So the price range would be $1,500 - $3,000 - $5,000?

Good old Small-Medium-Large marketing strategy. When given the choice of 3, many* choose medium. If that works here, Apple enjoys $1500 more in revenue.

*excluding Apple fans of course, who will sell vital organs to get max pro deluxe mach III ultra, and hopefully be among the first to do so.

Its nonsense though. Its the same like saying mac mini is poor quality product next to mac studio
Is this an English lesson? The quality of the display panel is of lesser quality than that of the XDR. Doesn't mean it's not well-made, but when we're discussing display quality, we seldom mean that. If this still doesn't make sense to you, please spare me.

I wonder if different people do different types of work that necessitate different amounts of screen real estate...Nah, everyone probably all does the same stuff you do.
Well they were replying to someone who said it is impossible to get work done on a 27 inch so that person you're defending clearly had the same thought process.

Guys I just put a Hyundai next to a Lamborghini and I can't understand why anyone would buy a Hyundai!

That's how ridiculous the people saying put the Studio Display next to the XDR for a comparison sound.

Well this is likely going to cost 3000-3500 so it doesn't seem to be an issue when the SD is 1799 and the Pro XDR is 4999. Perfectly in the middle really.
Naaaa. Mini-LED doesn't cost that much. It's becoming mainstream for example a LG 55" 4K QNED TV goes for $1200. There were a couple of 4K Mini-LED displays that were $1700 (4K 32"). If Apple charges too much they will be laughed at. I wouldn't be surprised if its only $1999 USD.

That why god invented LG, Samsung, Ben-Q, Asus, ViewSonic, etc.

Simply buy a display that meets your needs from them. Easy.

Other people require a better display with better image quality. Apple fills that need.
I was not talking about LG, Samsung, Ben-Q, Asus, ViewSonic, etc. Those are entirely different corporations. I was talking about Apple.

I know they are different companies. And that was my point.

An Apple Studio Display isn't for everyone, nor was it designed to be for everyone. It's for people evolved in some kind of creative endeavor where superb image quality is paramount.

Thus, everyone else can find happiness with a much less expensive display from the companies I mentioned.

They also need to incorporate an M2 processor, camera, speakers, and a variety of ports in that display. Then I'll buy it.

You forgot about the .m2-port. That would bring more flexibility as good old the 27" Intel iMacs.

2 DIFFERENT products at DIFFERENT price brackets!

Its not an english lesson but its clearly a comprehension lesson :-D

Your eyesight is definitely bad. If you compare side by side in-store it’s crazy how different both monitors are.
The XDR is way brighter, the dimming zones and colour accuracy.
And MiniLED is another story. Should be even brighter than the XDR in theory and even more dimming zones. (I love my MBP14 display)
I don’t think this new one will replace the XDR though
Huh, interesting. Guess I have my bad eyesight to thank for saving me $4k then!

Wait, how does Young know this display isn't just the 27 inch iMac? Wasn't that why they predicted the 27" iMac was coming this last spring-- Because they conflated it with the studio display?

Thats specifically for pairing it with the Mac Studio, as it lacks Spatial Audio speakers like the 24" iMac, and M2 MacBook Air, and 14"/16" MBP. Then the ARM is for allowing it to offer FaceTime with Centerstage that is for iPhones and iPads already. So dependent on whats you're using you might not any of that in a Mac Display except a camera and speakers aside the TB3/4 connectivity.

fingers crossed for 120hz. I can't go back to 60 after 144 4k. I also don't like scaling 4k so this monitor can't come soon enough

I mean you’re kind of right. The Studio Display is a Hyundai, except it’s priced like an Aston Martin.

Since Windows does not care about Retina, it is unlikely we will ever see a High DPI panel from Dell again (ala the UltraSharp 5K).
Never say never, it's not like Windows doesn't support 200% scaling. They make an 8K 32" model which is well above HiDPI too.

The panel selection and connections have been a big limiter especially with the push to higher refresh rates. It'll likely come in time as bigger numbers sell, but in how much time who knows.

Yes I agree that 27" vs 30" is definitely not the difference of getting work done or not. If a 27" screen isn't sufficient then I'd say one needs a dual-screen or an ultrawide at that point; not 3" more diagonally.

At this price point it’s not really too much to expect:
1) multiple inputs, even if the primary “Mac” input is TB and a secondary one is DP/MiniDP/HDMI or even USB-C
2) The ability to daisy chain two when using TB.
