Have you ever used a current VR headset? They’re genuinely dreadful. The Quest 2 has one of the jankiest UIs I’ve ever used. The hand controls require extremely exaggerated movements and still barely work. They’re awful.
The Quest 2 is a $300 fully wireless product. lol.

This is clearly targeted at a certain sector of the market. Plenty of them live on this website.

What in the world are you talking about? There were AR features ALL over the place, more so than VR features.

AGAIN, I said I only viewed the intro video, that's why I was asking if there was an AR video out there. I'll just search it up on YT.

I don't get it. Nice hardware, but most examples are just flat 2D-screens in space, the most boring experience in VR/AR. What's the killer app? And btw no controllers means no easy ports of existing games...

Let me ask you a question.

Do you think in 100 years when we are all long gone and dead some implementation AR/VR(googles or not) will be a popular thing?(assuming we don't blow ourselves up before then)
Yes, almost certainly.

It will either involve something like this where the glasses are no more obtrusive than eye glasses, or where the displays are projected rather than worn.

This reminds me way too much of devices used in stories where we *have* blown ourselves up. Ready Player One, at least one Star Trek episode comes to mind, though I can't remember all the details. An alternate, dystopian version of the ship, has lost its holodecks and stuff, they are using a (still much smaller, wireless) device like this to escape their dystopian reality. The alternate captain wears it . . . in his death scene, while the ship blows up around him.

This is not the next iPhone. If anything, it's the next Newton. It does undeniably cool things that won't be mass adopted for another 15-20 years when the devices that do what it does look and act very different. Sure it everyone will agree the original was prophetic, but they won't won't want to use it.

This is 5-10 years away, and they have to start somewhere ...

I will admit I was more impressed than I thought I would be.....But STARTING at $3499.....

And for all of the 'Big Ugly Goggle' people- 6th Generation fighters also use big ugly helmets, guess that means they suck.Maybe someday you can shrink everything down to regular sized glasses, but that day ain't today.

I don't think I will be standing in line to buy one, just can't justify the cost....but I wouldn't mind owning one.

I think these look pretty amazing. I’m a little surprised by all the hate.

Ahh, what am I saying, this is MacRumors, everyone is going to crap all over it, but it’ll still mysteriously fly off the shelves and be on back order for months.
I'm expecting far more than MacRumors haters who hate it because Apple sells it - this is going to have the same kind of Apple Watch memery and jokes going until it's just so common the jokes don't make sense anymore.

I have PSVR2 where you can do fun stuff like playing AAA games, alone or online. And nowadays I don’t use it more than once a week or two weeks. I‘d love to try this tech, Apple Store experience will probably be enough to satisfy my needs. New tech is cool, but it’s a long way to incorporate it to our lives. With that price (probably justified for 1st gen) they only make it harder. It’s not like Apple, a multibillion company couldn’t take loss with every sold device, like SONY with Playstation 5 PSVR2 runs on DOES.
Why would they want to rush this to consumer market with little third party support? I’m sure they will start selling this at much thinner margins when this has a little bit more time to mature.

I’m still processing what I saw. If it’s as good as they claim, maybe $3500 is a good price. If it’s some ******** I dunno. I feel that Jobs wouldn’t have approved this price though….also this better be demoed in the Apple Stores and Best Buy at least a month or two before launch.

I am old enough to remember when decades ago that VR devices were declared as the next big thing in computing. Here we are years later and they are no more compelling a prospect now than they were then. But congratulations on Apple jumping on the bandwagon.

Looks like a nice first crack, actually. Wake me up when there’s a release with 3nm (or less) processor, 8K+ resolution, a bit less bulky, and under $2000. Going to be a hell of a product someday. Remember the MacBook Air gen1 with SSD was just as outrageously priced… it eventually became the GLOAT (greatest laptop of all time) 😂

They also were really careful to limit its use in public places.
I'll keep my powder dry until you've finished moving the goal posts.
Is the front of the unit CLEAR? No. Your field of view on this thing is completely obscured by a screen that you view an image of reality through.
I regret to inform you that you are, in fact incorrect sir. Do you even Keynote bruh?
