A full surround sound setup that isn’t cheap is much more than that. A good receiver alone is around that price.…
and that’s just starting to get into the middle to high end receivers. Let alone speakers
difference is only you can watch and experience it. so for a single person, sure - greatest device ever. for a family or couple... can't say the same

Such a cool device, the price will absolutely hold it back though especially with todays struggling economy.
everybody says this economy struggling, recession coming like lemmings off a cliff. employment numbers have gone up every month for last 6 months or so in USA. Inflation was cost-push not demand-pull, COvid-19 supply issues, esp China and JIT production, Russian invasion of Ukraine impact on energy prices, and profit taking by corporatinos lifting their margins significantly under the cover of supply chain issues and general economic disruption (anticipating inflation can cause inflation!).

DOA. Keeping this monster afloat will cost Tim a lot of money. Who in the right mind would wear such a stupid and useless thing is beyond my understanding. Target group - Army, Disney parks, people living alone. Apple you have lost it. Now back to my dream where Apple ressurected Aperture ….

apple has lost their mind in pricing.
There will be a lite version in the future I am sure. There is already plenty of cheap to medium priced VR headsets. Just copying that wouldn't have cut it. They had to go big. Back in the day people said that Apple had lost their mind for selling a $600 phone. Look where we are now.

That's exactly where I am: there is absolutely no doubting the technical brilliance of this and the tech enthusiast in me is very, very excited. However, on the flip side I can see a future where people completely stop interacting IRL and do everything virtually. If you think people are over immersed in their phones now then, as the saying goes, "you ain't seen nothing yet"
I'm not so sure I will complain getting onto an airplane where everyone is completely lost and catatonic in their VR headsets...but this has no place in any other social situation.

This is how it’s going to be in 2024.

This product just proves that battery tech needs to catch up. It hasn't changed much , and this is an example. Could you image all day battery on this with the same size battery? the quest is the same thing 2-3 hours

I’m not going to lie. I had 0% interest before they announced it. Now I have 95% interest. This is the worlds first Micro oled 4K , build in surround sound, magnetic 🧲 battery pack, AR/VR, all metal design, solid build computer with two chips!
Over 4K per eye! Incredible. What is the PPI of that? They said 64 pixels in the space of 1 iPhone pixel… is that 29,440...? Surely my math is wrong…

I am curious how well they scan the real world and how fast do they do it. I do want to see on in person to see how clear they look. I think everyone has tried meta or steam vr and understands how small of a viewing area you have and how the resolution is far from real world.

Can you remap the world on the fly like in the Sword Art Online movie, I doubt it but who knows what is possible with this hardware.

It certainly looks cool, but without a real demo, or better a week long “dry run” this will be hard to sell

When in comes out in mid 2024 (just a guess it will be late), I'll try it at an Apple Store. But I still see no reason to want this product. Wait and see, not much else to do.

The technology and pricing isn’t there yet for mainstream adoption. In a few years, the negative replies here will age as badly as the iPod/iPhone/iPad/Apple Watch naysayers comments did.

Please show me the mainstream demand for interacting with the world through a screen that obscures your entire field of vision.

Do you really think that people are clambering to live life under a helmet like Mandalorians?

This allows you to put screens of any size in any room. No more large screen TVs with messy cables and requiring physical space, no need for physical computer monitors. You only need to strap on Vision Pro and you have the screens you need that can be resized on-the-fly. Really cool you can connect your Apple Keyboard and Trackpad to the experience.
But it's for you and you alone. Can't watch with friends or family unless everyone has one.

I don't like watching tv and movies alone. I enjoy other people, and with this, all those people have to buy a headset.
