I agree! This is why I'm still stuck with my Huawei P10 and iPhone 7... Can't wait for a notch-less iPhone!I will never buy a phone with a notch. Very happy to hear that Apple will abandon this eyesore.

Just like programming, a piece of “working” code and “beautifully written” code are different, and latter needs polishing.
What android manufacturers do are releasing a product with working features. What Apple (usually) do is introducing a feature that works great over other competitors. Apple polishes feature to better suits iOS and hardware need. Hence my point.
This year seems like the biggest wash year since the beginning of iphones. The more I read these iPhone rumours, the more depressed I get. I have an iPhone 6s Plus and despite replacing the battery in early 2018 I've felt for a while that 2019 would be the year to update. I don't intend to get a new phone very often (that's why I'm still using the 6s Plus) however the rumoured updates this year, if true, seem very disappointing. Seems unlikely that I'd do it, but I'm starting to wonder if I should try and hold out for another year!?

Its a year apple coasts on previous design with super small tweaks. Less things they have to do for R&D the better to them even if sales arent that great. They try to get most people on the X design over the last 3-4 years then when they release a full screen phone with no notch all those people will upgrade to get that model. $$$. Thats the only compelling thing to win over a lot of people.Agreed. I cannot remember rumors of the upcoming generation being so outshined by the rumors of the generation after that. Feels like Apple might as well skip this year.
I feel sorry that I am “attacking Xiaomi for announcing their under the display camera tech” even though I will attack them nonetheless but for a different reason. As for “giving Apple way too much credit”, I include the word “usually”, as they suck up from time to time. But I think most people will agree that features released by Apple are more polished that Android manufactures, especially the likes of Xiaomi and Oppo.Possibly but still a relevant example of announcing something that very obviously wasn't polished or finished.
And Airpower(which you ignored) was hardware.
Apple also does the same, you give them way to much credit.
FaceID for example was polished further with iOS 12 and 13 but according to your logic it's only bad when Android manufacturers do this.
This is the only reason why you are attacking Xiaomi for announcing their under the display camera tech will be ready for next year.
I cannot wait to get Touch ID back. I really do not like Face ID at all. full screen Touch ID would be a much much better user experience than Face ID.
iPhone 5S/6 or did you own 6S/7/8? Touch Bar MBP/2018 MBA?
I ask because there is a big difference in quality between 1st and 2nd gen Touch ID.
I am talking about the difference between having to wipe down the home button to get it to work indoors and Touch ID always working instantly no matter what.
Touch ID on iPhone 6 wasn’t reliable but Touch ID on 7 Plus and newer is instant and never fails. Same thing with Touch ID on Mac. It always works.
This is a big thread so probably said already. But combining this with the news that Apple would make an under screen Touch ID for the lower cost Chinese market (as also mentioned in this article) seems to indicate that these notchless phones won't be sold in the west anyway, so I wouldn't get too excited if that was the desire.
Nooooo.... FaceID is 100 times better than touchID in my experience.
I really hope they keep both.

Just pick Samsung foldable phone as an example: they release their working product and send units to tech viewers for review. Those foldable phones work, but not very well.
LoL what? Xiaomi said they will release phones with under display cameras next year. So it's not the same with Xiaomi. You building your opinions with false assumptions.Same for Xiaomi’s under the display camera: works, but not very well and needs polishing.
Alright, you win. Case closed.LoL
Well when Xiaomi launched fast charging and wireless charging for example these features were better executed than on iphones. It seems you are prepared to give apple really any credit just for the sake of it.
They didn't release it, they were prepared to release it.

Yeah ... phones are heavy these days. You are getting personal...I did not say that I am not able to use it but I said that it is an "additional step and annoying". Very often my XR is laying flat on the office table and I have to pick it up to unlock it. With TouchID this was not necessary....
According to the law you shouldn’t be unlocking anything while driving.Face ID is hugely flawed. Doesn’t work with some of my sunglasses. Not safe to unlock while driving on mounted dashes. I fully welcome the return of Touch ID as both a second option or something that takes the place of Face ID. (Though I seriously doubt they would give up on Face ID.)
No, I think your first reaction was correct, it's just not a deal killer to drive people to Android. Same deal with the headphone jack.I was against the notch. I thought it was hideous and greatly distracted from the user experience. But the legions of notch-loving fans convinced me otherwise... now, no notch, no sale.
We all have our preferences and opinions but that's not the problem. When people can only see the pros or one technology and the cons of another, they are adding nothing to the conversation except noise to be heard.I would definitely like both, but the article talks about one or the other and I stated which I would prefer.
There hasn't been a single documented instance of someone buying an iPhone with a notch and then returning it because they just couldn't stand the look of the notch. On the other side, most iPhone notch users will tell you that they stopped noticing the notch 5 minutes after they first used the phone. No, I think your first reaction was correct, it's just not a deal killer to drive people to Android. True but the first gen of Touch ID was slow compared to the 2nd gen. The same goes for Face ID. The 3rd gen of Face ID is supposedly even faster and better so it could easily become the the preferred default by most users but I think a future where both co-exist in the same device is fastly approaching anyway.Face ID is hugely flawed. No it wasn’t. True Depth camera is about more than authentication.

Just because you say so it doesn’t make it so. I think I’ll take Craig Federighi’s word over yours.
