple cannot even release simple headphones on time, then something is seriously wrong. Maybe it is a technology problem, or communications between marketing and production/engineering or between 3rd parties and Apple. But in any case it is a problem. You want to ignore that, and thats fine. Some of us see bad signals coming from Apple and want everybody to see them also, in case it is possible to change. Its kind of like seeing someone that is too drunk to drive. I would immediately speak up, even if it hurt someones feelings. I am guessing that you would not speak up and that is easy at the time, but a terrific burden if something does happen. It is important to criticize. It is how people and businesses get better. Of course we could just be silent and let them fail, but I am too passionate to go that route.

Re your deleted post: ".....versus the rest of the board which is relatively awesome and supports constructive comments".

Agreed, there's good and helpful info to be had if you know where to look.

What a joke. Remove the headphone jack and your flagship headphones can't even work properly in time for release. What a wonderful way to propel us to a wireless future.
They only announced and knowingly they can't deliver, to make their presentation truly magical or else their presentation would be like..."we removed the 3.5mm headphone jack for literally no reason but you can purchase our newly available by Apple products that lets you use your 3.5mm headphones." haha

Oh man, that's too bad. I bet Apple are really beating themselves up over that one lost purchase. Poor Apple, I hope they don't have to declare bankruptcy after this.

Your comment was completely incoherent. What is it you're trying to say here?

hey Tim Jobs

Maybe Apple just wants to release a solid product before releasing it. Not every company is content to release not-quite-finished products just to meet an arbitrary deadline. If Apple had released the products too early, people would complain. If Apple releases them later than expected, people complain. If Apple releases products when expected, people complain. People need to grow up.

After a break from the Macrumors forums I've slowly been coming back to see if anything had changed but the constant negativity and whining aren't worth dealing with. Back on Macrumors hiatus I go.

Who cares. They already have two bluetooth options out, which are probably better than these, and I'm going to guess that they want the AirPods to come out before these.

Also, these are so ugly and look...well, dumb. Beats larger headphones don't sound that great, why would I want that experience shrunken down and more than likely made worse?

The Powerbeats Wireless 2 are phenomenal. Great sound, they never fall out, and 6 hour battery life ought to be enough for most people. Also, they can be purchased for $99 now that the new ones are avail. I recommend either the Wireless 2 or the new, more expensive ones (if you must have 12 hour battery life & W1 chip).

For the life of me I cannot understand why anyone would feel they need to hold out for the Airpods, though admittedly I have several friends who are doing so. Aren't they going to fall out/get lost almost immediately??

I'm personally planning on getting AirPods mostly as a replacement for my EarPods...which I pretty much just use for phone calls/teleconferencing. Having a wire go to my laptop is annoying, and repairing other non-w1 buds are annoying. Also having the ability to only use one bud for mic/audio makes them perfect for this use. Being able to quickly swap between devices is also important, for cases where my laptop battery dies and I need to swap to my phone (Or if the wifi network is having issues and I need to use cellular data.)

Working as wireless buds for my iPhone is just a bonus.

Looking forward to this range more than Apple's earbuds TBH.

Apple's own headphones have never really done it for me. I use them as a backup pair when I can't find my regular set, but that's about it. They just don't seem to be able to match the quality of even some £20 in ear Sonys.

It's OK. Apple is allowed unlimited delayed product launches. It's Apple. /sarc.

Look, this isn't about a couple pair of lousy headphones being delayed. It's about Apple's abily to consistently meet the publicly announced launch date or time frame. How many botched launches does Tim Cook need under his belt to stop announcing product that he is not rock solid sure will ship on time? It's just embarassing for the biggest tech company in the world to not be able to push out dinky headphones on time, especially when they own a large headphone company and are actively pushing people to BT buds.

Those saying "I'm glad Apple is waiting to get it right" are wrong. Apple shouldn't announce until they actually have it right and ready to roll. This just gives the impression Apple is turning into the gang that can't shoot straight. 3rd product delay in 18 months for company who's CEO is supposedly the lord of supply chain management. More accurate: "yank my chain management" I think.

The Powerbeats Wireless 2 are phenomenal.

Well, differing ears will have differing opinions. Personally, while not a fan of BT audio I'm also not a fan of runing with my corded headphones via a lightning dongle. Disaster waiting to happen there when I enevitably go into trance mode, trip on a raised slab of sidewalk, and the lightning dongle snaps in half leaving the lighting prong inside the phone and no way to pull it out. Yipes.

So I bit the bullet and tested a bunch of BT headphones including PowerBeats 2 and 3. Settled -- yes settled is the correct word when discussing BT buds -- on BlueJay Freedom F5. Terrible battery life, but I don't run 4 hours. I like the small size, similar to corded buds and the great iOS equalizer app that is really the killer feature. Same app also works in the X3s. Tested those too, nice but I really like the smaller size of the Freedoms. No W1 chip but connection is great and never have experience any interference that the W1 supposedly eliminates. These work great with Siri too -- well as great as Siri can work. Heh.

I agree with you on this one. I love Apple, so I'm not "Apple bashing," but come on. Why remove the headphone jack and announce all these wireless offerings and not have the flagship offering (the AirPods) or one of the solidly-reviewed secondary offerings (BeatsX) available the same time as the iPhone?

I thought it was odd enough that these were not being released until after (even the PowerBeats3 weren't until after the iPhone was released), but here we are in December and we still don't have them and who knows when AirPods will arrive and BeatsX looks to be next year?

Ugh. That is a large misstep on Apple's part. I'm not over here planning my jump to Android or any sort of ridiculous thing, but I am not pleased with how they handled any of their launches this year.

I hear people talking about BT5... well, great. But, why not just NOT announce things that will be using BT5 if it's not ready? Announce them when they are. It's THAT simple.
