This thing better have balcony detection software. This thing is a hermits delight. I'll wait for the model that can 3d map my entire home so that it can augment it with better looking stuff. I don't watch much tv alone and youtube ads as well as any other ad is going to be horrible in this thing. Torture. Its made watching youtube very annoying and I don't want these thing popping up in my face with this thing.

Let me get this straight; I commented on your original post to asked you a line of questioning about when you think AR/VR will start to be widely adopted. You then edit your post AFTER with information I was looking for and then get snarky with me about trying to expose you because I didn't read the newly edited part 🤣

Are you being serious or is this a massive troll?
No, that's not to the original comment.

Pay attention and stop trying to win the internet. No one is trolling you, no one cares about you that much.

The technology is impressive but Apple has lost touch with reality. Extremely expensive niche product, it will undoubtably be cool as hell the try out, but real-world usage will not be there. They went "all in" on VR, and because of the time involved in development, (7 years?) they are not where they need to be with this.

I was really expecting an AR product, not a VR product, and I think they could have done much better with a less complex, lighter, better-looking and cheaper product.

On modern sucky air flights (air travel having deteriorated every year for 50 years) even a 16" MBP is a challenge to use in coach class. This headset plus AirPods would appear to far surpass the MBP performance while being head-worn instead of overfilling cramped space between passenger and seatback in front. Carrying a spare iPhone-size battery or two would be no big deal.
I use a 12.9“ ipad, with AirPods Pro which work very nicely for full transatlantic flights.. even spatial audio adds value. I can also imagine that we MIGHT get some types of airline regulations for this type of product use while in flight. At least at certain times.. no take off or landing, or possibly when required to be seated..not sure, but I won’t be surprised.

Until someone reaches real revolutionary breakthrough in battery tech... these devices are primitive

Because it is inherently how the device works. I can't say "Hey Bob, come take a look at my code" with this headset. He can't come over to my desk and see it. But a monitor he can! Monitor inherently is open, which is why some people working on sensitive details get the add on or specific monitors to block stray eyes from viewing information.
Sure you can, Bob doesn't have to be in the same country or office, Bob will be sat on his armchair chillin'

People said exactly the same thing about the iPhone, iPad and AirPods...
I remember all the adolescent giggling at the name "iPad". As if note pad, legal pad, launch pad and many more didn't exist. Then it was "It's just a big phone" LOL. I think this will do pretty well, but I don't think anyone expects iPhone level sales. For those that have a use or desire for it it smokes the competition.

My wife got very excited at this keynote so we figured how we are going to get two of them. We cancelled our Hawaii vacation after Thanksgiving and no presents for her for two years. Done.

Apple, We are ready with our money. Take it please!!!

My wife wears glasses which were addressed with magnetic attachment lenses. I don’t wear glasses because I had my eye lenses removed because of cataracts and replaced with Tri-focal lenses. Poof!!!! No more glasses needed.

But, I wear hearing aids which go behind the ear. That was not addressed but I hope that the band will be able to handle my hearing aids without pressing painfully on my earlobes.

Also, all demos used only one person. What happens when my wife and I are wearing the VisionPro headsets and sit together on the couch?

So many questions, so many things to discover. This is exciting. This is better than the iPhone unveiling in 2007.

My bet? They wanted software companies to develop very advanced software, and even killer apps, for this but they refused. By releasing the half cooked product they hope to get software companies on board.

That's because unlike Steve, all Tim cares about is the stock price. Steve made you believe in what he was demonstrating. He made you believe that he truely cared about the product.

Tim is the polar opposite. That's why he rarely does anything other than talk about coustomer sat ratings, money, stock value etc. He has his minions do the work he should be doing.
Tim Cares about the stock, sadly because that is how he is compensated overwhelmingly… Steve, for the past quarter century really didn’t have much stock. In the end, he made all his money off Pixar and later Disney… Disney is where his family received the majority of their money after his death. I doubt in the end Steve had more than 1-2B in Apple equity if that.

I work alone in my office all day. There are a lot of people who aren't actively engaging others during their work. In fact, I'm more likely to collaborate remotely with a worker than face to face, and this seems to give me a better experience with that.

So many people are envisioning narrow use cases for this device, and are completely missing that it's an entirely new general use computing platform.

Apple might be betting on home workers for adoption. In a home office environment, it just about makes sense from a work perspective. But you still need other people to be part of the AR to get the most from it. On its own, it's basically just some screens strapped to your face, letting you do iPhone and iPad-like stuff.

This is very true. That's why I'm primarily going to use this in the "big Mac display mode" rather than vision OS's built in software. That way if I need to show someone something I can just switch back to my physical display.

Whatever do you mean? If Bob has a headset too, you could do exactly that. Except that Bob can be in another room and not even get up from his chair.

This bit felt a bit dystopic to me. I wouldn't really want to see a friend at their house and chat to them like this!

The weirdest part of the presentation to me was when it showed that guy sitting on a couch looking at a 3D photograph of his wife and child. It looked like the beginning of an action movie reminiscing about his dead wife and child who were murdered by the mob or something.

Yup. It's literally part of Minority Report. Tom Cruise looking at photos of his dead wife and kids, while on drugs to make it feel more real.

It's ripped straight from Tom Cruise looking at the holographic memories of his kid in Minority Report.

I would imagine it takes quite a while to not only make an entire new app, but also make an entire new app that makes good use of XR space. That's practically brand new tech, the Quest doesn't really have productivity apps. It's a similar story with games. There are still 8 months for them to cook things up, especially for the ones warned in advance who already started.
