There are 2 target employees one who doesn't know what models they have, and the other won't tell!! I really hope they have 16gb wifi white

I'm not so sure that you could write off an excessive expense....I believe that you can only write off the fair market value of the item.

If you're making $600 an hour living in NYC, it also costs you way more just to live there.

It doesn't matter how much money I make........I could never justify paying 3x the price of a product just to have it on the first day. I would feel screwed every time I used the thing.

If a friend of mine told me he did that, I would laugh at him no matter how much money he had.

Yes, some people would feel that way too, and sometimes waiting in line is a rush, but other times when you add up spending 5 hours in line to get something or even risk being turned away empty handed, you evaluate whether it's worth it to pay someone off. I never feel bad about money that is spent on stuff like this, and yeah, you can deduct business expenses too.

So it's really hard to judge anyone for what they do with their own money isn't it?

When someone says "must be nice" it bugs me. Damned commies Lol.

The first guy to get the new toy might also be the first to make the killer app for the new toy. What's that worth? For me personally it paid off incredibly well with the Apple Quicktake camera that enabled me to easily put photo's onto a website back in 1993! Without that expensively stupid Quicktake, I might never have had all the successes I had - just that one little thing did that for me.

So a guy who wants the iPad 2 might have his reasons to pay for it beyond what we are thinking about. Maybe the guy has to send it back to Motorola this weekend for some reverse engineering - then is it worth the $900.00 extra? haha.

Lol I read this from the line But 900$??? Someone's getting 2 iPads

talk about ROI

Hmmmm...maybe I should go to NY's flagship store next year just to make some quick cash. In reference to page 1, this is genius but a risk worth taking assuming you showed up like this woman did but without nary a dime to pay for the iPad. Somebody's obviously willing to pay for the #1 spot (as insurance and/or publicity). Hell, for that money you could still get a decent iPad plus accessories with a little change to spare. Not too shabby at all. Good for her.

In two days they will be every where!

How does it feel to be a puppet of Steve? He could have released this the same way he released the new Macs!

And look no one even cared about the new Macs!

This shows you the way Apple is going, iPads, iPhones and iPods, NO more Macs!

What a waste!

FAIL.

Apple sold a ton of MacBook Air.
New Quad Core MacBook Pro.
Apple computer is center of digital hub.

Really? This many people on an incremental update? I'll pass.

Or they are like me who passed on the first one and was waiting for this one knowing it would have a front facing camera and better stats. So to go from no tablet to this is hardly incremental!!

More great insights, along with the "when making $600/hr..." and "free publicity" posts. I like the way some think here (naysayers, not so much).

wow

Wow, it looks like I'll be able to saunter in Saturday morning and just pick one up. this is NOTHING!

900 is nothing to some people

If you are mega-rich (and not even Bill Gates is the richest man on earth...) $900 is like a quarter to us mere mortals. Yes, rich people can be spoiled, but the person who camped out received nearly enough $$$ to buy TWO new iPads. He/she could have probably held out for a little more. But he/she could have told the interloper to take a hike- this was capitalism in action. The cost of taking over first place is apparently $900. Both parties are likely happy with the results. All of this just helps create buzz for these great new products. It's hard to do anything really exciting in this country anymore- being first in line may be as good as it gets for some people- something to tell the grandkids someday (when there is an iPad XXXVI)...;)

I think I'm going to tattoo "I'll spend my money however the hell I want to" on my forehead.

In the meantime, my daughter called me about an hour ago - had to go to Best Buy for printer ink. There were about 20 people in line at that point.

Its good to know that whenever I'm down or feeling sorry for myself there's always at least two things I can do to feel better.

1. I can read my feedback on eBay where there are over 500 people that have good things to say about me.

2. I can bookmark stories like this of losers that would wait in-line for days for a product they could get within 24 hours anyway, but somehow decide to wait in the cold for three days in-advance instead, and feel good knowing I will never be that pathetic, desperate or stupid.

OMG I'm so going to buy his apps now!!!! It worked!

He spent $900 and talked to a reporter, and now a million (ok, lots) people know who Hazem Sayed is and are curious about his AskLocal app. If he makes just $1 off each of 900 people with this stunt, it paid off. 21 people have already used it enough to bother rating it, and that to 3.5 stars.

Smart move, Hazem.

Wow, people are pretty excited. Just got my dad an iPod touch and he's pretty amazed. I'm going to pick up a white iPad 2 for my mom to replace her 6 year old sony VAIO. Does everything she needs.

Where I live in Michigan, there aren't lines for anything so I won't have a problem walking into any of the numerous retailers. The only people lining up are ebay resellers.

Maybe all those people in the line up are being secretly paid by Apple to make it look like there is big interest in this iPad device. Pay everyone 20 bucks a head just to que in a line and make a big hullabaloo about this oversized calculator. Haha, ooops - one of the cloners in China already tried that one. Or was that the Zune?

Maybe Apple should make a transparent box where people can discard their Xoom devices. Haha - oops - Microsoft already tried that too - that was the Zune right? They had some iPod discard box, and put it on TV. What a joke.

People want this iPad 2. They are selling twice as many this weekend as compared to last weekend! AAPL is going to go up next week once this sinks in.

I sure want one. Too bad I'm going to have to wait. I really want to have my mom Facetime with the bigger screen.

I'm in line at the Apple store in Manhasset, NY. There are a few hundred people in line here, I'm thinking like 250 or 300. I figure I'm number 200. :(

...it's time for you to depart from Steve.

My local Apple store (Arden Fair Mall, CA) already has a line of 75+

Called my local Target and found out they have 5 iPads, all 64GB black WiFi...exactly the model I'm looking for. They offered to hold it for me, so I'll be able to get it right at 5 without waiting in line!
