It looks interesting, but I'm still very skeptical about this product and how it will shape the future. Just imagining meetings with a bunch of people with headsets seems wacky or a family movie night with headsets.

Did they ever say what the refresh rate is? All I see is a mention of a 12ms sensor delay, which is roughly 82. That would be kind of wild, even the Quest 2 can hit 90 in some circumstances.

This isn't a conversation about the semantics of augmented reality versus virtual reality - the conversation is about whether the device "completely obscures the user's field of vision". Which it does not. Watch the sizzle reel/advert with the Father playing football with his daughter in their kitchen. Whilst he is wearing the device. That would not be possible with completely obscured field of vision.

It does. Everything you see inside it comes to you through a screen. Two screens that encompass your entire field of vision. Looking at your living room through a camera is not the same as looking at your living room.

LOL. Sure. That was literally said about a certain $599 phone when it launched in 2007 too. Your post will not age well.
Technically at the time, the iphone was $999, but only sold with specific carrier contracts, which locked consumers in for 24 months and paid apple a $400 bounty per device, making the out of pocket for the wireless consumer $599 ( I think technically $499) plus tax… That’s about $1500 pre-tax in todays dollars. All of this was more abroad.

Not really. It was Facebook and Twitter.

Apple created the tool by bettering (by a lot) an existing technology, but it’s those two companies that created the “always glued” scenario.

Apple perfected the tool where brains could receive their constant barrage of dopamine stimulation. Don't get me wrong, I'm just as bad of a doom scroller as anyone else. But all this talk from Apple that you shouldn't be on your device too long, behind closed doors they are really thinking of new ways to keep your eyes on your Apple device. New for 2024, strap 2 4k screens inches away from your eyes! Man how glorious is doom scrolling going to be in 2024?!?!

I personally did not expect this to be an affordable device for the masses, so while the price is very high, I am not shocked or mad at it. I was however surprised at the impressive tech that was put into this, so maybe the margins aren't that fat and the price will come down dramatically with future iterations.

I see the first few versions of the Vision Pro as a high-end product for people with large disposable incomes (or high credit lines). Kind of like the very high-end watch industry. They aren't mass produced and only a select few will actually be able to get the one they want. And the buyers know this and it's part of the draw. Owning something high-end and sought after but not in the hands of the masses is part of the appeal for many. Kind of like haute couture, which is made for the runway, never to see store racks - special order only. These high end products and concepts help the brand image more than anything else.

I see the Vision Pro as Apple getting their feet wet and seeing where the market goes. Remember, they 'don't ship junk', so some may suggest that releasing this now is a gamble, but it's a risk that Apple clearly wants to take to see how their massive base reacts. This is not a product for me, but I may feel differently when the market and tech matures.

Apple may need to be patient and keep at it. If there is a Vision Pro 3 with longer lasting (even embedded) batteries and a ton of apps available at the $1999 price-point in the not so distant future, it will for sure broaden its appeal, if Apple can get there. You don't release a product like this, with this much R&D and time spent on it only to dump it if it's not a huge success out of the gate. I am thinking this is going to sell like the the $12K+ Mac Pros, and the $6K XDR Displays - for now.

Apple got your money when you bought their device. It's not them who are trying to find ways to keep your eyes on it.

Yep. People need to understand the ending of Ready Player One to understand how serious this can get. I fully see a world where nobody interacts in person anymore and it's very scary. Plus with Meta trying to shove Metaverse. Virtual Walmart shopping? Really?! Even doing that is more social than isolation.

I feel like society is slowly turning into the movie Elysium minus the space station (I imagine they are already working on that).

App would still not be fully beneficial. Subconsciously you would still know you are alone. Even if you aren't practicing vs the real thing is still a hurdle. It's like practicing dancing. But when you dance at prom or wedding you are still nervous if you are historically bad at dancing.
Perhaps one could wear the Vision Pros while delivering the public speech to imagine you are alone or in front of your stuffed animals or at the beach or on a farm or wherever your happy place is. LOL

I did not believe Apple would use it for this. Take Facetime: yes you see the others in a “cool” way but they won’t see you or only your eyes. And if everybody would use the glasses, nobody would see anybody else.

Also, in all the scenes of the video, users were isolated or alone. Is that really the future Apple sees? This would be even more isolating than the mobile phones.

If the tech is crisp, this would be the product Microsoft wanted to push years back for designers, scientists etc. Immerse customers in a new building, try out new cockpit designs or other simulators, follow people’s work remotely and advice. But as an everyday device?

Undeniable.

Don’t make me think of it. It might sound like a joke, but the Amish do have a point in studying the effects of a given technology before accepting it.

Hey, I *own* a pair of VR goggles, to view the panoramas I photograph. And these “Apple Vision” goggles may have some technology I developed that got sold to Apple.

But they still look dorky. No lie.
They're definitely dorky and I wouldn't be caught anywhere but on a train or airplane with them on...but no less dorky than being a photographer.

I expected an accessory on par with a display to connect your computer to, not a whole computer.
People wanting to do video editing will complain at the M2 lack of power, or lack of video editing software, while other will resent the need to connect to their Mac. I would have been happy with a device that just connects to your Mac or iPad through hdmi, thunderbolt or airplay, not a Half-assed computer that just reads emails or surf the web.

Wait, now you can go to the loo with your headset on, and feel like doing poo-poo in a forest like a squirrel, Rick Sanchez style, THAT is a revolution.
More seriously, 'spatial audio'; the words 'dolby atmos' were never used, bummer, maybe next time.

I hope I'm wrong, but I'm afraid only porn and kitties will decide wether this product is a success or not.

Waiting for cad apps taking advantage of 3D vision and gesture, Tony Stark style.
