Wait, how does Young know this display isn't just the 27 inch iMac? Wasn't that why they predicted the 27" iMac was coming this last spring-- Because they conflated it with the studio display?
Because the 27” iMac and the iMac Pro are dead.

27” iMac Studio is what your thinking of.

Well this is likely going to cost 3000-3500 so it doesn't seem to be an issue when the SD is 1799 and the Pro XDR is 4999. Perfectly in the middle really.
That's my guess as well. I can see this going for $3,000 - $3,500 and nicely filling the gap between then Studio Display and Pro XDR. Although no doubt they'll have to update the Pro XDR soon since the new Studio Display Pro would pretty much destroy it in everything other than size.

Two 27" Thunderbolt Displays does it for me. There is no better monitor for dollar. Even new I think they were $999 and today they can be found for less than $400 very easily. Only issue they have is the cable failing, but they are fairly easy to replace, however it is completely unnecessary because you connect a Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable to the Thunderbolt port on the back of the Display. The only issue I have with it is the ethernet ports on both have stopped working.

I get a lot of my work (actually all of it) done on my 16 inch MacBook Pro screen. Not sure why one should need a 30 inch display to “get work done” tbh.
Not sure why you should need 16-inch MacBook Pro to "get work done tbh.? Your job might just need an 11.6” Chromebook to “get work done" tbh. like data entry job? Why are you getting an MBP 16? Such a waste tbh.

You don't need a large screen if you are not a professional that needs one. If you only have enough money to get your 16-inch MacBook Pro and have no money left for a large screen, that's understandable. It's funny that some people can't afford more than an MBP and, being sour grapes expect all jobs to be done well and efficiently with a tiny screen.

I would like to hope a thunderbolt 4 hub so you can connect thunderbolt 3 items on the monitors back. Also twice amount of ports say like 2x thunderbolt and 6 usb c

This is one of the strangest comments I've read in a while.

I have absolutely no idea why you would assume that money is the issue when people prefer to use their laptop screens instead of external monitors. Ever heard of people traveling around for work for example? Would you bring an extern monitor all the time? Also, if money was a problem, someone could also get a 13 inch Pro + external monitor for pretty much the same amount?
I really don't get your argument here.

I was mentioning my Pro because of the screen size here. But if you must know: no, a Chromebook doesn't have have enough power for what I do. And that's actually what my comment was all about. The person I was replaying to was saying that you at least need 30 inch screen to get work done, but it all depends on what you do and what you prefer to use.

You said “only issue” to two separate issues… 😂

I do love the Thunderbolt Display though.

Work is of different types. There are applications with too many panels and some kinds of work typically require multiple such apps. So not for everyone, but yes, some do require a larger screen with more pixels so a lot fits within the same view. For them, the productivity is so much better.

That why god invented LG, Samsung, Ben-Q, Asus, ViewSonic, etc.

Simply buy a display that meets your needs from them. Easy.

Other people require a better display with better image quality. Apple fills that need.
That’ll be Eizo

27 is way too small to get work done, try having 2 windows side to side with a descent sized font, it should be 30 at the very least. 32 would be best. That said, you can get a Cinema display 30 for less money and better quality.
That’s because you’re supposed to buy 2 and Apple knows that.

27" mini-LED monitor at something like $2500 will be very hard to justify. ASD is quite hard to justify too.

However I have two of them because I'm in front of the things 4-6 hours a day. And if I'm using something that much, it may as well be really GD nice. And for me the ONLY issue with the ASD is the $$$ because it's a joy to use. It's one of those things that if the specs fit you and you can stomach the money, it works perfectly. If not, it's a joke - not on the same level as a $1K stand for the XDR - but kind of the same.

Was about to pull the trigger on a third one but now I'll wait a few weeks. Chances are I'll still end up with another ASD but I want to see this new one first. Would have to really blow me away to justify anything close to $1K over the ASD.

I'm still skeptical about this rumour, because this would be such an odd product in their lineup given Apple already offers a 5K 27inch monitor. Also there are some technical oddities: a 5K 120hz (promotion) display will need a compressed signal otherwise no existing Mac (thunderbolt 3 or 4) can feed this new display. While DSC is fine for movies & games, that's not Apple target audience and I don't believe Apple will resort to DSC. A much more sensible theory would be that this display is actually a new high-end 27inch iMac, but we have no other rumours pointing towards a new iMac Pro. So maybe this display will launch alongside a new Mac Pro (or Mac Studio Pro) which could feature a long awaited Displayport 2.0 connection and be able to feed this display. Of course there's always the possibility there's a fundamental inaccuracy in this rumour which would render any speculation meaningless.

Just watch it be 16:9 again…

It was test of the customers, to see how willing people would be to buy a years-outdated product that they then further gimped by slapping a logo on it. Judging by the below responses, it worked.

No, speaking as a creative professional who has worked in a lot of studios, it is not a good choice for that at all.

It is a subpar monitor with countless better options. Apple has made excellent displays; the current MacBooks and iPads Pro are a great example, as are the Cinema Displays of the past. This is a parody of that.
Countless better options?

I’ve spent many hours trying to find monitors with 200+ dpi 5K+ resolution and 500+ nits. Can’t find any. Where are they? Genuine question.
