Why would they put the best screen tech in the Air and use an inferior display (Mini LED) in the top end iPad? That’s like putting the M1 chip in the Air and giving the Pro an A14. Makes no sense at all.

lol Apple has rumbled the 12.9” 2021 buyers. seems like Mini LED is just a temporary solution until they can put OLED in.

I love my 11” iPad Pro but soon as there is an OLED Pro I’m upgrading.

Bottom line, oled is for casual users, mini-led for prof users and productivity
No prof user will work in dark room ,in non proper light up environment
That's not what that review says, what I understood from it is that OLED is better but Samsung as no anti reflective coating and that ruins it.

would OLED not have this "blooming" issue that is being reported with the new ipad pros or would that happen regardless..I have NOT purchased the ipad pro yet was waiting til WWDC but now, who knows

Do you really think miniLED provides higher contrast ratio and deeper blacks than OLED? You’ve got to be kidding.
Not only that, the brightness on OLED in not that bad , I think Apple is strugling to find a good quality OLED screen for their ipads , thats why mini-led solution. had for a week mini-led ipad pro and the best thing of the year for me, returned.

why did they give us mini LED this year...
Simple, brighter, no banding like OLED, better color uniformity than OLED, much better shadow detail than OLED. The only thing that OLED has going is absolute blacklevel, which matters little unless you sit in a blacked out room. Doubt it? Go ahead, grab some NIST certified equipment and measure it, then come back and report. OLED versions will be for smaller models, probably better when people read ebooks in their beds.

Alright so 11” Pro exclusive for the OLED. 12.9” can keep the mini LED, then the following year have OLED on both. I swear, if they do what they did this year with the 12.9” and exclude the 11”, I’m never buying an iPad again. I will NEVER like nor will I ever opt or settle for the larger devices.

Mini LED will be for the pros to avoid burn in (who have more static images on the screen for longer).

OLED for the rest.

MicroLED > OLED > Mini-LED

I'm just waiting for that 11" OLED IPP... why is it always left out of these rumors

IMO, OLED on an iPad Pro is unlikely as it stands. More likely mini-LED will be extended to an 11” model. Mini-LED has just been rumoured to be used on a new MacBook Pro, so Apple seem to be willing to put it across their Pro line.

There is no blooming with OLED as the relevant pixels are totally off (no backlight). Hence the OLED true blacks, as black as when the screen is off.

What a rip, apple tricked everyone into getting the sham mini-LED technology, then flips the table with OLED.

smh

OLED is pretty bad for monitors and stuff with static displays. You will end up with burn in on icons etc.

It’s great for TVs in motion etc - though they have to be clever with things like logos And Straplines in sports.

MicroLED is what we want. Per pixel Light emitting but no organic stuff as it’s soild state and super bright. Current;y only use in the Samsung wall TVs/monitors and high end VFX stuff like they use for the Mandalorian.

So maybe I should just wait til next yr before I trade in my 2018 ipad pro to get the new one..I dont want blooming, the more I see it the more weird it looks, maybe in person its different but not sure why they just didnt go OLED this yr would have saved apple the hassle

This does not make sense, I think Apple made special effort to release a customised Mini-LED does not make sense their next step is regular OLED. Why not go that route in the first place?

So what was the issue in not giving us OLED this year?

These device designs are in the making for 2-3 years before manufacture, they had plenty of time to release an OLED

why did they give us mini LED this year... might just send the iPad back and wait now

OLED is not all that for monitor based stuff… great if you are watching movies All the time. But seriously, it a burn in nightmare for UI elements. That battery and WiFi icon will be there for ever!

If the burn in of modern OLED screens was so bad, people would be complaining about their iPhones since X came around. If you have an iPhone with an OLED screen, flip it into landscape mode and try to find any traces of the battery and WiFi icon.

They are not saying that mini-LED will be abandoned altogether. I think OLED is meant for not-Pro devices, such as an iPad Air and possibly an iPad mini?

I've pretty much resigned myself to holding off on updating my laptop and iPad until they have OLED (maybe mini-led with the laptop because that could be a very long time if ever I guess).

But to be honest, the big win of OLED for me seems to be that I have less eye strain with it, and because of that I'd jump at an OLED iMac. I know thats not likely to happen, but considering my work flow and hours spent behind the iMac I wish it would.
I wouldn’t. I spend a lot of my work day with the same windows open and I’d be constantly paranoid about burn-in. As unlikely as it is and with Apple 100% not covering it (certainly not beyond year 1) I’d still be worrying about it all the time. With mini LED, I wouldn’t have to worry about it at all.

At first the blooming bothered me because everyone was talking about it and I tested it in these unrealistic working conditions that they mentioned (black screen, brightness way too high, pitch black room) and sure enough, I saw blooming. Then I realized that nobody works in those conditions. So I tested it under more realistic, normal conditions and guess what: it’s a non problem.

that "deeper blacks" is missleading....mini-led still have backlit...while oled doesnt lit the pixels on black
so Oled has 0 black level
the rest is spot on, you can add that oled will always have blue pixels fade away faster
Are you sure about that? I’m pretty sure with mini LED the black pixels do have their backlight off completely. That’s entirely the point of all those zones, isn’t it?

I thought I may never buy MacBook or Ipad again and I already bought a dozen. After OLED TV, phones, watches and now laptop there is just no going back...

As I mentioned in the blooming thread, this is expected behaviour, and those who denied it would exist were just fooling themselves.

However, for those who use it as a content creation tool are likely less concerned about this behaviour, because this is not how people normally work.

The concern is for those who use these as content consumption devices, but the thing is, a lot of pros use these as consumption devices too.
