That's a problem for people like me who use that switch for rotation lock.

It might not be the greatest for you, but I thought SBSettings was a godsend back when I had my iPad jailbroken. You have to admit, at least having the option for something similar would be nice.

It was useful back when Bluetooth was hidden deep in Settings for some reason. Nowadays, I never use my iPhone and wish for SBSettings.

The rotation lock thing is a problem that I forgot about. When you double-tap the home button and go to where the rotation lock usually is, is there a silent button? Then again, iPads don't really need to be silenced often.

Uh ? No. Market share numbers are about sales, not "phones that are not in use". Unless you have proof of this.

If someone buys one phone then another and puts the first one in a closet, that's 2 sales for whatever company it is from. I don't have numbers since it's hard to tell, but I'd assume Android phones are switched out more often than iPhones are just by intuition.

When Steve Jobs was there, apple used to bring new trends and dictate terms. People bought what he said was right. Not the other way around. Apple never used to build devices from suggestions made by people.

When Apple lost Steve, so did the power they had over the people...

I have a huge family & circle of smartphone using friends. Only the tech enthusiasts like myself buy new phones frequently. The rest stay put till it breaks, or they feel like a new phone.

Why would you assume that Androids are switched out more often?

I can say that unlike the myth Android haters spread. Android phones last as long as any other phone. Also most people are not impacted by fragmentation. They don't even know what an operating system is, much less the version they have. Nor do they care.

Which is why these reports about apple not being cool anymore and how people think Apple are not innovating anymore are not reflected in reality.

Again, Apple continues to sell multi millions of phones quarterly. The other stuff is just forum fodder. When Apples numbers actually start to decline, that's when Apple will be in trouble.

Unlike what the iPhone haters think, Apple users aren't the only ones who have no clue about tech...the average android users are just as clueless as the average iPhone users. Let's not get into that android users are smarter rubbish....

Apple could choose 4.3" just because it's a good idea (which I don't think it is), not because others are doing it. In this case, we won't know for sure.

And the 7" tablet is far too small. The iPad mini is as small as a tablet can be while being useful, actually a little bit too small IMO.

True... there are tons of talks inside Apple that we on the outside never know about.

However... whenever a product actually launches after something else.... it can appear to be following.

I'm not saying it's good or bad... it's just the public perception.

And I agree... 7" 16x9 tablets are a crime.

But my point was... Eddy Cue at least looked at them in comparison to their own 10" iPad to see if there would be a market for the iPad Mini.

The takeaways were... lighter, thinner and as a result more portable. And at a more accessible price point.

Like I said earlier... Apple doesn't exist in a vacuum. They SHOULD be looking around at what else is out there. And then take the good points and improve on them.

Apple has along way to go to catch up to the mighty S3, which takes a big dump on the iPhone 5.

Nice crippled pull down notifications on iOS. How are those convenient toggles for WiFi, Bluetooth, Silent?...oh yeah...iOS doesn't have them

Truest statement in this whole thread

Also, whenever you're talking about the world market, Apple is always at a disadvantage. And the numbers tend to favor Android because they include phones that are not in use. If you're in the US, you see iPhones everywhere and not so much of anything else.

Oh yeah... that's why I don't think Apple's lack of market share really hurts them overall.

How many of those bazillion Android devices sold in developing countries have NO access to the Google Play store?

How many are used simply as feature phones?

It's certainly an attention-grabbing headline "Android has 75% smartphone market share"

But in reality... many of those phones are not used as smartphones at all... or have never downloaded an app. Or they retail for $100 unlocked.

Apple isn't even playing in that market at the moment...

No reason why Apple can't have multiple device screen sizes for various users

Not that hard really

This. I simply cant understand why people have such a problem with Apple releasing an iPhone with a large screen for those who want one. Just like every new product Apple releases people have their doubts, then it sells like hotcakes. Watch Apple release a larger screen iPhone and watch it cannibilize the 4" iPhone sales.

