I don't think Apple is as vengeful as some people are here on the forums...

Seems like a logical response (not vengeful). If I'm a reporter I ask the question directly. Why not? Apple's statement could have been issued with or without any blocking of apple pay -- it doesn't address anything.

Every time I've used :apple:Pay it was FLAWLESS.

The first couple times I literally laughed and shook my head. Amazing how simple, easy and fast it is.

Only Apple could make something like this. Really is the way of the future. :D

Umm, you know Apple didn't make this. You could do this with Android decides for the past 3 years via Google Wallet and NFC-enabled devices as far back as the Galaxy Nexus... Apple didn't invent NFC payments.

I got to first test Apple Pay at the world series last week, it was pretty damn slick. I was at best buy today and noticed their NFC system was off, probably same reason as CVS. Super easy and convenient, it will be nice to just bring my phone and key to shop and leave the wallet in the car.

Could you imagine if a major wireless provider decided not to allow iPhones on it's network? These MCX merchants are going to change their thinking soon.

At first it seems kind of jerky to begin to develop a competing payment method, but really, those companies are taking a huge blow that will promote competition. This competition will only improve Apple Pay. It's good to have options and alternatives. Even if not from Apple.

This isn't competition. If they want to compete they'll accept both methods and let the market decide. This is about not having to pay credit card processing fees and forcing this digital payment method on their customers. It isn't going to stop people from swiping credit cards though.

So the companies that support MCX and don't support Apple Pay are ones where I would never consider shopping anyway.

Walmart, is that a joke? Why would anyone with a decent self esteem shop in a store where they pay so little that employees need to apply for food stamps. There are much bigger reasons why you shouldn't shop at Walmart, and the fewer people that do the better. This just helps in that process.

Hobby Lobby, really? Nobody should shop at this religious organization that wants to dictate birth control to its employees. That business should be shut down, and their aligning themselves with MCX will hopefully assist with that endeavor.

Those who don't support Apple Pay can shove MCX up their collective rectum because I won't shop anywhere that doesn't support my chosen payment option. It's really that easy because there are plenty of alternatives. Vote with your dollars, as that is the only vote nowadays that seems to matter.
Agreed. I think even conservatives can agree that Rite Aid and CVS and these others should let the free market capitalism decide.

I am not well versed in google wallet... But do you just hold your phone up to the NFC device and scan your finger print?

It would be nice if I didn't have to have a huge iPhone 6 or 6+ to use Apple Pay, like if it worked with a flash stick that you kept on a key ring or something :)

Or some band you wore on your wrist....

Yes, except instead of scanning your finger you type in your security pin.

I'm amazed that some people think Apple invented this whole NFC payment thing when in reality they're at least three years late to the party.

I'm using ApplePay with my debit card now...yeah it has that big VISA/MC logo on it. I don't believe in using credit to make small purchases of 10k or less.

This used to be a smart choice. But frankly, these days, if you use a debit card you are costing yourself a ton of benefits.

With the right credit card you can earn points for everything you spend. These points can lead to substantial free stuff over time. I bought my first MacBook Air with points.

Many credit cards also extend warranties, return periods, and provide additional consumer protections on say rental cars and air fares, among other things.

Just the other day I was stranded in Atlanta thanks to a flight delay. My credit card company paid $350 for a hotel, meal, clothes and toiletries. Try finding a debit card that will do that.

If you pay off a credit card in full each month; no interest.

Link Bait

Where does it say Apple responds to the CVS controversy? They simply say that ApplePay is going smoothly and as stated from day one they will continue to add new merchants. So they are doing the opposite, not responding at all to the controversy. Nice link bait MacRumors.

this sucks! CVS is my go to place...guess not...not only because of no apple pay..but because of HOW THEY CONDUCT THEIR BUSINESS>

Agreed. I think even conservatives can agree that Rite Aid and CVS and these others should let the free market capitalism decide.

Since when is Apple Pay vs. CurrentC or Rite Aid/CVS/Walmart etc. vs Apple Pay retailers a partisan political conversation.

Debit is a safer system (when using chip and pin) and its less expensive than credit for any transaction over $10; for a $100 transaction, its 0.2%! Why don't they promote debit transactions from $10+ sales then if its only to stick in to the CC companies.

because as an end user of a credit card, the merchant feees are mostly irrelevant.

however:
Debit is direct to bank account. If you dont have the cash in the account, you are not completing the transaction.

Credit Cards often are available to many with no service fees. And many offer loyalty reward programs in return. My Credit Card for example, is Mastercard, and is ran through my bank/grocery (same company). I pay no service fee, works fully with any Mastercard compatible system (virtaully 99% of the world), has NFC built into the card itself, chip and pin for extra security and gives me 10% reward points on every transaction. Many transactions (if done in their stores) can provide upwards of 20%, and some times special offers of thousands of free points.

I have earned in the last 5 years of using my card around 2,000 of free stuff. it has cost me absolutely nothing extra.

Did anyone ask Apple if they will continue to allow the CurrentC app to be downloaded from the app store? If so, why?

And if this question was not asked, why not?

Have you seen the reviews for it on the apple store and play store? Leaving it there with the 1000's of 1 star reviews is way better then not having it in the store.

Aside from turning off NFC like Rite Aid and CVS have done, I don't know how retailers can "opt out" specifically from Apple Pay as the MR post states. I thought all NFC-enabled terminals were automatically compatible with Apple Pay. No Apple Pay = no NFC which means no Google Wallet, either. Am I mistaken?

I'd like to think that most iPhone owners wouldn't be seen dead at Walmart, but the weird thing about poverty is that you'll find those who can barely feed their kids who still find a way to have a new phone.

Also: CVS - no Apple Pay and no cigarettes. Walgreens it is, then!

My wife & I make a very good income and have owned several iPhones each including purchasing two original's - subsidy free.

I don't like what Walmart is doing here, but we also both shop there because they have some of the best prices on the items we routinely purchase. I look for the best value in groceries, staples, gas, etc. If Walmart can provide that to me with the same quality, I'll shop there. In no way does that mean that I can't afford to shop somewhere else, nor does it mean we exclusively shop AT Walmart. If you think the only people who shop at Walmart are those who can barely afford to feed their kids, you're certainly uneducated or highly uninformed. Just like income taxes, I'm sure most people don't volunteer to pay more than they have to.

Thanks to this story, I've now got a list of retailers I will no longer drop a nickel in.

On the West Coast of Canada ( even though :apple:Pay is not available yet )

Olive Garden
7-Eleven
Walmart
Old Navy
Sears
Esso/Exon
Shell
Wendy's
Target
Gap
Best Buy
Chili's

Best Buy is a puzzling one considering Apple was the first to set up micro stores within Best Buys and the fact that large portions of revenue for those stores comes from Apple products.

A technology retailer that's way behind in terms of technology and customer service....go figure.

that's just one in the long list of missteps that best buy has taken over the last couple of years... This is why they are circling the drain....
