unlike many, i’m excited for the new product and it’s commercial value. Imagine 3d virtual tours while shopping for a home, how about furnishing a new home with furniture before you buy and looking around. As with many things when it comes to apple, they create the device and the software folks figure out what we are going to need and want.
The see endless possibilities using this with my mortgage business and once Share with remote user becomes available, then my clients and i can interact in ways not yet imagined. For biz use, wow, the first to adapt are going to be the early winners.

This made me sell my Apple stock. I know I might be wrong, but the 52 week high it hit with all the excitement over this VR release is, I think, going to prove to be misplaced.
And the stock dropped right as they announced it.. I had the same thought

The comments here are funny.

50% of people apparently don't follow tech outside of Apple and think that this is something new and innovative that will change the world.

50% of people have seen this VR stuff fail for the past decade again and again and again. There is very little new technology here, even the usecases shown by Apple are the exact same.

Now it's several times more expensive than the competition that has already shown that consumers aren't interested in clunky, large, ridiculously looking VR headsets?

Good luck, lol. I was expecting some sleek, everyday glasses for AR purposes that overlay info while you are out and about. Not the 15th attempt at VR.
Oh, you seem to have missed another "50% of the people here" who have followed all of this tech and see how this differs. I was chuckling as they showed all the use cases that were shown before but were never quite as promised or fizzled out completely. This is EXACTLY Apple's product methodology, this will be the first time you see a company actually get this right.

No controllers, a company with retail stores focused on fit and comfort, no screen door effect, interaction with an already established ecosystem - the more Apple devices you have, the more appealing the product.

I did not expect glasses as I've "kept up with tech outside of Apple" which you seem to have not done very well.

Apple has taken a gamble and we're the witnesses to see how it will go.
A gamble that appears to be predicated on an isolating pandemic context in which demand was high for remote video applications. But the pandemic is over. The other big players are reducing their investments in that kind of tech.

It looks to me as if Apple is WAY out over their skis with this thing.

It is. I have one foot in the super excited circle and the other in the "holy crap, this is the dystopian future we have seen repeatedly for the past 40 years".
That's exactly where I am: there is absolutely no doubting the technical brilliance of this and the tech enthusiast in me is very, very excited. However, on the flip side I can see a future where people completely stop interacting IRL and do everything virtually. If you think people are over immersed in their phones now then, as the saying goes, "you ain't seen nothing yet"

Three and a half grand.

One nice thing about VisionPro: no need to deal with a separate hardware controller (though I think there may be an option for one). Just that is a big improvement over the Meta devices.

It should go from being a goofy device to a neat pair of glasses. I'll check again in 15 years. ✌️

This will be great on flights. I did not think about it until I saw the ad. Airlines could buy them and rent them if they figure out a way to sanitize them. People might not pay $3500 for one but would probably pay $50 to use them on a longer flight. At 100 or more per plane they could sell tens of millions just to the airlines.
$3500 to start. Like 4K and Hi Res TVs before them theyll just keep going down to be mass appeal products.

They used the word "magical" an awful lot. And every time they did my mind immediately followed it up with "...and boy have we patented it!"

Oh... they filed over 5000 patents. Well, it was funnier when Steve said it.

Also, I propose a few rules if they want to use "One More Thing..."
1. It must be Steve that says it.
2. There must be a live audience.
3. It would help if there was an interesting and/or useful product to talk about.
(Rules 2 and 3 are moot considering rule #1.)

what's the FOV of the vision pro? Is it going to feel like looking through a periscope at everything or will it have a wide fov?

This isn’t really a vr set. What other device does what this does?

It's not about the device... it's about the usefulness of it.

There are ZERO use cases Apple presented that are compelling that the Quest can't already do (movies and games). You completely missed the point of my post:

NO ONE WILL USE ADOBE LIGHTROOM ON THIS

Or any other "app" for that matter.
Agreed. Word? Excel? Lightroom? Notes?

I get the industrial stuff like 3d modelling etc etc but that’s it really.

it’s world changing, sadly the battery is a problem so we will have to wait for future interactions. Amazing product, Apple knocked it out of the park, if it fails, it will be because of the price and apps available. All steaming companies are going to jump into the train, they can charge +50% for Apple vision content, and music concerts and immersive trips, etc.

and my 2D movies.....I'm sorry Apple....let's see what the stock market thinks: View attachment 2212685
not happy?

You haven’t really followed Apple stock for nearly long enough. The stock almost always gets a small boost just before an event and falls a bit after it finishes. And every time, there’s someone saying the stock is falling because the keynote flopped. Nothing new here.

For the second time, Apple has released something new which I have absolutely no interest in. The first was the HomePod. I expect a similar level of success for this product.
