So, essentially you want a Mac in tablet form? The question then bears: why? What advantages to you hope to gain from that form factor expect maybe touch? Macbooks have gotten so thin and lightweight, they're essentially tablets supporting all of the above. Maybe you're just not the target group for a tablet? Which is perfectly fine, but why do you sound offended about that?
Maybe I really just don't get it.
If it weren't for my need for Endnote, I could easily do all my writing on an iPad (with a proper keyboard). I can prepare and give presentations. With LR for iOS, I can develop and edit my RAW photos. Even PS is coming to iOS. My husband has been editing videos on his iPad. We use iPads for fieldwork (marine ecology). I know iPads are being used in the medical and educational sectors.
Which of those is not "serious work"?
