I’m having a hard time believing this. Ever since the iPhone X Apple has claimed that they’re 100% invested in Face ID and that Touch ID was dropped like a rock never to be considered again. If they really do end up doing this, they’re gonna have a lot of explaining to do. Face ID would end up having an even shorter life than Touch ID originally had. It would be known as Apple’s awkward, temporary replacement for authentication while they struggled to make an under-screen fingerprint solution, which whenever brought up, they’ve always said they have no interest in. Hmm...

As long as this phone includes no notch, Qualcomm modems, and is not priced ridiculously high, I’ll consider it.

Otherwise, will wait.

Well as long as you can settle for 2 out of 3 you should be fine... If they remove the notch and add Qualcomm modems you can bet that price will be sky high.

While that’s probably true, no way I am paying more than I already have for an iPhone. $800 being the max with AC+, I can wait. Especially dealing with the TV app as craptastic as that is.

What's with all of the Apple rumors for 2020? It's almost like Apple knows 2019 is going to be a massive letdown, and they don't want people to leave their ecosystem.

I feel like this has been happening for the last couple of years... the current year iphone rumors are pretty much leaked and confirmed by June-July and then people move on to the next year's phone. But I do agree that this year its been a bit more ramped up.

Ah, I see what you mean. But if the notch width is shrinking for the other devices in 2020, perhaps the new width would fit a 5.4 inch device (more so than the current notch's width). Look, I hope you're right because I desperately want to buy the 5.4 inch, but if I were a betting man I would bet on the 6.7 inch device getting the full-screen authentication.

I am indifferent between FaceID and TouchID, however Apple is under the mindset that FaceID is more secure. Chances are if TouchID v3 is going to be released it will be a prime candidate for the smaller devices to minimize the bezels. Would one consider Ultrasonic TouchID an evolution or a new feature is hard to say.

True. Though I wonder, right now the middle of the notch is taken up by the speaker. I would think this does not have to be there - current Android "punch-hole" phones move the speaker up into the edge. If this works internally (no idea), they might do the same on an iPhone and thereby make the notch a lot narrower.

Maybe if the other components shrink, however if this was the case I believe Apple would have done so to minimize the notch width. Maybe there needs to be some physical minimal distance between the sensors that rely on each other to make FaceID reliable, I am not sure.

My thinking: I was happy they moved away from touchid. The constantly changing calluses I have on my fingers due to guitar playing made touchID never work for me. Faceid I never had a problem with. It will be sad if they eliminate it completely.

I have no issues with notch and no issues with Face ID. If they’re going to add back Touch ID, then they should keep Face ID.

everyone just relax! they will put face id on the back of the phone. so you do a quick flip to unlock your phone - no harm in that.

Just remove this sucker this year already. It's going to look archaic next to every other flagship that's releasing at the moment. Turning the reliable tick-tock design cycle into a tick-tock-tock is terribly lame.

Never understood how anyone ever saw the notch as a positive, or Face ID as superior to Touch ID for that matter.

A bezel doesn’t jut into the viewing area. The notch does. Comparing apples and oranges.
Notch needs to be removed, or at the very least shrink substantially or eliminated by now.

Android manufactures have managed that. The notch is a compromise but having the same notch for 2 years is lazy on Apples part.

Man. I was skeptical of Face ID but turns out it’s a game changer! It would be nice to have Touch ID at times, but Face ID is way better. Why not have both?

I doubt the notch is holding back iPhone sales. I prefer Face ID to the fingerprint id. Apple needs to work on lowering prices instead of constantly re-inventing the wheel.

Many people believed that Touch ID would return when the technology was available to completely cover the screen. I expect that Apple will have both Touch ID and Face ID when the technology is ready to have Face ID underneath the screen as well. I don’t know if it’s redundant to have both, but I can imagine for AR purposes that they won’t want to get rid of Face ID at all.

All screen, notchless, TouchID. This is probably the best iPhone they’ll ever release. Which is going to be like Android phone now. I would never ever thought a time will come that I wish my iPhone will be like those Android phones. I always think that Android phone users will be forever jealous with us and try to copy iPhone forever. Well I’m wrong!

Are we going backwards? I really hope they don't, I prefer by far to just glance at my phone. It's just much more advance technology, more accurate and more secure. Apple's latest ad literally says 'Face ID even safer than Touch ID' so that makes me guess they wouldn't wanna go back and I hope they don't.

There's no way they get rid of Face ID, how would they sell that to people?

"Hey guys I know we said a few years ago that face ID was much safer than touch ID but now that we've put touch ID all over the screen......Oh look over there a new Memoji everybody!!!"

Why do they have a lot of explaining to do? How does it actually affect you which method of authentication they use? It all does the same thing and since apps currently support both Face and Touch you won’t even have to wait for an update. It will be a seamless switch.
