I have not noticed mine get hot once. And I've been using constanly since Friday.

Now my MacBook on the other hand... that guy gets hot.

While the temperature difference isn't much, it unfortunately crosses the only threshold that matters, and that is the temp of the iPad relative to the skin's surface temp. What this means is that the old iPads feel cool to the touch, but the new one feels warm. Regardless of the actual degress, that's a big difference, and for me and some others, a big deal.

Just curious, why is it a big deal?

I know, it's the humidity.

Nice.

While on the subject of March products...

Has there been any complaints about the new Apple TV running hot yet? I remember my first gen ATV being hot enough to fry an egg on. Just wanted to make sure before I upgrade to 1080p iTunes goodness.

Don't worry, cool as the proverbial cucumber.

Or...

"As we previously reported, the complaints about warmth or heat seem to vary from customer to customer and may be dependent on the mix of apps that are being used."

Or, it may be hypochondria. POV notwithstanding. Now, the heat may shorten the life of the device, the risk of burn or fire hazard is probably minimal. Mine gets warm, but no where near as warm as my 15" PowerBook did for a while and that was "normal". Jury is still out but I am guessing this won't be anything major.

The obvious problem here is that is no where as good as iPad, and it runs Android OS.

Well, it has faster CPU, stereo speakers, 2MP front facing camera, flash card support, Super AMOLED screen and it is 2x lighter than iPad so it is better than iPad in some respects.

This Is Ridiculous!!

You people complaing that 33.6C is hot are ridiculous!! My MacBook Air is running at 46C right now and I have to feel the bottom with the back of my hand to tell it is only SLIGHTLY warm!!! This ENTIRE freakout is STUPID!

a bit OT but just another example of how anti-Apple tech blogs are (and seem to be milking this heat issue for all it's worth): On the front page of cnet.com there is this:

When you click into the article you find it's a question from a reader basically wondering why the new iPad looks the same as iPad 2. Because OMG if someone can't tell it's different how will they know I have a shiny new toy? The response is quite reasonable and uses the if it isn't broke don't fix it mantra. So why that silly headline? If anything the fact a design doesn't change just proves how good Apple is when it comes to design. I guess I don't get why it's so important someone knows whether you have the new iPad or iPad 2? Just to show off that you have the latest and greatest shiny gadget? As far as I'm concerned the iPad 2 design is great. Why change it?

To be honest, it was the USB Power Adapter that was extremely hot for me.
I honestly thought it was going to catch fire, so I unplugged it.
Then, I noticed the "new" iPad was very hot also.
I'm hoping that a few battery cycles will stabilize whatever the issue is.

Where was the adapter and iPad while plugged in? I can't tell you how many times I've gone over to someone's house and seen a laptop or other device sitting on an upholstered sofa, chair or better yet on the bed while plugged in and/or the power adapter buried under or sitting atop insulating material. Got news. These devices are not meant to be used on upholstered surfaces. Heck, I wouldn't even call a laptop a laptop anymore because they get too hot without airflow or any heat dissipating surface under them.

So, if the ipad was charging on the bed or sofa and the adapter was in a less than ideally ventilated place then, yes, they will get hot enough to melt themselves and may catch fire. Not saying this was necessarily true in your case, but history teaches me to be skeptical of statements from others about how hot electronics get while charging.

It also runs an outdated OS.

Yes. If compared to ICF. It is not outdated if compared to iOS. While iOS catched up somewhat (after addition of Android-like notifications) it still has way to go. For example, it still lacks a File System and support for arbitrary screen sizes.

Why compare it to iOS? It's running an outdated Android OS. It's an Android tablet. The android version it's running is almost a year old, and Samsung hasn't made any kind of announcement if it's even going to get ICS have they? If you want a year old OS on a tablet that is nowhere near as smooth as the iPad 2 or new iPad, then yeh the tab is the best choice hehe :D

Do you work for Samsung or something? Which Samsung tablet similar in size to iPad is 2 times lighter? I'll give you the stereo speakers bu to the rest I say so what? AMOLED better than retina display? Seriously? The faster CPU....name a task Galaxy Tab performs better than iPad because of the faster CPU. I'd ask the same re: Transformer Prime and the quad core CPU the apple haters and tech geeks mention anytime they can.
