And people wonder why iPhones cost so much? All the R&D costs to engineer a fix for a "problem" that doesn't exist! Does the notch or pinhole really bother people that much? I still use my 7 Plus with (god forbid) A BEZEL, and I never even notice it!

How about just reducing the price of the phones so people won't hold on to their phones for 4+ years because iPhones cost >$1000!

Give us top-tier cameras, OLED displays and cut the price!

I agree, we should keep using 5 kilos laptops as everyone was very happy back in the 80s

640K RAM, that was perfect!! they just added more RAM to charge us more!

innovation kills me

I just want to see some leaks saying that the 2020/2021 iPhone's will have more ram! 3gb in the 7 Plus I currently use, isn't enough. I only had the XS Max for a week, but I doubt the extra gig would have made much of a difference. 6gb would be very very nice!

Finally a proper company with proper "All Screen" tech! No compromises or "not really an all screen" phones from low end cheap Chinese companies which are pretty much worthless! This phone has my vote, my wallet is ready I was waiting for a real tech company to do this and looks like Apple is going to do it proper with real tech advancements. I will buy. I will buy on release day. I honestly thought Samsung would be the first one to do a 'real' all screen phones with all their tech and the best displays in the world. I am pleasantly surprised. Go go apple!

Touch ID on my iPhone 8 doesn't work for me if I've washed my hands within the last 3 minutes. Given I'm a germaphobe who washes his hands at least 20 times a day, that's an inconvenience.

Strange. I’m the same way and it always works for me. With either thumb. Try making making four TouchID prints. One of each thumb. One washed and one “dirty.” Then it should have no trouble registering every time.

And Apple says they wanna make it simple ? This is anything BUT. You can start off with a few products, with same set of features, but you'll never stay that way

I must be one of those 'few people'. :p Didn't matter whether I was using the 5s or the 6s Plus - damn thing worked maybe 75% of the time (which isn't horrible, but for the way they touted it, it wasn't a good enough hit rate IMO). I know my example is anecdotal and YMMV of course.
The 7/8 series was a bit better, but it didn’t work all the time for me either. Face ID is more reliable, just more limited in use (e.g. angles, waking up, etc)

Within 5 minutes of using my X in 2017, I didn’t notice the notch. I welcome redesigns and was glad to have a phone with no top and bottom bezel like the previous iPhones. Even with my XS Max, the bitch still do not bother me and I once again, hardly notice it.

I'm gonna repeat this in every iPhone thread ever but gimme a new iPhone SE. I need dat tiny phone in my life.

This rumor makes it much more likely that there will be an new SE-sized phone. You want as small a notch as possible for that size display.

We all have our preferences and opinions but that's not the problem. When people can only see the pros or one technology and the cons of another, they are adding nothing to the conversation except noise to be heard.
The conversation was never about anything other than choosing one or the other from the main article itself. I then commented which I would prefer. I would obviously like both rather than not.

Pin ID > Touch ID > Face ID > Retina ID?
Considering that the retina is as unique as a fingerprint, perhaps Apple could switch from an entire face scan to just the retina. Perhaps that will enable the tech to be smaller and notch to become slimmer?

why would you call that a notch? it's not a notch, by definition.

abolition of face id would be a godsend, but probably not in the cards. we'll continue to be denied the superior functionality of touch id just for the sake of Apple's pursuit of new tech at the expense of UX.

Face ID isn’t going anywhere. The notch? Sure, maybe sometime in the future. I thinks there is a lot of misinterpreting of the information going out from these “sources”. We’d be losing more feature than just unlocking our phones if they removed Face ID.

Attention awareness features
AR on the selfie camera
Bokeh on the selfie camera
Animoji and Memoji
The new eye contact fix for FaceTime on iOS13
More secure

And probably more I’m not remembering.

The biggest of course, the absolute convenience of unlocking your device by just looking at.

All this just to remove the notch? I really don’t think Apple cares as much about the notch as some people believe to make these sacrifices.

Edit: Forgot to mention. Apple could release a phone with both

When Face ID, the notch and the phablet sizes are gone I can happily upgrade my 6S.

The size difference between the 6S you are using and the current iPhone XS "phablet" is .21" in length and .25" in width... It will take your brain less than a day to get used to that, if you even notice it..... Notch will go away eventually....But again I've seen people who hated the notch and after using the new phones for a little bit it doesn't bother them at all, you get used to it.... And face ID is personal preference I guess, I love it and prefer it over touch ID, perhaps you should try it for a while and give it a chance.

Unfortunately my March 2017 SE is starting to show it's age, mainly in the battery department. I know I can get a new battery for $50 (or less for a DIY kit) but I'm kinda lusting over the camera in my wife's XR and I might buckle and get whatever is smallest from this year's refresh.

Hopefully I don't regret it come September 2020.
