I would love to have a 5.6 inch iphone NOTE. lol :D would be the perfect size but then again I'm 6'9" so my needs are bias

On a side note why do they cripple every phone?! C'mon no SDXC!

I don't have any experience with Android. However, I've read that Sony are quite good with opening the boot loader for their skins of the OS. But, they tend to be a bit slow with keeping up to date with the latest Android version.

I certainly like the waterproof and dustproof feature. Would work well for my field work

----------

Pleas do it. The best way for people to appreciate what they have is to give them a try of something worse. If anything I learn about Sony is they make heavily compromised products for no reason. Earlier previewers have already complained about the crappy display and the small battery for a 5 inch HD phone.

The Xperia Z hardly appears heavily compromised at first look. Honestly, I'm not too fussed about the viewing angles for a phone, I'm certainly not going to be looking at it from a high angle. Nor do others ever really look on as I use a phone - so that is not really personally applicable.

The battery life is still out for a final verdict. Obviously, I'll reserve judgement on that pending the official reviews and thorough user tests (the iPhone 5 has just OK battery, IMO. It gets me by but I don't write home about it).

Be sure to dump AAPL before the teens decide that Apple isn't cool anymore....

the negativity is likely priced in the stock. market value for companies like Apple are heavily weighted on future expectations. but really, who cares about the stock, it has nothing to do with the article

Somebody answer this: Who came up with the term "phablet"?? Seriously where did this come from?

Obviously not a developer.

It is hard with iOS cause it was poorly designed. It was made for one resolution. That is the reason why any changes means hard work.

With Android, Mac OS X, Windows, apps can work with any screen resolution.

A scientific calculator made of aluminum and glass and costs $150.

Sadly, you'd still be getting more for your money with that device than with the Texas Instruments calculators that sell for the same price

----------

Obviously not a developer.

People have been developing applications for PCs and macs for a long time, and those are far more "fragmented" than the iOS platform will ever be. It may be more work to work with multiple resolutions, but you know what... that's just life. Occasionally you've got to work with something new.

steve jobs should be screaming from his grave "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

The original iPhone 5 prototype is 4.8 inches and was SJ's idea. Yes the GS3 is a stolen phone that Sammy used insider knowledge as a supplier to create the GS3 that we know of today.

The GS2 was 4.3 inches not 4.8 inch. This was Apple's answer to that phone. The iPhone 5 we have today out right now is Tim Cooks idea.

Source? (pics or it didn't happen ;) )

iPhone 5 Prototype
- The bigger screen is real, the iPhone 5 prototype sports a 4-inch screen (the same size as Samsung Galaxy S screen). This is also the reason that Steve Jobs didn’t want to release the device sooner, he didn’t want to fragment iPhone’s line with different screen sizes.

- Aluminum back cover like on iPad 2.

- Apple can use liquid metal to make iPhone with more colors. Moreover, the color won’t be damaged even after scratching.

- The Home button is not a physical button, however, we can still touch and hold it to restart the device.

- Slimmer look like we expected.

- The battery is very bad.

- Its performance is much better than the iPhone 4S, it could be the first iPhone powered by Apple quad-core A6 processor.

- a 10MP primary camera.

- Siri is renamed to Assistant.

"The iPhone Math" ??

Where does Apple come up with these names.

I just hope they know they've just thrown the entire line of iPhone marketing off-balence.

People that say they can't use a large phone with one hand are the people that txt and drive.

I thought people in China would have smaller hands... I thoght that was a better exceuse.

schiller also bought an s2

same internals, larger battery, ipad style productivity. the phapplet is a go, the ipad mini was a market test.

i see no wrong in a little diversity. and i am certain apple is still investigating every size of handhelds in their labs, be it phones or pads. now that jony gets to design both software and hardware i'm sure we'll see some rather beautiful results.

I'm a bit late for rants, but yeah I really hope this is false. Why would Apple want to follow Samsung? Anything larger than the iPhone 5 is ridiculous. People who want ridiculously large phones can just go buy the Samsungs.

(Funny how people around 10 years back want smaller phones, but now they want bigger phones)

Thanks, that should make this rumor plausible at least. How about your other statement that I quoted?:

the GS3 is a stolen phone that Sammy used insider knowledge as a supplier to create the GS3 that we know of today

Source that they stole it using insider knowledge? From what I read from your post above, the hardware doesn't seem to be the same, besides the size. But maybe you mean that Samsung would have never gotten the idea of releasing a 4.8" phone if it hadn't been that they trough spies knew that Apple might release one. This even though they already had the 4.3" S2 and had made the models larger and larger before?

Hey... Samsung "piggy-backed" on Apple's phone sizes for a while, close to anyway,,,, now its Apple's turn to take the plunge.

Then again all of this could just be a Love story .. :) They were in court after all..

I wonder how it will end.

If someone buys one phone then another and puts the first one in a closet, that's 2 sales for whatever company it is from. I don't have numbers since it's hard to tell, but I'd assume Android phones are switched out more often than iPhones are just by intuition.

In the same quarter they are bought in ? Ridiculous assertion, unless you can provide sources.

Market share operates on quarterly sales. You're talking installed base.

----------

How many of those bazillion Android devices sold in developing countries have NO access to the Google Play store?

How many are used simply as feature phones?

It's certainly an attention-grabbing headline "Android has 75% smartphone market share"

But in reality... many of those phones are not used as smartphones at all... or have never downloaded an app. Or they retail for $100 unlocked.

Phones that do not use Google Services are not counted as Android sales in market share. Google reports activations only for devices that use its services.

I think its time to realize that 3.5 inch iphone or even 4 inch is not going to cut it. Competition is winning using a sole method- larger screens, so Apple has to address it or lose its share.

And losing its share is not good, even if you have larger share of profits. PC wars made Apple learn its lesson.

Therefore, Apple has to introduce larger iPhones. If we want to have Apple as prosperous as ever, the only way is to go bigger screens. At the same time, Apple also has to introduce budget solutions for iPhone users (not necessarily small sized, btw). Think of ipod classic+iPod touch+shuffle+nano. Until the Apple iphone doesn't have those missing three parts or luxury one, budget one and cheap one - its ecosystem is not full. One should forget of pride that never exists in business - you do what consumers want, not other way around.

BTW, I love the rendering of larger iPhones. They look fresh and nice. Coupled with new iOS7, the big iPhone will be unbeatable monster!

I'm really hoping the rumors are true! I feel like it could really be true with the way Apple has been going against their norm (ie: Moving away from the typical 3.5" to a 4", iPad Mini, and letting go of Scott Forstall) all things people claimed would never happen since "Steve Jobs wouldn't of wanted that". I'm not sure if it's going to be released along side of the iPhone 5s but I do feel like that can be something to look forward to in the near future.

Because copying Samesung and going with a bigger screen = innovation?

How about overhauling iOS and focusing on innovation with software?

I never said that, not everything Apple does has to be "magic & innovation".

A lot of things they've done have been old hat for competitors, but who cares? In the end their customers still get useful features that benefit them. Do I also want iOS to be different? Yes, but I also would want a bigger screen.

You guess incorrectly. I just prefer a narrower phone that has the minimum profile in a pair of normal jeans. S3 is too big for my tastes.

The Galaxy S3 is less than 1cm taller, less than 1cm wider and only around 1mm thicker than an iPhone, your blowing this way out of proportion.

Wait so if they release a 4'8 phone called math.. Will iphone 5S be a cheaper option? Will, this bigger phone have all the best features?

A bigger screen is needed otherwise I would get the S4
