The interactive stuff, movies, and the meetings stuff are its killer apps. Apple seems to have gotten those "right." Of course, for $3500 I will never know.

I have PSVR2 where you can do fun stuff like playing AAA games, alone or online. And nowadays I don’t use it more than once a week or two weeks. I‘d love to try this tech, Apple Store experience will probably be enough to satisfy my needs. New tech is cool, but it’s a long way to incorporate it to our lives. With that price (probably justified for 1st gen) they only make it harder. It’s not like Apple, a multibillion company couldn’t take loss with every sold device, like SONY with Playstation 5 PSVR2 runs on DOES.

Please show me the mainstream demand for interacting with the world through a screen that obscures your entire field of vision.

Do you really think that people are clambering to live life under a helmet like Mandalorians?
Your field of vision is clearly obscured already. Apple clearly and specifically stated in the keynote that the device does not obscure field of vision.

Leading up to this announcement, I was pretty certain the $3k was a planned rumor for a pricepoint that would land somewhere shy of that planned figure. You know, surprise and delight. I was wrong. And not in the way I expected. When they started listing high-end TV sets, audio components, cameras... I began to think the $3k was real. Then the $3,499 hit and I was like "wow." Again, unexpected.

That said, this is a pretty interesting take on the whole heads-up display. This is so much more a new Apple display than anything. One of the features for which I was hoping, was the ability to pair my MBP to Vison Pro for an unparalleled viewing experience. "The era of spatial computing" indeed. But I do wonder how, say, editing 4k video in FCP on a MBP, using Vision Pro as the display, will function. I think about latency and other things. K wonder about mixing multi-track audio and the latency of the display and fidelity of the onboard speakers, will function. Anyway, it remains to be seen requirements for all the wizardry they shared today (i.e: Vision Pro as Mac display will require a minimum of an M2-equipped Mac). But I look forward to learning more. Looks like we'll have several months to discuss, debate, scream and holler. Despite the fact I am not in a position to drop $3,500 on this, I do find it super interesting and look forward to the platforms development. Wheel people here are going to have a FIELD DAY with this keynote, understandably so, the potential of the platform is far more interesting than most here were suggesting. The next decade is going to be wild.

I think it looks great - just not at the price. They spent a lot of time showing off personal uses so I was secretly hoping for a more consumer friendly price. Oh well.

For the second time, Apple has released something new which I have absolutely no interest in. The first was the HomePod. I expect a similar level of success for this product.
I will put it more on the level of the Apple TV. Those of us who want it have been tinkering with all of the cheap junk thrown at us for years and Apple has finally stepped in to change it all.

That's exactly where I am: there is absolutely no doubting the technical brilliance of this and the tech enthusiast in me is very, very excited. However, on the flip side I can see a future where people completely stop interacting IRL and do everything virtually. If you think people are over immersed in their phones now then, as the saying goes, "you ain't seen nothing yet"
to be honest I am not sure it is worse than a phone. people already have stopped interacting IRL, but more interacting digitally.

Like the apple watch or even airpods, this'll take a few years to catch on. But it's hard to say if it'll be transformative (defining a new market) or an add on to the apple ecosystem

And to anyone saying VR, this is AR and considering the power inside the machine, 3500 is not that crazy. Obviously it is crazy, you are better off spending this money on a holiday, but considering this is an Apple product... it's not that crazy, they sell $2K phones...

Just ordered a second Mac Studio Ultra, pretty good deal considering the power consumption.

Apple sells single displays for more than Vision Pro. The pricing is far from unreasonable.

Meta has to be sh$%ing their pants. And all these negative comments😝. Once app developers get ahold of this thing and the price comes down, it will be a huge hit. I am tempted to get one next year just to be an early adopter and marvel in the tech. Not having to use a console or controller is wild!

I would totally get this is there was a need. The phone was needed.

This is a crazy thing in search of a need. BUT I'm thinkin in a few years the need will be real, so there's that. (that's 4 needs, btw)

Wow color me disappointed to say the least. It's just a glorified Quest, sure the specs are much better but it's also 10x the price. I didn't see a SINGLE use that any other existing VR headset couldn't do. I also only saw the intro from Apple, they didn't mention any AR features at all, is there another presentation on AR? I had high hopes for this, but as is it's going to flop HARD.

I've been buying Apple products since the 1980's.... I'm a HUGE Apple fan. My whole ecosystem is Apple.

But the delusion of some people on these forums is just mind-blowing.

"This is going to destroy the big tv and projector market" - People like to watch TV and movies together.

"Will absolutely crush any Quest model at gaming" - That would require actual good games for this. At a price-point gamers (mostly late-teens and 20's) can afford for a device.

That's my thinking. This is like the iPhone if it were released in 2001. The tech is there at the extreme bleeding edge, but it just costs too much right now. In five years it'll be much more affordable and everyone will be wearing slim Nano or Air variants in different colors.
If AirPods Max are $550, how is a device that is capable of sound, vision, computing, 3D image capturing, M2 performance, etc not worth 3 grand?

But yeah cheaper versions (Air?) are underway for sure.
