Anybody that reads the news about the economy, unemployment, gas prices increasing, real estate plummeting, etc.....

This is where the country's priorities lay

And congratulations to Apple for creating this hype, seriously, 5PM launch was to create this after not having it for Verizon iPhone launch.

Apple Executive: "See? We could still make lines of sheep wait"

I got my iPad 1 just 30 minutes after first availability. Paid for itself in 3 weeks.
I know a guy who figured buying one & giving it to a customer would way more than pay for it in subsequent sales.
I'm sure there are people who could make one pay for itself, plus the $900 "right now" fee, this weekend.
That's not immoral, that's leveraging business needs and payoffs.

not even the tsunami could prevent Steve Jobs from trying to capture Global domination with this iPad 2 launch....

mother-earth = 0
Jobs = 1

Whadayamean? It's what they did last time 'round. iPad 1 3G came out on a Friday at 5PM.

A lot of people do have money for one, time to stand in line a couple hours for it, and enthusiasm to do so. A lot of us who don't are still amused/intrigued by the notion. Nothing wrong with that.

Cushy. In my line of work, 50 hrs/weekly is considered weak.

Well we had it tough. We used to have to get up out of the shoebox at twelve o'clock at night, and LICK the road clean with our tongues. We had half a handful of freezing cold gravel, worked twenty-four hours a day at the mill for fourpence every six years, and when we got home, our Dad would slice us in two with a bread knife.

But you try and tell the young people today that... and they won't believe ya'.

50 hours a week is a little light. Now get back to work. :D

When I was an intern (in the not-so-distant past), we were required to work 120-130 hrs/weekly for pennies on the dollar.

Thankfully, this is my research year and I'm getting paid to play around on the computer all day.

By this time next week, I'll have my iPad 2 to mess around on!

Aventura Mall, FL

At approximately 12:30pm today: according to Apple retail store employee, line started to form yesterday!

I would certainly sell the first spot in line for $900. That's a no-brainer. Only some Apple fanboy sheep idiot wouldn't.

In cincinnati at Kenwood Mall, there are about 100-200 people in line. But, maybe less. There always seems to be tons of people in line when you're close to the end.

Some employee went down the line seeing what people wanted. Interesting, the black 64 gb 3G had the most hash marks next to it. There were about 20 hash marks.

Yup.. I went to my local apple store to see if I could check it out, and there it was: a huge line of people (at least 100).. Lined up in an indoor mall! Looked ridiculous really.. Should've taken a pic.. But it definitely looks to be a successful launch for Apple for sure. They are supposed to start allowing purchases at 5:00pm.

In two days they will be every where!

How does it feel to be a puppet of Steve? He could have released this the same way he released the new Macs!

And look no one even cared about the new Macs!

This shows you the way Apple is going, iPads, iPhones and iPods, NO more Macs!

What a waste!

More like 2 to 3 weeks they will be everywhere...they are everywhere right now..

target, walmart, bestbuy, SAMS..

Meh.

I, for one, prefer my iOS devices to be smaller and capable of making phone calls. :)

Yeah.. Obviously you for "one" lol you cant compare a phone to a tablet. That's like comparing shoes and roller blades. Similar but not the same at all.

Man... if you're going to "pitch a tent" over an iPad you really need to get a life! Or a girl friend! :p

My girlfriend is in the tent with me and guess what nastiness we're doing to pass the time. Don't come a-knockin' if you see my tent rockin'. :D

Well, now I'm not going to stand in line. I just went to Target and they have an exchange program. I got $247 for the iPad version 1 for today's version 2. They are accepting working iPods, iPhones, iPads, video games, etc. Apparently they send them to troops and other non-profit programs. Nice for everyone.

uh, they have sold over a million of the Mac Book Airs.

Nothing like the line for the launch of the Xoom! :p

Xoom ? What the hell is a Xoom???

A fool and his money are soon parted.

You must be a Tab or Xoom user, aren't you ????

drove past 2 stores here in LA on my way home for lunch. maybe 20 at one (there is an AT&T store and Verizon store across the streets with no one), and maybe 30-50 at the Grove. I am going to wait till about an hour before they close pop in and see if they still have any. drinking at a bar about a block away. Drunk purchases are the best. wonder how many more things I will end up with??

Yes. Get your finger out of your nose.

:D

$900 for the first spot? Wow, someone wants to pay around $1,500 for an iPad 2?

It sounds like much, but if you live in NYC maybe you are making $600.00 per hour. So now how do you feel about wasting your time in a line up knowing that you are losing more than the thing is worth just by wasting time in a lineup?

Time is the most valuable thing, not pieces of paper.

You can make more piece of paper money, but you can't replace time wasted in a lineup. (If you enjoy a lineup party, then OK, but I hate lineups personally - it's more convenient to pay off someone and get what you want and split the scene).
