Considering they again reported record sales of every device last quarter vs the previous year, there is no stagnation going on...but keep making up fake stats and stories.

Record overall sales, but the numbers in Europe were a problem no?

Just look at how they treat apple care staff... 8% discount + minimum wage. they are just as good as an apple genius.

This surprises me, considering how incredibly packed the stores are. Every single Apple Store I've been in (Dadeland, Lincoln Road, Aventura, both NYC stores) is so packed there's hardly room to walk around. How can they be laying people off?

This is just bizarre.

The stores are packed beacause there are too many hanger-on sales people. Make room for the customers!

Source?

How can MacRumors.com report on something like this and not name a single outright source for this report? I think MR is trying to make a mountain out of a molehill to get more readers.

Huge difference of "want to" and "can't". Tim Cook makes $52 million a year. No human deserves or needs that much money per year. He could be perfectly fine on half that (along with the millions and millions that the other execs make). Put the other half towards jobs. Not to mention the $117billion in cash they have sitting around. Absolutely no reason to lay anyone off at Apple. This quite frankly disgusts me.

I think that if we had people like you running a business, that it wouldn't be very profitable.

Dude just looked at her phone and said "yep looks good" and then she bought her plan. I am sure the GENIUS could have easily looked at the phone at the cash register....

It doesn't take an Apple Genius more than 5 mins to look at a phone. Booking an appointment for that is just stupid.

So, the 40 other people who went to apple.com/storenamehere and booked appointments ahead of time should wait because your friend didn't have the foresight to do the same.

Not to mention, the consideration for those who did. She should just jump to the front of the line because she decided to just drop in to the store?

To everyone pointing out that Apple is a business and layoffs are necessary: obviously this is true, however, Apple is a large company that plans things in great detail. If they envisioned difficulties or problems for retail which entailed they couldn't keep the amount of staff on, then why would they hire people in the first place? Obviously they don't owe anyone a job, but it's a cruel waste of time to basically give people a job, train them up, and let them go so soon. It shows a huge failing on their part. They really do have the luxury of not making these mistakes with all the research and planning that goes into their business. They should have seen this coming.

It seems everything on the internet these days is click bait.

Dear god, I very nearly applied for a job with them a couple of months back.. Very sad news, but I'm glad I came to my senses and stayed where I am

I considered applying at an Apple Store few years ago but, thankfully, decided against it. Working for Apple would likely make me hate the company as Apple worship is part of the job description.

I like and enjoy many of their products, but all that cult of Apple/Steve Jobs stuff is creepy and ridiculous. Apple cultists are suckers who have swallowed Apple's (ie Steve Jobs'), admittedly very talented, marketing schtick hook, line and sinker. The result is borderline mental illness.

The foaming-at-the-mouth Apple fanboi vs. Fandroid battles are hilarious. Anybody who gets emotionally attached to a corporate enterprise needs to seriously examine their psychology. Or get laid more often. :D

Apple retail is basically one big cock tease. They promise jejune upstarts all this stuff, all this opportunity to move up the ranks, but they never deliver on it. In this case the show has been stopped for these people before it begun, but even if they weren't fired they would be promised a whole lot more. The retail stores need to stop promising their employees promotions and all the other ******** they're never going to follow through on. Then they can act how they want.

And that is why they are reducing or laying off people in the UK.

My point is that they can ramp up or down depending on demand...but that person is making a false statement about declining i-devices which just isn't accurate or true.

Apple didn't get to where they are as the #1 company in the world with being idiots about their cash and business.

RE: Reurope...it's a ***** mess. Socialism at it's finest.

Companies should pay employees what they're worth, and show some loyalty to them by not cutting them off on a whim.

Everyone is paid what they are worth.

If their skill is in demand and commands a higher price, they will get more money from their current employer or a new employer.

Thats what you get for hiring a guy from Dixons. Welcome to a job in retail, circa 1997.

The next new idea will be selling AppleCare for "peace of mind" and giving the Apple Store employee a nice wodge of commission for doing so.

Should have seen WHAT coming ?

How do you know the layoffs are not regarding something that Apple sees coming in the next months ?

-t

I worked for them for 5 years and this is irresponsible HR work at its finest. If Apple sees something coming in the next months, they would have anticipated it before hiring people. By the way, if something is coming in a few months time to change things greatly, then they can fire people then. This is nothing to do with fears of the economy, it's just a new management team cutting costs and trying to make themselves look good to corporate. They don't have the companies interests at heart, I promise you.
