It was seriously just a money grab on Apple's part. But Apple also has a stigma issue going on too, if they sell anything below 1,000 dollars, its probably not considered good. The honest truth is, for Apple, its probably worth 799 max. But they can't sell it at that.
yep, they wanted everyone to try and buy them until they actually release something good. then even more will buy them/replace the crappy studio

The issue Apple bakes in a ton of things you don't need. Why is there no option for a display without a iPhone 11 CPU, 64 gb storage, webcam and speakers built in?

If Apple could just release a monitor with a couple physical buttons, removable cord, no webcam, no speakers, no iOS chip, no internal storage it would fly off the shelves because not only would Apple users buy it but then Windows and Linux users would as well.

Instead Apple does what Apple does and bakes everything in so that the OS has to control the monitor and it has things you don't need so they are upselling you everything. Apple's own marketing shows 3 monitors. Why on earth would someone need to buy 3 webcams, 3 sets of speakers and 3 A13 Bionic chips, 3 sets of 64gb storage? Just complete waste to spend close to 5 grand for three 27" displays. $3K would be reasonable.

This is why I want one 32 inch instead of two 27s or 32s. It really doesn’t make sense to have that many sets of unused tech.

but gotta hand it over to Apple, there is no other OEM that design and builds better than them. This aluminum finish is just sexy af

and for those still comparing 4K with 5k, you clearly have not seen a glossy 5k display. Once you see it you can’t go back to 4K matte.

as much as I want a 32 inch mini led 120hz apple display, my professional work isn’t generating enough to justify a pro xdr price.

$5,999 / $1,599 = 3.75X the cost. Seems like a factor.
Obviously. However paying 1,599(plus extra for the stand, should you want it) for a poor quality monitor makes paying 6k for an amazing monitor all the more reasonable. Let's put it this way — I didn't consider spending 7k(matte cover) on a monitor, until apple released the studio display. Once I saw it, I guess the cost of the XDR started to make more sense to me.

Exactly why I buy Dell UltraSharp, built in KVM, 3 year warranty, matte and height adjustable stand standard.

Hopefully they can make their own model with the same panel. Also hoping this is made using IPS Black technology as that will greatly improve black levels/reduce blooming.

Since Windows does not care about Retina, it is unlikely we will ever see a High DPI panel from Dell again (ala the UltraSharp 5K).

Its just a shame they are so dang expensive. I'm typing this on my Thunderbolt Display and it was $999 in Canada. Those were the days!
Yeah, totally. I guess we must pay “the Apple tax”.

If the Studio Display was just 900 to 999€ I would consider purchasing it. At 1.800€ there’s no way I can justify buying it. And the miniLED will probably be even more expensive, circa 3.000€.

Do Apple displays have blue light filters? Many other display makers focus on a comfortable viewing experience instead just brightness and eye popping colors. How much effort does Apple put into that? I don't find any of their displays comfortable.

hahahahahhahahahhahhahha

sorry, please go on with your opposite of Apple's entire business model, I'm sure you're right that this is the way. It has been great for Dell after all.

Apple focuses on color reproduction and brightness.
Samsung focuses on eye popping colors.

Night Shift is good enough IMO

I CAN'T WAIT. 😮‍💨

I don't understand why the whole display industry is behind on PPI while Apple is the only one ahead of it.
the highest display 27 PPI I could find today is 166PPI while 32 is barely 140PPI meanwhile Apple is rocking 27 with 32inch with 218 PPI

I think the studio display was supposed to be a monitor for apple masses. Totally missed the mark imho.

No, it's a monitor for people who own a Mac Studio and are fussy about image quality; ie people who are involved in some kind of creative activity, such as photography/videography editing.

It's not for gaming, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.

So you are comparing two products when one is almost 4x more expensive?

Wow, what an argumeng - keep going, i'll get ready for more fun

When compared to the XDR that is exactly what it is. We don't have to agree, btw.

i shouldn't get this mad about it,but i think about it everyday ,and i keep postponing my monitor purchase, hoping the market will get better someday. maybe in 15 years lol
I actually broke down and got the Samsung M8. That piece of trash went back.

Just watch it be 16:9 again…

I still think anyone who bought one of these were stupid. Compare the XDR next to it in-store and can see how bad it is.

It was test of the customers, to see how willing people would be to buy a years-outdated product that they then further gimped by slapping a logo on it. Judging by the below responses, it worked.
Absolutely laughable you'd call the Studio Display a poor quality monitor.

No, speaking as a creative professional who has worked in a lot of studios, it is not a good choice for that at all.

It is a subpar monitor with countless better options. Apple has made excellent displays; the current MacBooks and iPads Pro are a great example, as are the Cinema Displays of the past. This is a parody of that.
