It would just be petty imo to ban the app. However on the flip side retailers are banning Apple pay.

I like to think Apple and Google are above that petty crap. They should both leave the apps in their respective stores and let the cards fall as they will.

Wish V/MC/Amex would issue a statement that they are disappointed that the merchants are favoring a more insecure system by dropping NFC support for swiping. I feel like that would really give this some traction.

Except they're not declining money. They still accept cash and cards like just about every other business does and will continue to do for many years.

Eventually the revenues gained via customers paying with Apple Pay will be too great to ignore.

Found this on reddit, which is sourced from Wikipedia...

"Additionally, unlike credit card transactions, customers will assume liability for any fraud that may occur on their accounts."

Why would anybody use this garbage?

Yeah, Android and Mac can finally unite for a bit on this. I don't want to pay out of my bank account, and I sure as hell don't want to give these bums my SSN and Bank info. I use a couple different rewards credit-cards so even if CurrentC (Worst name EVER) works well - I'm not interested anyway!

The percentage of people who are refusing to shop at places that don't support Apple Pay is ridiculously low...

Most people would see they don't support Apple Pay, then pull out cash or cards.

The people calling for boycotts are what we call the vocal minority. It's as simple as that.

Credit cards won't go away. People want digital payments, they don't want to always carry cash. That's a large part of where payments have evolved to. You want to turn it to ACH / Debit as a way to sidestep CC companies. You somehow don't think CC companies should actually make money. CC companies make money in two ways: from merchant fees and from interest on unpaid balances. They also take risk on the issuing of credit and the potential default on balances which we know happens every day.

Another reason CC cards won't go away is that people like to spend money they don't have yet, and might not have for some time. ACH and Debit requires you to have the funds. In the U.S., we are increasingly a nation of debt. iPhone, Xbox, PS4, etc. Ring it up today, pay for it ....when?

It is possible that over time Apple could partner with banks to expand Apple Pay to use Debit cards. However, this would be far more likely for larger institutions like Wells Fargo, Bank of America, as your local regional bank where you have a checking account and Debit card are probably not going to be as easily able to sign up for Apple Pay Debit or as easily motivated to do so.
I'm using ApplePay with my debit card now...yeah it has that big VISA/MC logo on it. I don't believe in using credit to make small purchases of 10k or less.

Once again this thread does not fail to disappoint. Merchants you frequently shop you will now boycott because they don't take NFC payments. God forbid you take a stand against Walmart due to their working conditions or Nike for their slave-like labor tactics.

Actually, I do. I'm a very conscientious shopper. I know where my money goes, how it's used, and what alternatives are available. It's called "shopping smart-ly". If merchants are blocking another form of a more secure method of payment in order to support MCX, I will not patron their store. MCX systems data mine customer information that cannot be done with anonymous NFC tokenization (Apple Pay), and based on what we have all learned, these merchants will try to push this system onto buyers next year (without fraud protection).

Apple Pay does not block other payment methods, it's a safe alternative that banks are behind as it will cut down on security and fraud, thus a [small] cut of existing transaction fees merchants already pay is given to Apple (merchants are/will not paying more). I'd rather have a choice than have retailers dictate what payment methods I may use.

Apple Pay already supports most debit from the launch partner banks.

I'd like to think that most iPhone owners wouldn't be seen dead at Walmart, but the weird thing about poverty is that you'll find those who can barely feed their kids who still find a way to have a new phone.

???

I've shopped at Walmart for years. I owned a 3GS, a 4S, and I'll soon own a 6+. When I need something immediately (IE, the other day I needed folding chairs), the first place I go is Walmart. If what they have isn't good enough, I go to Target or a specialty store. No point in skipping straight to the specialty store when Walmart may have the same exact product at a cheaper price. I have no problem making ends meet - I just don't see a point in wasting money by not shopping at Walmart.

Apple Pay does work with Debit cards. Where have you been?

So the companies that support MCX and don't support Apple Pay are ones where I would never consider shopping anyway.

Walmart, is that a joke? Why would anyone with a decent self esteem shop in a store where they pay so little that employees need to apply for food stamps. There are much bigger reasons why you shouldn't shop at Walmart, and the fewer people that do the better. This just helps in that process.

Hobby Lobby, really? Nobody should shop at this religious organization that wants to dictate birth control to its employees. That business should be shut down, and their aligning themselves with MCX will hopefully assist with that endeavor.

Those who don't support Apple Pay can shove MCX up their collective rectum because I won't shop anywhere that doesn't support my chosen payment option. It's really that easy because there are plenty of alternatives. Vote with your dollars, as that is the only vote nowadays that seems to matter.

Most of the MCX members will accept Apple Pay as early as they can. Possibly earlier if they can figure out a way to break the agreement.

Is it either/or? Or can a merchant accept MCX and traditional NFC payments? I thought at least one of the merchants on Apple's list was also an MCX member.

Every time I've used :apple:Pay it was FLAWLESS.

The first couple times I literally laughed and shook my head. Amazing how simple, easy and fast it is.

Only Apple could make something like this. Really is the way of the future. :D

Well you could be short-changing yourself. Just pay it off every month. I use a Blue Cash Preferred for EVERYTHING and I pay it in full every month. Every Christmas I get a free $750 from Amex for doing absolutely nothing.

And that is fine if you are, and everything you say is true - I just fail to see how not taking NFC would make you boycott them any more. A boycott is a boycott.

Also a wee bit of irony that you'd rather have a "choice" when using an Apple product - I thought choice was only an Android user's luxury. :p

Wasn't sure if it did or not. Makes sense. However the other poster made it seem like it may not. Hadn't tried to add a debit card or really find out if it was supported. My point was more to the other poster re: cc companies as well as the notion of ACH.

However if you'd like an itinerary of my life over the last few weeks, please provide me with a federal subpoena. :D

It would be nice if I didn't have to have a huge iPhone 6 or 6+ to use Apple Pay, like if it worked with a flash stick that you kept on a key ring or something :)
