$3499 for something that does even less than a Quest 2 headset. Ouch.

"But just think of the costs of buying a TV and surround sound alone"... A) Pretty sure I could buy both for less than that and B) How are other people in the room going to watch with me? Do we all just want to live alone in a one bedroom apartment? Is that the end goal? It's so depressing.
A full surround sound setup that isn’t cheap is much more than that. A good receiver alone is around that price.…
and that’s just starting to get into the middle to high end receivers. Let alone speakers

Yeah no. I don't think they did enough to sell that price. It has a few party tricks sure, but other more established VR kits cost significantly less and can do most of this.

This is by far the most enjoyable topic ever. So great laughs today.

You could take your 4 person family to the real Disney World for 5 days for $3499.
And most of the folk who can afford to do so will.

Nobody's making you buy this device, geez

It very well may fail. Maybe the chips aren't power efficient enough for such a device, maybe it still is a device looking for a use case...none of us know.

Apple has taken a gamble and we're the witnesses to see how it will go.

It’s an amazing product! But not many people will be able to afford the first generation. Over 5k AUD is insane. But it’s truly innovative and breathtaking in my view. If I was single and didn’t have kids and a mortgage and bills, I would pre order this in a heartbeat

This made me sell my Apple stock. I know I might be wrong, but the 52 week high it hit with all the excitement over this VR release is, I think, going to prove to be misplaced.

Hey, Baba Booey! I know you've said the iPad was a bit of a stumble, so you'll probably be wrong about this too.

All these 20th Century boys frothing at the price smh

"Five hundred dollars fully subsidized with a plan! I said that is the most expensive phone in the world and it doesn't appeal to business customers because it doesn't have a keyboard, which makes it not a very good email machine .... I like our strategy. I like it a lot....Right now we're selling millions and millions and millions of phones a year, Apple is selling zero phones a year. In six months, they'll have the most expensive phone by far ever in the marketplace and let's see ... let's see how the competition goes."

Let's see.

You really get what you pay for. I suppose if you want some extra storage and custom lenses it will be over $4000. I think for a device like this we will have to go to an Apple Store and try it out ourselves. It's very interesting, but I don't see myself using it outside the house. I already hate it when I see people at a restaurant constantly staring at their phones. Can't wait to see people that have it strapped to their faces while being "social" on "social media" 😛

Still, it's a big leap in VR/AR. Nothing else is coming even close at this time.

I want reoease 2 of this, but I want the functionality badly enough to not wait that long.
But will it really make my vhs rips of One Crazy Summer, Real Genius, Stacey Donovan & Ghostbusters look $3500 more realistic, so I can sit alone in my quiet apartment basking in the illusion of a sunnier time, & forget that the last 40 years never happened? Isn’t that all I really want…

Not gonna lie that looks awesome. Nothing even comes close to the tech that's inside it and only Apple could pull something like that off. Suck on that Facebook!!

BUT it is a 1st gen product! It'll probably take a good few gens to mature.

2 hour battery life??? LOL

$3500 ... no thanks.

Not one presenter wearing or using the product as part of the announcement. And tc not walking on the stage wearing them.

For what they announced I don’t think the price is insane. The problem is they didn’t explain why it needs to exist. At the end they mentioned replacing monitors. But does Tim really think people will replace their computer monitors and TVs with a bulky headset?

My biggest question is whether this device is like an iPhone or iPad.....or like a Mac - is it built for a single user can it be shared? It's incredibly frustrating that still today iPadOS hasn't been updated to support multiple users.

It seems much cooler than I imagined, but it was already out of my price range at the rumored $3K. That real price shocked me! Definitely niche, which is too bad.

Amazing revelation of the Age of Aquarius we currently live in. Now what do all those Macrumors forum commenters have to say - the ones who said "I can't see what this is for or how it would succeed"? You officially are without vision or imagination and maybe need to open your minds more.