I was reading your sig.... Pics of the Pacer or you're lying!

Had a Pacer....... green it was. Ugly as sin but could bald the rears if you let it.

On topic, I would love to have an option to buy a 4.8" iPhone.

I don't have a Pacer, nor does my sig claim I do. I just put the word "AMC Pacer" :)
I heard those things are really bad cars.

I've found that in general the arrogance is stronger on Apples side. But now that Steve's gone, the company is well balanced culturally.

That minutia aside, I believe Apple is capable of building a truly fresh new iPhone, so superior to the others, Apple enthusiasts could talk about how great the phone is, instead of regurgitating the same old refrain about sales volume.

I want nothing more than to see Apple grow more, sell a spectacular new iPhone, and refresh iOS's UI. No one can convince me they're not capable.

The only question is will they?

No, just no. No no no no no, NO. Buy an android device, please. Stop making it sound like bigger screens are a necessity. THEY are not. this is simply a matter of taste. If you want a bigger screen, buy a phone with a bigger screen. This does not mean apple has to do the same, and I hope to god they don't.

But that's just it. Apple would rather see you buy an Apple device than switch to Android. If it would increase profits for Apple to entice more customers to switch to or keep the iPhone by making a larger model then they will make one.

Because history shows that when Apple start making too many things and catering to too many peoples wishes, they dont do too well. History also shows that when they focus on a few things, but do it well, even if competitors are making bigger/better/more varied things - they do well.

Either this report, and the cheap iphone reports, are bogus - or apple as an institution has forgotten the 90s.

Android is an open OS that runs on all kinds of phones, including the "cereal box prize" ones. Buy a new suit, get a free Android phone with a contract. It seems like anyone using those cheap ones would get a new one every time the phone company allows it.

Also, Android phones can't be updated that much, or at least they couldn't before. A 3GS can run iOS 6, and if I had an iPhone back then, I would still be using a 3GS or 3G. My first iPhone was an iPhone 4.

For the record ... I own, enjoy, and have plenty of experience with iOS & Android phones.

You'll notice I'm not bashing Apple nor advocating for Android, I'm just having a discussion.

However it's clear that you hate Android & are not here for a discussion.

Multiple models worked for the iPod didn't it?

But when in history has there ever been a mobile phone manufacturer who makes BILLIONS of dollars per quarter... while only having basically three phones on the market?

A fourth phone (and/or bigger phone) wouldn't kill them.

Oh... and Apple has forgotten about the 90s... because it doesn't really apply here.

Back then... Apple was only making computers... but not any money. In short... they were lacking in computer market share AND profit. They were days away from bankruptcy at one point.

Today it's nothing like that.

While the iPhone trails behind Android in smartphone market share... they make more than enough money to be in a strong 2nd place.

Let's not forget a vibrant app ecosystem and accessory market.

And some people actually LIKE Apple products!

I for one can't wait for the 5S - I'm still using the 3GS and it's been working incredibly well, but mid this year, after 4 hard years labour, I'm going to put this little beast to rest....

A bigger screen is welcome! but only slightly wider, I don't want a Galaxy Note! But for the most part I'm looking forward to the A7 chip, a crisper retina display, and a better camera.

I'm impressed Apple has supported the 3GS so far with iOS6, although I think it won't be upgradeable to iOS7 when it comes out.

I think this rumour is fake.

Yes there may be some designs for a larger Iphone and maybe these rumours put two and two together.

Apple wouldn't release another phone just to up the mega pixels that's for sure. Doubt they would come up with a strange name for it either.

As for Iphone mini? What's wrong with an 8GB Iphone 4S?

If Apple does do this it's because they have seen the potential from market studies and have ruled that they will in fact earn more money from it than they would lose in the costs involved in building a new model and having unsold inventory.

But I still don't think they would do such a thing. Surely unless the apps will scale just as easily? We already have enough screen ratios to worry about. Unless this is a painless thing for developers, I don't think Apple will be stupid enough to hurt its app developers.
